This was a fast-paced and interesting-enough thriller. No one of the characters was likeable - in fact they were downright greedy, selfserving and callous, which of course made them them interesting. Not sure if this book was intended as a searing indictment of the corporate world of high finance or a thriller in and of itself.. Everything was going great until the final third of the book - which was just so unbelievable as to be farcical. I won't go into the detail but REALLY???? The END just didn't tally with the previous good character constructs and left me feeling a bit miffed, to be honest. I spent a few pleasant hours in the company of this book but overall, as mentioned, the ending was somewhat of a let-down.

The Escape Room is an awesome concept. It is essentially a locked-room mystery using the trendy group activity of escape rooms as the setting. Four wall street finance coworkers do an elevator escape room leading to the revelation of dark secrets. Who sent the four to participate in this "team-building" activity and why? Although not entirely believable, the book remains completely fun and will keep readers guessing. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun summer thriller. This is an excellent beach read!

Just realised that I have ended up with this book on my shelf twice. Here is the review that I have already given.

A good read about revenge. Some parts of it are not believable but it is still a good read. There was enough suspense in it to keep me reading.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

The copy I had (delivered to Kindle) was pretty unreadable with so many letters missing I was playing guess the word rather than reading a novel.

I gave up too early to give a review of the actual book. (This won't be posted anywhere else).

If an updated version with these issues is available I'll be happy to read it - the premise of the story sounds right up my street.

(it won't let me send feedback without a star rating - this rating does not reflect the novel, only the fact that I couldn't read it)

I DEVOURED this book it was a brilliant thriller that speaks to one of my greatest fears – Being stuck in an elevator- even the idea sent a shiver up my spine and Megan Goldin writes with such an atmospheric sense that you feel every moment of it.

Not that I felt much sympathy for those trapped within, as the story unfolds in the lift and with the story of what lead them here you start to feel that perhaps it is a well deserved fate.

This is a tense, emotional story that both keeps you on the edge of your seat whilst making you consider some very thought provoking themes of human nature. All the characters are well rounded, compelling and utterly engaging, set within a story that is completely gripping from the very first page.

A story that reveals itself slowly through the minds and actions of its protagonists, The Escape Room is a refreshing take on the thriller and psychological drama genres and is one of those read in one sitting page turners that stays with you long after you’ve solved all its clues.

Brilliant. Highly Recommended.

The Escape Room is a super tale of wrong-doing, phenomenal greed, ruthlessness, lies, manipulation and revenge, as told from two points of view. One is a group of greedy, selfish investment bankers, lured to an empty building one Friday evening to take part in what they think is a team building exercise. It's shortly before the annual round of redundancies and bonuses so the team is compelled to take part. The other follows former junior colleague Sara Hall, starting several years previously when she gained her dream job until she eventually becomes disillusioned with the firm, suspicious of her colleagues and frightened by the things they are willing to do to maintain their wealthy lifestyles.

The book is well structured and the characters are strong and realistic (although none are sympathetic) but it is necessary to suspend belief with certain aspects of the plot.. I just went with the flow and did not regret it! The book is fun, entertaining, compulsive, and has a more than satisfactory outcome.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC.

I love doing escape rooms myself so was excited by the premise of the book. It certainly delivers on intrigue and mystery with the relationships between the characters gradually unfolding. I could really feel the tension of the characters in the lift and I thought the author described these scenes vividly. I wouldn't say the ending was surprising although it was certainly satisfying!

Interesting book, jumps back and forward and for me only picks up around the mid way mark.

It’s very difficult to review without giving spoilers and I will say that the characters are well drawn and the corporate life is very well described, suited and booted, ambitious characters who give their all to “the firm” all very familiar, all quite sad.

Worth a read, it will not disappoint
