If you love Angie Thomas, you will definitely love this! This tackles SUCH an important topic in such an accessible way that I think will be able to reach out to many teens (racism being taught through a computer game *apparently* based on Wakanda...yea I think it'll work). I particularly loved the discussion on what it means to stand up for your community, specifically what it means to Kiera to stand up for the black community when she has such an important voice, especially when trying to navigate such a difficult discussion with people like her boyfriend, her parents, her opinionated younger sister, her white and black friends, etc. constantly talking in her ears. This was a really strong debut novel, and I'm excited to see what the author comes up with in the future. I could tell throughout the book that she herself played VR computer games, similar to SLAY, considering how detailed the descriptions of the games were, which made it all the more interesting! This also goes into detail about the realities of discrimination in the online world of video gaming, which is super prevalent and isn't talked about enough!!!!!!!!!!

I would highly recommend supporting this author and this very topical story of a young black woman trying to use her voice in the right way. :)
