After I finished the cliffhanger of book one (Bring Me Their Hearts, which must be read first) I couldn't wait to see what happened next for Zera. Book two picks up immediately where Hearts left off and dives into non-stop adventure from there. I really love the colorful world the author created for this series - I feel like I could read about its people and customs forever! I also really feel for Zera's struggle with being Heartless and the guilt she carries for what she has done. Even when I understood why she was making certain decisions my heart was screaming for her to make different ones - this book had more angst for me because of that. We were also introduced to a couple of new characters and saw original ones go in directions I wasn't expecting. The ending once again had me so very eager to see what happens next - I need more ASAP.

I voluntarily requested, read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“The hunger echoes in my skull, as it always has, for the three years since I became Heartless. It’s a terrible, dark voice that haunts every Heartless, rushes in and fills the gaps when a witch takes our heart and makes us their immortal thrall. It wants only to kill, to maim, to feast on humans. It thrives on my sadness, my pain, kept at bay and suppressed only by my witch’s magic. On every other day that ends in a y, it wants to break me.”*

Zera must do the bidding of the witch who holds her heart. The people she cares for know she was sent to steal Prince Lucian’s heart and turn him into a monster just like her. As she tries to navigate a kingdom where many know her dark secret and see her as a traitor, she’s given a new task. She must train a different kind of monster, and die as many times as it takes to get the job done. Success could mean regaining her heart, her memories, and her mortality, but also could give the one who controls her unspeakable power and break Lucian’s heart in the process.

The world Wolf creates is unique, yet holds the familiarity of a beloved fairytale. The characters are vividly rendered, and the story is well-structured and emotionally satisfying.

I highly suggest reading BRING ME THEIR HEARTS before FIND ME THEIR BONES for the best reading experience and to appreciate the depth of the world Wolf creates. The first book had more focus on romance, as Zera worked to win Lucian’s affection, but this installment has plenty of swoon-worthy romantic moments, as well as themes around redemption, friendship, and the quest for power. There are plenty of surprises, great new characters, as well as humor and heart.

I am a big fan of Wolf and this fantastic YA romantic fantasy series. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment.

Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for providing an Advance Reader Copy.

Wow! What a way to continue an amazing first novel. This books picks up right where the last book left off. I don't want to say to much because of spoilers. However, if you loved the first book you will love where the story is going. Wolf's writing style has me hanging on every word and desperate for more. I could barely put it down in my busy life. I highly recommend reading the first and the second one (and the third on when it releases!). This author and series is worth it.

I think this one was a solid 3.5 stars, because I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first one. I did enjoy it however. I think it was a good middle book, those usually suffering a bit by building plot points for the future book. I still liked all the characters and the romance. For me, there was quite a bit of repetition throughout the book so we're kind of hit over the head with the same thing over and over and it dragged a little here and there. Overall, I did like it and I will definitely be reading the next book.

While I still loved this book, it wasn't as amazing as the first. And that was because Lucien and Zera's relationship had me so frustrated for the whole damn book. Even so, this was still such a great read. I just love Zera with her personality. I love Lucien with his loyalty and determination.

We pick up right where we left off with the last book. To say that Lucien is shocked to see his sister alive is an understatement, but that doesn't dim his happiness to have her back. Even when he finds out what she did to fake her own death. But Zera's secret and her betrayal are out now and he's not the only one hurt by her actions. Even so, he still asks Varia to ask the king to spare Zera. Which she does quite willingly because she has her own agenda.

Zera finds herself with a new witch master in this book, one that is nothing like her last. Having commands forced upon her is not something she likes, but she's also given the opportunity to get her heart back. All she has to do is teach a valkerax to weep. Easy. Or not. She has to die many times just to talk to it, and that's after it rips her body apart the first time she goes to it. But eventually they become friends of a sort and I found it adorable when the valkerax would curl around her during their talks.

When Zera is not with the valkerax she is either trying to figure out more about the bone tree that's become Varia's obsession, while trying to avoid Lucien. Oh Lucien. How amazingly swoon worthy this boy is. Despite how he feels about Zera's betrayal, his anger with her doesn't last long and soon he's following her and trying to get her to see the good in herself that she refuses to acknowledge. He also spends a great deal of time trying to get her to tell him what his sister is up to. He tries to fight it, but he still loves her and he wants her to admit she loves him as well. Which is what I was talking about frustrating me the whole book. I understand why Zera thinks she has to make him move on, but her constantly hurting him and pushing him away just made me so mad. Because, goddamn it, these two are perfect together.

All the death and destruction we get in this book lead up to a great climax. Where a new truth is revealed and someone gets the power they desire. A power great enough to destroy the world. Now I just hope that Zera gets her head on straight and finally decides to work with the people I've been wanting her to all along.

It also ends on another cliffhanger that has me already impatiently waiting for the next book.

So much more, and better than I could have ever imagined!! The magical system and world building are two of my favorite parts of the story. The details are perfect, not overwhelming or overbearing.
The characters are amazing, with some new and old of course!! Zera and Lucien are my favorite foes to lovers couple. Their banter is the best, and their relationship is relatable, and intriguing.
The politics in this book are more forward and bring more to to story in this book also.
Wyrms, witches, and monsters galore!!! It was perfect the whole way through. Never a boring moment with a Heartless!!
Zera is a great character all around. I actually her anti-heroism and characteristics. They make her relatable and pulls you in to each of her emotions and thoughts!!
Incredible story but after that ending I neeed the next book please!!

Find Me Their Bones is book two in the Bring Me Their Hearts series by Sara Wolf and if you haven’t stared this series yet, I recommend you go do that now. As this is a second book, if you haven’t read the first, there is a good chance there will be spoilers for book one below…be warned.

This book picks up right where book one left off and Zera has revealed who she really is to Lucien. Not only that, but as Zera is revealed as a Heartless, out of the woods walks Varia, Lucien’s sister who has been missing for five years. With all of those things happening, it’s no surprise that Lucien tries to distance himself from Zera. He hadn’t opened himself up to anyone the way he had with her and her betrayal definitely affects him.

While Zera waits for her witch, Nightsinger, to shatter her, she actually finds herself in a position to have a second chance at getting her heart back. Unfortunately, it comes at a terrible price and Zera has to decide what’s most important to her. Along the way, Zera faces a number of challenges, including taming a valkerax to get it to tell them the location of the tree. Oddly enough, this isn’t really the hardest thing she has to do. She also has to come face to face routinely with those she lied to about who / what she is.

As Zera works with the valkerax, we get to learn a lot more about the species. In addition to that, we learn more about what Varia has been up to (since she’s been gone) and what she is planning to do going forward. I thought Wolf did a great job in keeping the story moving, introducing new, impactful characters, and not losing sight of the relationship that had developed between Zera, Lucien, and the others.

I love Zera. She is strong and sarcastic and even though she is supposed to be this mindless being who just follows orders, she is much more than that. Throughout this series I have always felt that Zera is in a difficult position and regardless of what she is now, she was never given a choice on whether to become a Heartless or not. Not only that, but in this book, she is treated with little to no regard of her feelings and it made me what to yell at every single one of the characters surrounding her. I get that some were afraid or didn’t trust her but some of the things she had to deal with just made me angry.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend the series. If you are looking for a book that has magic, great characters, and some swoons, consider checking this one out. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book so I can find out what happens next!

Bring Me Their Hearts was an automatic favorite of mine last year, and the ending almost killed me, so as you could imagine I was incredibly excited to dive back into this world!

My favorite part of these books hands down is Zera. She again brings the sass and witty comments, she’s so loving and loyal to her friends, and the entire time I felt a rollercoaster of emotions because she just deserves to finally be happy.
I don’t even know where to start off with Lucien… and I think that just goes to show how well Sara Wolf writes her characters. He is so hot and cold; you never know if you want to trust him and/or root for him. In the end I really liked his character development- and I cannot wait to see where it goes in book 3.
I also really, really liked Mal. I do admit at first, I wanted him to kick rocks, but he ended up blossoming into such a great guy. I wish I could say the same for Fione. She was as bland as oatmeal.

The overall plot took me a little while to get into, but around the half-way point it really starts to pick up. I’m only giving this book 3 stars because it wasn’t exactly what I had expected… The book is called “Find Me Their Bones” and Zera is walking through the woods on the cover, so I expected more adventure, and world-building, maybe Zera and Lucien being forced to go on an adventure together, but atlas it was in a more localized setting. At one point I also got tired with the back and forth between Lucien and Zera… We just had an entire book of their slow-burn developing romance, and Lucien is slightly too cruel given the circumstances. Overall, I did enjoy this book and I cannot wait for book 3!

“Love isn’t fair at all, ever.”

3.5 ⭐️

The first book ended with a great cliffhanger and we start exactly from where we have left. Since the beginning we find out that Zera is still Heartless, but she has a new master. Again she has a mission to accomplish in order to have her heart back and of course Lucien remains an obstacle.

Honestly I think that the plot has become more complex and rich in this second book. Not only we read about characters’ past, but we are also immersed in Vetrisian history. I like Varia, I mean she is crazy but also a great introduction for the plot and I’m very curious to see what she’ll do in the future. Unfortunately I think my favorite character, that is Zera, has become less funny and too much self pitying. We know she feels guilty, we know she is destroyed but at least in “Bring me their hearts” she used irony. In this book she can only say to everyone that she is not good enough for Luc and that they have to help her to find him a new girl, as if he were not able by himself 🙈.

“Find me their bones” ends with another great cliffhanger. I have figured out most of the things but the last pages kept me riveted to the chair! I want to thank Netgalley and Entangledteen for the opportunity to read this book in advance and I am definitely intrigued to read the sequel.

Wow wow wow wow
This book picks up right after the end of the first book. With twists and betrayals. My favorite new character is Ev. Luv is still great and he has a change happening. Nobody is as they seem. The ending is crazy and it's going to be really hard to wait for the last book.

My rating of this book depends very heavily on whether there is going to be another book after this one or not. For now I'm going to assume that there will be because it feels like we'll see a third book in this series. However, I can't find anything anywhere to indicate that my line of thinking is correct. I'm still holding out some degree of hope though because the author doesn't really have a huge online presence so maybe....????

Because I honestly love this series. In this book, we see Zera's entire world flipped upside-down as she makes yet another deal to get her heart back. After finding out her secret, no one that Zera was close to can stand to look at her anymore. She'd leave but her heart is now closer than ever and if that means she has to endure icy treatment from her former friends and a jilted ex-lover to get it back, then so be it. Zera is well and truly on her own as she tries to complete her new task before the war truly starts, deal with a new witch and her plot to bring peace, and figure out how to heal some of the wounds she's caused.

Zera is still sassy as all get out though we get some of it in smaller doses since she spends much of her time isolated. I enjoyed seeing how Zera attempted to bridge the gasps she caused by keeping secrets while also trying to keep everyone at arms length. It lead to some very tense moments that were absolutely to die for.

Like I said before, I really hope we're going to get another book in this series and most of that really comes from the ending. For a middle book, it has me itching to pick up the next book immediately. For a last book, it was a deeply unsatisfying ending. There were more reveals which lead to more questions and very little was actually wrapped up; which is why it also feels like a middle book. I really hope it's a middle book. There's so much more story to tell and I really want to hear it.

I was so excited when my wish for Find Me Their Bones was granted! I loved Bring Me Their Hearts and I couldn’t wait to read the sequel. Find Me Their Bones blew my breath away and stole my heart.

The worldbuilding in this series has always been the aspect that astounds me the most, and this sentiment grew ten times with this book. The further development of the mythology and religion was so, so cool. I loved delving into this world of witches and Heartless and valkerax.

I’ll be honest and say that I couldn’t remember everything from the first book, but I started this one anyways and I’m so glad I did! The plot is fast-paced; I couldn’t put Find Me Their Bones down because every new scene had me enraptured.

The characters are back and as great as ever. I adore Zera’s sass, and her comebacks have me in tears. However, the angst between her and Lucien made me so sad, though not in a way that I hated. Also Zera having to keep secrets from her friends was so heartbreaking; she’s in a difficult position but also trying to keep them safe, even after she’s betrayed them and they no longer trust her.

I can’t really say much about the plot of this book just because of spoilers, but I will say that this one was truly crushing. Again, the angst! The character growth!

The prose is stunning! I found that it really emphasized the angst, as Wolf did not pull any punches when writing. It’s hard to describe why I love her writing so much, but I just do. It’s addicting, and I could not put this book down.

Find Me Their Bones enamored me with its prose and characters. I greatly appreciated the plot, although the angst left me heartbroken. If you haven’t read Bring Me Their Hearts, I can’t recommend you do so now that the sequel releases soon. This series will bewitch you and take your heart!

Find Me Their Bones by Sara Wolf is the second book in the young adult romantic fantasy Bring Me Their Hearts series. This series is definitely one that a reader should start from the beginning and read in order as the story now in the second book has picked up right after the cliffhanger ending of the first and wouldn’t be understood out of order.

In the first book of the series, Bring Me Their Hearts, readers met Zera who was a Heartless, or a twist on what we know of as a zombie. When Zera’s family was killed by Heartless a witch, Nightsinger, decided to spare Zera by making her into a Heartless herself instead of letting her die. By taking her heart Nightsinger had control of Zera and she became the monster she had feared. A Heartless is very zombie like in the urge to murder and their need for raw meat but still looking human and hanging onto a thread of her humanity Zera wanted nothing more than her heart back and to be human again.

When Nightsinger was approached to allow the use of Zera to infiltrate and get close to Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane Nightsinger made Zera an offer she couldn’t refuse. If Zera could attempt to pass as human and win the Prince’s heart to allow Nightsinger to take his heart she would trade it for Zera’s own and grant her freedom and her life back. Battling the monster inside of her Zera vows to bring Nightsinger the Prince but if she failed Nightsinger would crush her own heart.

Bring Me Their Hearts was one of those books I became cover obsessed and needed to read simply after a glance and thankfully when I did I really enjoyed it. The material was an original take on an old classic and I loved Zera’s snarky zombiefied self right from the beginning. All of that carried over into the second book but the romance did take a seat in the background while progressing the story. This one does have a bit of middle book feel to it even with the action that takes place as we just wind up back to another cliffhanger without anything getting resolved but I’m definitely still a fan and waiting for book three.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I absolutely loved Bring Me Their Hearts (I literally shrieked at the cliffhanger it was left on and I honestly don't think I've ever done that before) and have been so looking forward to Find Me Their Bones - and I'm glad to say that I was not at all disappointed by it. I read it cover to cover in one go, simply because I couldn't put it down.

I think what I appreciated most about it is the tone in which it's written, particularly Zera's dialogue and her attitude. The 'strong and confident' female lead can be done very poorly, in that many YA books have this character type behave in an over the top fashion for the duration of the narrative. The way that Zera behaves, often bringing sass and trying to find humour in situations in which she she cannot escape or finds too uncomfortable to bear is clearly presented as a coping mechanism when paired with her moments of fear, uncertainty and a deep sense of being unworthy. Her humour feels like a natural, defensive response and it doesn't paint her as unbearably smug or overconfident. She is simply trying to deal with all that's been forced upon her. Wolf strikes a very fine balance with Zera, ensuring that, while she has moments of physical and emotional strength, there are just as many instances of pain and vulnerability that keep her from being too much of one and not enough of the other. Though there are a lot of characters in YA books that I appreciate for the way they are, I find that Zera is one that I actually like, which I think is quite different to simply enjoying how a character is written.

One of the things I was glad of is that Zera, though plainly upset over what has happened to her relationship with Lucien, doesn't obsess over it or let herself be so much in love that it overwhelms everything else. Yes, she loves him, and yes, there are moments when she wishes things could be different and thinks about him in a romantic way, but in almost every instant she is quick to divert herself from those thoughts and try to do something practical about not getting close to him again (whether it works or otherwise). She does her best to push him and others away, lying as and when she must with the intention of hurting them to keep them from growing attached to her in ways that will cost them, and does not dwell on how this makes her feel or fall into the trap of agonising about it to the detriment of the narrative. The exploration of her relationship with Lucien in Find Me Their Bones is not so much a look at romance and regrets, but how dangerous feelings stand to be, particularly in how they can be used to manipulate and expose weaknesses.

Find Me Their Bones is a well-paced, engaging and immersive read with a solid cast of characters (even those with smaller roles are not merely names and roles) and I can't wait for the next book! Thank you to Entangled: Teen for the ARC!

FIND ME THEIR BONES is a compelling sequel to BRING ME THEIR HEARTS. Picking up right where the first book left off, this one spares little to recap the previous book and launches in to a new story line and adventure. Zera is a Heartless, an immortal being who is tied to the witch that holds their heart. They need to eat organs to live (animal organs will do) and are considered dangerous and ruthless. Zera is at war with herself over her nature and who she wants to be.

In the sequel, Zera has a new witch master with a new task to earn her heart back. She longs to be human but she does worry over the friendships broken, the value of herself/heart vs. others, and who she will be when she is again human.

Zera must teach a dangerous beast how to Weep, a rare skill that allows Heartless to disobey their witch and act of their own volition for a short period of time. The valkerax is a mythical creature come to life and speaks with her in poetic language. Unraveling all the threads of those who wish to use Zera, those who may care for her, and the dangers yet to come makes this book quite a quick and intense read.

Zera herself is continuously evolving as she learns more about herself, her desires, and where she wishes to fall at the end of things. Although this book ends with a cliffhanger, the journey was quite full. I think a reread of the first book would be helpful before starting this one, as there is not a lot of time spent recapping the first (only some mentions here and there). However, this book launches into a different adventure that makes the first background material.

This book is really engrossing. Zera and the valkerax bring all new insights and historical context to the world and themselves. Zera also manages to continue to bring the snark in this book, and I absolutely adore her (as much as she might believe she is unlovable). I highly recommend picking up this series for any fans of YA fantasy, and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.

Compelling, unique, and entirely engrossing, FIND ME THEIR BONES is the fantastic sequel we have been waiting for.

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Absolutely amazing. Another fabulous book. From "dead" princess to crazy witch. Heck the whole family is joining the witch community. I feel so bad for zera she lives Lucien so much but must act like she hates him because her mindset is so wrong. Its so sad. I really hope in the third book they get together. Can't wait for the next book. I love these books.

This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!

Find Me Their Bones immediately kicks off where the 1st book (Bring Me Their Hearts) ends – in sheer chaos, utter confusion, betrayals, and heartbreak with long lasting consequences. Trust is broken, relationships shattered, and everyone is left reeling. Now stuck in the Cavanos palace awaiting her fate, Zera welcomes the opportunity – and distraction – of secretly training a dangerous valkerax under the city – a weapon of an impending war; her human heart in return - if she successfully completes her task - from some one she never thought possible.

Zera’s story continues to hurt my heart. What she truly wants in life is always attached to strings that she can’t fully grasp onto no matter how far she reaches. She’s truly tired. Tired of being a Heartless, of the complications, soul shattering disappointments, and headaches. Most of all, she’s tired of the moments that tricked her into thinking that she could have something special. The stubborness and determination pores from every facet of her choices, actions, and even reactions and you watch as it only breaks her that much more.

Lucien is guarded and mysterious as ever. I have no business mentioning how disgustingly sexy and swoon-worthy he also continues to be, but we all make mistakes and I am going to sit here in my wrongness and like it!

Individually, they are still amazing, solid characters that jump off the page, but together they continue to set the room on fire and burn it to the ground. Just as one mask slips, the other is adjusted and I have never wanted to lock two fictional characters in a closet more in my life and demand that I see nothing short of a gratuitous make out session at the VERY least for my troubles.

The angst is the kind that I chase for my next high. Very few can master it the first time, even fewer can make a career out of it, but Sara has nailed it – to her wall in a nice frame no less. I called her a national treasure in my arc review of Bring Me Their Hearts last year and while I got jokes, that’s not one of them. She instantly landed at #1 on my favorite authors list in 2016 with the re-release of her ‘Lovely Vicious’ series and those three books alone irrevocably changed my reading landscape forever. I now search for books that is going to give me the same emotional experience and here’s the best part – there aren’t any! Not to say that there aren’t any books out there with the same type of emotional pulls, but Sara is truly her own and that is what makes her work so raw, special, and commanding.

I can’t walk away from this review without mentioning the twist. A twist very late into the last 20% or so that had me backtracking, questioning, and drawing diagrams to understand what! Just! Happened! Only after I untwisted myself from the fetal position and gave my eyes time to catch up with my brain because – and I quote – WHAT. THE. ACTUAL?! If there was ever something (anything!) that hinted at that in the first book, it was completely overlooked and I’ve re-read Bring Me Their Hearts numerous times since that initial arc read. It’s the kind of twist that turns everything on its head, flips the script, drops the mic and the ramifications are HUGE (!!!) moving forward. And as you’re trying to process all of THAT, the irony of the situation hits you like brick sh!thouse and all you can do is laugh hysterically because this series is reserving a straightjacket and a padded cell just for you. And bonus! I haven’t even mentioned the cliffhanger! *hysterical laugh* *twitch*

I’m sure we are in for another year wait for book 3. I could beg and plead for it to be here tomorrow, but you know what? No. I know Sara is going to bring it and it will give me plenty of time to strap myself into this emotional rollercoaster and wait for my ride to begin.

Strong sequel for an amazing book! I didn't like this one as much as BRING ME THEIR HEARTS, but it was still a very good read. It was a bit hard for me to truly get into this book as opposed to the 1st one. I felt like I was expecting a bit too much. I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm disappointed though, as it truly still was a fun book to read. Cliffhanger was perfect, characters were still strong, and the pacing was solid save for a few moments.

After the cliffhanger in Bring me Their Hearts, I knew I had to pick up the sequel ASAP. I must admit that even though I really enjoyed the first installment, I didn’t remember much about what happened in it, so I went into Find Me Their Bones a bit unsure as to what to expect. Overall I have to say that I ended up really enjoying this one, and it was a lot easier to get into this sequel that what I thought it would be.

Something that I really love about this series is how fast paced the books are. I become so immerse in the story that I can’t stop reading until I know how everything’s going to end, and with Find Me Their Bones happened exactly the same. I was a bit confused at the very beginning trying to place everything that was going on, but as I continued reading I became more engrossed in the book and finished it in two sittings, which was so surprising to me.

I also really loved how the author explored more of this world and the magic, and we learnt more about it. It was a bit more complex than the first installment, and though the plot had little to do with what was introduced to us in the fist book, I still really enjoyed the tone and everything that was going on in this one. There were some new creatures, as well as more information about certain characters’ backstories that I found super interesting and added something new to the plot, and there was a much more complex plot as well.

When it comes to the characters, I have to say that I enjoyed them more in this particular book. I don’t know if it was because I already knew them and been distanced from them for more than a year, but I adored our protagonist Zera a lot more. She had such a great evolution, and something that I loved about her was how determined she was at getting her heart back and how she was willing to do anything to get it, even if that meant betraying the people she loved. That was a themed that was explored in Bring Me Their Hearts, but it didn’t change in the sequel. There are times that when there is some sort of romance involved, the female character tends to change her vision of what she wants, but I was so happy to see that it wasn’t the case in neither of these books.

I was also a bit shocked to see that the romance between Zera and Lucien became a much lesser focused in Find Me Their Bones, and it was more heavily focused on the plot and the characters’ growth. To be honest, though I still think the last installment will have a little bit of romance in it, I didn’t miss it in this one, because I was enjoying what was going on.

The ending, again, was a huge cliffhanger, though not as shocking as the one in the first one. I liked the direction the story is taking, and am intrigued to know what will happen to these characters and what the plot will be.

Overall, I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Find Me Their Bones. It was such a fast paced story that it took me so little to read, and I really enjoyed the character arcs and the dynamics going on between them in this installment. The plot was a bit more complex, and we learnt more about the world and the magic system, which was something that I appreciated.
