It pains me to say this because I loved Victoria Jenkins King & Lane series, but this was so boring. I was looking forward to her new stand alone suspense novel, however, there is nothing suspenseful to this story. A quarter away in I knew what was happening so nothing was surprising. The characters were mediocre, the plot was nothing interesting, and the ending was, no word for it, but boring. This was just a blah book all the way around. Even though I’m disappointed, I cannot wait to read another of her books because I loved her previous ones so much.

*Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars... was the first for me from this author. Didn't love it, didn't dislike it.. was just an ok read for me, found myself skimming some of the words. Didn't pull me in and make me not want to put this down. Would still try more from this author.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an early release of this book

This book started out great and really grabbed me, but then it got a bit crazy and unrealistic. Definitely an interesting read, but peters out somewhat towards the middle/end.

Karen, a therapist, is jaded by her past when she accepts clients Lydia and Josh. The excitement ramps up as Karen becomes increasingly involved in their lives.

A poignant look at marriage counselling through the eyes of the therapist and her clients. This read becomes difficult to put down as the conclusion nears.

Personally, I did not like the characters, yet they Become more well developed as the story progresses.

A good, quick read !

Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a fast, interesting, read !

My first book from the author and quite an intriguing story.
I liked the writing style very much and the fact that was simple and had the main characters points of view was an added bonus to this story full of mysteries and a bit of suspense.
The first half of the book felt a bit flat and left me with a lot of questions about what is really going on and what can happen next if the story continues like this. But in the second half, the story takes a faster pace and the turn at the end was quite surprising as I didn’t see it coming and I suppose that was the main meaning of the whole story.
Will definitely read more books by the author in the future.

An enjoyable and easy to follow psychological thriller revolving around three characters the marriage counselor Karen and the couple Lydia and Josh. Green.

The chapters alternate between the three of them and from the beginning it clear clear that something is off and the three of them seem to be unreliable narrators.
The plot held my attention because I wanted to know what was exactly going on and who is lying since the narrative made it pretty much clear that all is not as it seems. So it becomes very interesting to follow the charades played by the characters until the final reveal.

Thanks Netgalley, Bookouture, and author Victoria Jenkins for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

The writing of this book is excellent, however it failed for me on the execution. Imagine being a fly on the wall during a marriage counseling session of two people you do not know and there is nothing exciting to learn about them.

This is a quick read that is very compulsive and I found myself grabbing every spare minute to read as I wanted to know just where this story was going. Told from the different points of view of Karen, Lydia and Josh it had me trying to guess who was the reliable one and actually just what the hell was going on because as the book progressed it became clear that all is not as it seems !! It’s such a well written story and my first by Victoria Jenkins and I was really impressed by quality of the writing and enjoyability I got from reading this. So a solid 3+ star read for me that kept my attention throughout.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

A young couple visit Karen, a marriage counsellor, hoping to resolve their issues. Soon Karen is faced with a problem she has tackled before; should she be honest to Lydia about how she sees Josh, or should she continue to try to help them through their problems?

Hmm. My initial reaction to this is only ok. It’s a really slow burn. For the first third of the book I was just plodding along. I didn’t feel anything for any of the characters; I didn’t like any but I also didn’t hate any of them, which I think I was supposed to considering how one of them is painted for the reader and the other characters pretty early on. Instead I just kind of didn’t care.

By halfway through I was pretty certain I knew what was going on. I didn’t trust any of the characters. But I still didn’t care. I really think I was supposed to be bothered by incidents, but I just couldn’t care less.

I was happy to reach the end, just because I wanted it to be over. I was hoping it would redeem itself by the end, that something would happen to shock and astound me. Nothing did. It posted out almost exactly as I thought it would, no shocks or surprises.

The positives for me was the language used. Ok, so it was slow and that style of writing bothered me in this book. But the descriptions, the language, the metaphors and similes. I loved this part of the book. I actually highlighted a lot of sentences because did me that part of the book was great. I enjoyed individual sentences more than the storyline.

Because of the writing, I won’t let this stop me from reading more from this author - this was my first book by her - and I’m happy to give her another chance. It wasn’t unredeemable!

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. My opinions have been in no way influenced by this.

This was a hard to put down kind of a book. A quick easy read. It engages you quickly and keeps you hooked since it doesn’t have too many characters and the plot is very focused. It’s succinctly written. You know right from the start that something is off about the couple but the reveal and the games they play make it very interesting to read.
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for providing me with an ARC for review.
