It's time to give up. I've tried to pick up and read this book so many times and I just keep losing interest. I think the writing is pretty good and I love the premise of this series, but I can't seem to connect to the characters in a way that pulls me in. I'm finally giving up on this one, but I hope it finds its readers! 2.5 stars.

Writing is okay and story is interesting.

It's been so long since I read the first book and originally requested this book that by the time I got round to reading this, I had lost interest (which is completely my fault).

I wasn’t able to read this one as I have not been able to download a copy. As I was bot able to read the book, I will still give it a five star review because it was not the author’s fault.

I loved the wold building and the history and an obviously very strong, kickass heroine. I think where it struggles is that a lot of the time I just want to shake Zera and say 'talk to him already!' and I hate when problems could easily be solved by just talking to each other.

Bring Me Their Hearts is one of my favorites of 2018, and I was super excited to dive into its sequel!
If anyone can write sass that I adore and love, and that for sure makes me laugh, it’s Sara Wolf. Find Me Their Bones continues Zera’s story, where much like the first book, her goal continues to be getting her heart back. Only she’s not betraying Prince Lucien any longer; she’s already achieved that, and she’s lost her friends as a result of her actions.

My heart is the entire reason I came to Vetris and betrayed the Prince in the first place.

In exchange for her heart, she’s required to teach the valkerax underneath Vetris how to Weep, even though she’s not sure what could come as a result of doing so. She’s willing to risk it, though, to get her humanity back and live a normal life. She doesn’t want to continue being the monster she’s made out to be, where she has to hide her identity.

Find Me Their Bones feels like a bridge between the first and final book.
I didn’t struggle with Zera’s inner voice reminding her that she’s a monster in the first book, but in the second book, the voice is a bit overwhelming and distracting. This may be a personal preference or mood while reading, so others might not be bothered by this. Zera is constantly belittling herself despite all the selfless things she does, and it starts to be a little repetitive. At times, her snark and humor to make light of things became a little irritating, especially when she is dismissing compliments from others, but I still enjoyed it regardless!

If you’re expecting more development in Zera and Lucien’s romance, that’s not happening in Find Me Their Bones. There are a few moments between the two as try as Zera might in denying her feelings, she’s still living in the palace. She’s still Zera Y’Shenneria, the niece of Lady Y’Shenneria, and she still has to navigate court politics with the other nobles. However, I missed the interactions with the other characters from Bring Me Their Hearts, because the friends she made take a back seat for the majority of the sequel. They still get page time, but not as much as the first, and this might be because they may play a bigger role in the third.

Much of the focus is Zera trying to teach the valkerax how to Weep, and eventually, figuring out what the price could be if she succeeds in teaching. The only thing closest to a friendship she truly gets here is with Yorl, who is also working with the valkerax, and while I loved their interactions, the pacing feels slower due to the focus, and the end comes a little quick.

I’m still excited for the final book.
Despite my issues with the pacing of the book and Zera’s inner voice being a distraction, I still enjoyed Find Me Their Bones! I’m excited about the third novel because I’m curious about how Zera’s story will end and what will happen considering the ending of this one.

Find Me Their Bones was a fantastic second to Sara Wolf's series. It was gripping and unforgettable. I enjoyed every second of reading this.

The second book of the Bring Me Their Hearts trilogy, Find Me Their Bones, picks up where the first book left off. It’s a solid middle book, in that it continues the first part of the story, and sets up the third part. It’s a little slower paced than the first one and didn’t grab my attention quite as thoroughly, but I still found it to be an enjoyable read. Zara finds herself with a whole new set of problems when she fails to meet the conditions set up by the first story. This part of the story is a set of two bad choices for Zara, and it will be interesting in the third book to see how she deals with the fallout of the choice she makes.

I adored this second book in a series just as much as the first one; It was so easy to fall back into the fantasy world that Sara Wolf has built. After a wild ending in the first book, our heroine Zera is given a second chance provided she tame a valkerax.... a terrible monster.

You would think that would be hard enough, but Zera’s internal struggles with her friendships/relationships are actually much harder. She’s so unsure of her place that I was wishing I could throw her some self-confidence through the pages.

The part of the book I found most interesting, though, were the parts that feature her heart. Stored in a bag, beating away. Imagine watching your own bagged up heart being tossed around like a grocery sack- yikes! I am definitely looking forward to the third book coming out this November.

I was completely immersed into book two of this series! Book 1 had me on the edge of my seat so I was more than ready to delve into the second part! The MC has grown up a lot since book 1 and I was pleased with how her character progressed. I hope there is more to come in this world! The author is fantastic and I am now a huge fan!

The irony doesn’t escape me. It rarely does— I chase irony down like an overzealous kitten hunting butterflies.

I have now officially renamed this book "Find me the Angst".
And I did find, right here, in convenient book form.
And I would change nothing about the book, just so you know. This was such a good sequel, equally as fantastic as the first book (no sophmore slump in sight), but in a completely new direction that broke me into pieces and left me hanging wanting the next book in the series desperately. I was kept guessing as to what was happening, completely wrapped up in the drama and action, rooting for a HEA that most likely will not come (but it doesn't stop me from wishing).

“O-Okay!” I hold my hand up. “Okay, you can have that leg! That’s fine. Hated it anyway. Goes great with a side of dungeon dirt, I bet.”

Can we just spend a minute talking about how freaking heart-breaking this book is? And yes, I realize the main character is heartless (literally) and hungers for every ones death (occasionally) but still I felt like I needed to hug Zera and possible cry at least once a chapter. For a girl with no heart, Zera is one of the kindest, most self-sacrificing characters around. Two (of my favorite) things this author does incredibly well is ridiculous, snarky banter from a completely wonderful and super flawed heroine and devastating emotions that hold you hostage as a reader (seriously, read her Lovely Vicious series if you need more proof). When bristly, hostile Yorl gently took Zera's hand to help her walk out of the caves it made my heart melt a little bit (just read the book, it will make sense). And I wish I had little Zera and Lucien dolls that I could just force to kiss and make-up already.

“Here’s a tip from me to you,” I say. “It’s polite to tell someone you’re going to kill them beforehand.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” He holds out another vial. I stare at it in his paw, then at him. He clears his throat . “This is going to kill you.”
“See?” I tease. “Was that so hard?”

This whole book is quoteable, actually everything written by this author quoteable, I struggle narrowing down some I feel I must share. I may be fangirling, I will admit it, but I will read anything the author creates and be ever so happy about it.

"I walk out and stare at the abandoned picnic blanket, disheveled but still beautiful, and I do what any sane undead thrall about to go on trial for their unlife would do.
I pick up the half-empty wine bottle and chug it."

I was highly anticipating this book, and I was excited to get it and be on the tour, but the problem was I found this book to be a little hard to read, whereas the first book was amazing, this one was kept failing to keep my attention and wasn't as great to get into as the first book.

It was hard for me to pick this one up. I loved the first book in this series up until the last couple of chapters when it all went sideways. The characters seem to be slow to pick up what is obvious to the reader and almost willfully misunderstand each other. I find it frustrating when I feel like shouting at characters “Just tell him/her the truth!!!” When I finally picked this one up, there was a lot of damage to be repaired...but it slowly headed in the right direction. I will be looking forward to the next installment.

This was an amazing sequel! I really enjoyed watching Zera grow as a character and seeing the choices she has to deal with. She is such a strong character and having to see the pain she has to go through just to get her heart back Is heartbreaking. But I know she will pull through because she’s amazing like that.

Excited to see where the next one takes us.

Find Me Their Bones was an entertaining sequel to Bring Me Their Hearts.  At first, I was a bit nervous that it wouldn't meet my expectations, but I'm glad to say that It was pretty good. I enjoyed it. I really missed Zera and her snarkiness. Her character is what makes this whole series so much fun to read. And let's not forget the gorgeous cover. The artist did a wonderful job. So far, this was my favorite. It perfectly depicts the story.

The story continues where it was left off in the first book. Zera Y’shennria finally reveals her true identity to Prince Lucien and her plan to steal his heart. She was supposed to kill him, but in the end she couldn't do it. Feeling betrayed, Lucien hates the sight of her. With the sudden appearance of Lucien's lost sister Varia, Zera is pardoned for her treachery, but she had to work for the king who's preparing for the war against the witches. When Zera gets another chance to regain her heart, she wouldn't fail even if it's an impossible task such as  taming the dangerous valkerax trapped in the tunnels underneath the city.

I loved Zera even more in this book. She was guilty about lying to Lucien and her new friends Malachite, and Fione. I was a little angry with the way they ignored her and treated her like a monster. I know what she had done was wrong but still. She feels bad about losing their trust and tries hard to make amends with them especially Lucien. Because of her guilt over breaking his heart, she even tries to set him up with another girl. The  relationship between Zera and Lucien becomes complicated. There's some hate vibes but the attraction is still there. I honestly loved their banters. Lucien was just amazing. He hates Zera for deceiving him, but we can clearly see that he still had feelings for her. The secondary characters added more fun especially Malachite. Can we have a spin-off with him as the lead. I almost forgot about Yorl, the celeon who aspires to become a polymath. Even though he was a bit rude, I still enjoyed the conversations between him and Zera.

Except for a few slow scenes, the plot was engaging throughout. The plot mostly centers around Varia's hidden agenda, and the bloodthirsty valkerax. There're some unexpected twists in the second half which I really loved. The hate-love romance between Zera and Lucien was a bonus. I'm a total sucker for them! The ending was intense, but I did expect something like that to happen. The author writing was addicting. The book was written in Zera's first person pov. The world building and the magic was well done.

Overall, I loved this book! It concludes with a cliffhanger and really liked all the revelations at the end. Can't wait for the third book!

Recommend it?
YES

If you love YA fantasy with morally grey and snarky heroines then you must read this series! I highly recommend it!

This was an excellent sequel! I loved being back in this world and back with these characters. The world that Sara Wolf has created is so unique and I enjoyed seeing the world grow a bit more in this installment.. The action and character development was consistent. These characters are complex and their relationships are so interesting to me. I am eagerly awaiting the next book!

This was a pretty decent sequel, however, it really suffered from middle-book-syndrome. This is probably one of my most disappointing 2019 releases, but I still really liked the story. There were some really solid world building pieces throughout, but there were a lot of random additions that I felt were included because it was needed for the plot. The characters, unfortunately weren’t as compelling as they were in book 1. Because this book is basically filler for the finale, I was bored for a good chunk yet still interested enough to continue on. The dialogue was very cheesy, but still fun, but disappointing overall. I loved book 1, so I hope that the finale isn’t a bust.

WARNING: Spoilers for book 1! I enjoyed this book more than the first one. The angsty romance tugged at my heart, but what really grabbed me was Zera’s growth. Sure, she continued to struggle with trust, and there were times I was frustrated with her backsliding, but she was still in a two steps forward one step back mode, making steady, albeit slow progress. Having accidentally said the name of her witch at the end of the first book, Princess Varia has become Zera’s new witch and has a new goal for her if Zera wants her heart back. A task that seems nearly impossible — she must teach the valkerax below the city to weep, the way she did. A beast so huge, dangerous, and angrily delusional, she can barely understand it, much less teach it anything. But she will do anything to get her heart back, even die over and over again.

Lucien hates her, Fione is terrified of her, and the only people she considers family are in the wind. Zera has no choice but to do Varia’s bidding. She’s singly-focused on her task, but as she so often laments, her unheart betrays her with feelings for Lucien. The thing is, as much as he wants her to believe otherwise, it’s so clear he still has feelings for her, too. There doesn’t seem to be any happy endings for this pair, but finding out what happens to them kept me turning the pages.

Plot
Similar to book one, the plot revolves around Zera completing the necessary task to get her heart back. What’s different this time is who has her heart, the task she’s been ordered to complete, and the reasons behind it. Varia believes if she gets what she wants, she’ll be able to stop the impending war. While similar to her original goals, this one comes with a lot of caveats and new dangers. Numerous subplots are expertly woven throughout, and we learn more about the world that the characters inhabit. Just as vivid as the first book, FIND ME THEIR BONES builds upon what we already know, bringing new scenes to life and divulging new secrets that underpin the world Sara Wolf has crafted.

Characters
I love everyone’s growth in this installment. Zera’s feels the most drastic, but Lucien, Malachite, and even Fione have significant growth as the come to terms with Zera’s heartlessness. Varia on the other hand seems to devolve through the book, becoming less stable and more maniacal as things come to a head at the end. But with all of Sara Wolf’s books, the characters are just as fascinating, developed, and enduring as ever.

What I Loved About FIND ME THEIR BONES
1. Zera. She really grew on me more throughout this book. I liked her in the first book, but by the middle of this one, I LOVED her. She’s determined, loyal, and strong, without ever losing her snarky streak.

2. Valkerax. The giant, white, feathery, scaly wyrm with six eyes won my heart with its overwhelming pain and longing to be free.

3. Lucien. The prince with a heart of gold is just as swoony as ever, but he’s a little extra so this time around.

4.Princess Varia. She’s both an antagonist and a protagonist, in a sense. While it’s Zera’s story, Varia has her own arc and the book wouldn’t be as amazing without her. But her wounds and desires and driving need to prevent war makes her someone to root for.

5. World Building. The author continues to unveil a fantastic fantasy world with rich details and stunning cinematography in written form.

Bottom Line
Teenage angst, a gripping adventure, and phenomenal world building collide with epic results.
