I liked this cookbook. It had all kinds of recipes for tailgating, and the amount of easy appetizers was tremendous. Great for all seasons, too.

Loaded with recipes for tailgating, but you could adapt them to the oven.

Tailgating Done Right by Anne Scheaffer has many and unusual recipes to chose from if you enjoy tailgating or food in general. In addition to all the recipes, she give you tips for pre-game success.

The cook book is divided into the following chapters:

Kick Off Apps & Snacks
Main Events
Get the Grill
Foil Packs
Sidelines & Salads
Post Game Desserts

I did try one of the recipes from the cookbook; Fan Favorite Shrimp Packs. It was easy to follow the directions and there was a picture of the pack so I knew how to lay it all out. It was delicious, easy to prepare, and simple clean up. The pack had corn on the cob, polish sausage, asparagus, shrimp, mushrooms, and seasonings. I adapted it to the oven instead of the grill as I wasn’t tailgating.

Some of the other recipes I would like to try include Red Zone Radish Crostini, Champion Caprese, Third and Long Asparagus, Linebacker Burgers, Trade Worthy Tacos, Sweet Victory Southern Drumsticks, Upright Veggie Kabobs, Field Goal Cheese Fries, Out of Bounds Boozy Banana Boats, Two-Minute-Warning Toffee, and Extra Point Strawberry Cheesecake Poppers. There are many more I want to try, but this gives you an idea of what kind of recipes are in the cookbook. And aren’t the names clever? Loved that about this cookbook.

Thank you to NetGalley, Anne Scheaffer, and Fox Chapel Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this 5 star book.

Didn't love this one. For me the formatting was off putting and the red X usage was distracting. I prefer a list of ingredients followed by instruction. And the sheer volume of recipes was overwhelming. There were certain,y a few I would try, but most of them weren't ones I was interested in. Unfortunately this was a miss for me.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this cookbook! I've been looking for a book like this with simple, yet FUN recipes that one can share with a crowd (large or small) The photos are great! Each recipe looks (YUM) sooooo good!

Also, I appreciate how they simplify how each recipe is written - short and to the point!!! It's an all around VERY enjoyable cookbook that will most likely get used time and time again!!!

I HIGHLY-HIGHLY recommend Tailgating Done Right!!!!

Football food done right. Everything from finger food to full meals. It's not often that I look through a cook book and have 90% of the recipes be something I would actually prepare and eat. But this - this accomplishes that perfectly. I can't wait for my next football bash.

This is a great book for tailgating, but also for backyard BBQs, get togethers, camping and easy dinners, since most are easy to make ahead and make on site, and serve a crowd! Most of the recipes are super simple to make, and your family is sure to find quite a few new family favorites in this book! There are old standbys and new unique combinations (like watermelon and jalepenos, brats and tortillas, or potato salad and onions) that will soon become your new standbys!

The recipes cover everything you would need for all day tailgating, and kids will delight in the snacks and desserts that are easy enough to make anytime! I love how each recipe has a colored picture, so you know exactly what it is supposed to look like! That and simple directions (some including pictures), make this a book any level of cook can use! There is a dichotomy in editing- with some recipes having an ingredient list before the directions, and others just incorporating both into one paragraph of directions. So just make sure you read the entire page first, to make sure you have what you need! We've already tried a few on the main course recipes for dinner, and they have all been spectacularly easy and good!

This is a great book for giving and keeping!

Sports fans will welcome Anne Scheaffer’s fun cookbook, Tailgating Done Right Cookbook: 150 Recipes for a Winning Game Day, Tailgate-Ready Crowd-Pleasers from Appetizers to Desserts including Chicken, Chili, Burgers, Brownies, & More. It contains dozens of mouthwatering recipes to serve when tailgating, camping, or just entertaining. There are great grilled meats, seafood, and poultry, as well as meatballs, dips, dunks, and cheese balls. Of course there are some good desserts, too. The author has used her imagination to name the dishes with clever game-related names.

The book includes beautiful photographs of the recipes, which makes it difficult to decide which recipe to make next. There are several burgers that are in the queue – different from the norm, and quite unique. These hamburgers are reason alone to purchase this fun cookbook, and hot dog and Brat lovers will not be disappointed. There are also appetizers that can be served anytime, and will appeal to everyone – sports fans as well as backyard get-togethers. Pizzas are on the menu, as well as kabobs, tacos, unique foil dinners (several, and they are mouthwatering), and great sandwiches. Salads and side dishes that complement the mains are included, and some of the desserts are showstoppers and include shortcakes, cookies and bars, and grilled fruit.

While most of the recipes are easy-to-follow, there are a few that don’t fit the norm and are in paragraph form rather than a list of ingredients with instructions that follow. It is strange that the author doesn’t stick to a plan and presents recipes in different formats in the same book. The recipes in paragraph form are difficult to follow and it’s hard to find all the ingredients to put on a grocery list. Another small drawback is that there aren’t notes at the beginning of the recipes explaining things.

If you are one to entertain on game day, this book is highly recommended, albeit the small drawbacks. The recipes are great; the photographs are great; and there is something here for almost everyone.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Just in time for football season! A group of us have season tickets for college football. Over the years our tailgating fare has expanded. Currently, we have 7-8am setup times with tables and catering food containers and heating units...my standard buffalo chicken dip of the past doesn’t quite make the quality cut these days. This cookbook changed all that and upped the ante on topping group’s “must have” list.

The Blindsided by Tequila-Lime Salsa was mind blowing and a real hit with the home team. The flavors are both familiar and unique at the same time, an excellent combo! I placed it next to my chicken dip and did not say anything and just waited for people to try it. It wasn’t long that they were raving and asking who brought the dip and what’s in it. We took the author’s recommendation, too, and added to the burgers for extra zip! Looking forward to making the Touchdown Cheese Ball for our next tailgate and High-Octane chili in November.

What I love about this cookbook is how it spices up tailgating and our away game events at the house. There are plenty of twists on the standard tailgate menu in addition to plenty of new ideas. With the holidays coming up it is always a challenge to come up with new and unique, sure an internet search can help, but I find myself spending more time browsing and flipping through recipes and with this I can quickly open and find something great in just a few minutes.

For those who like to get into grilling and serving up serious meals in foil from meatballs to lasagna to short ribs, kielbasa to lemon chicken and everything in between there’s a recipe to fit your needs. From easy eats to “food truck” gourmet in the lot this selection is bound to “kick it up a notch” and make your group smile!

While it is not specifically denoted in the cookbook, there are plenty of vegetarian, keto, and gluten free friendly options, too. For those more savvy in vegan prep, you will likely find plenty of recipes to satisfy your group’s cravings with alternatives. There are already healthy substitutions that likely fit the bill (chipotle-life cauliflower steaks) the seasonings may need modification. Some examples for food allergies/diet restrictions include: Huddle up! Champion Caprese, Ahead of the Game Cajun Nuts, Game Thyme Appetizers, Italian snap peas, placekicker sweet potatoes and many more.

The versatility, in addition to the diverse recipes make this cookbook an instant classic for every season and event.

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me a chance to read and review, "Tailgating Done Right Cookbook" by Anne Scheaffer. I really enjoyed this cookbook. While I am not very big on sports, I love food associated with them. Each recipe has a clever name and I loved the substitution ideas the recipes provided. Perfect for anyone who loves to tailgate and doesn't want overly complicated recipes!

I'm not a sports fan of any type, but have family who are, so, sometimes we all get together for a Superbowl party. While the fans watch the game, A few of us craft. BUT we all eat! This book is so going to get a lot of mileage come whenever the Superbowl is in 2020! Lots of mouth watering recipes (I was especially excited to find a Cracker Jacks dish in here!) Something every everyone.

Some of these recipes are delicious. I found the organization and presentation of the recipes to be inconsistent soje are simply written as you make and others have a defined ingredient list. But this can easily be solved in final editing (my rating reflects the poor presentation choice) but I still like this cookbook.

I loved the portion ideas for serving the dips and veggies already portioned in cups so easy. The Huddle up Sandwiches are the perfect size. I will definitely use this cookbook. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review and for me it's a great find.

I am not a big fan of this title. I thought it was going to be full of great recipes which were easy to make and prepare. Sadly many of the dishes were quite unhealthy, I'm not a health freak by any means but I like to think that the food I make has some nutritional value.

Hardly any of the recipes appealed to me and those that did were not pictured so sometimes difficult to envisage especially when the titles of the recipes relate more to sport than food, this was annoying as you have to read through the ingredient list to get an idea of what the dish actually was.

On up side the book does contain some good ideas for food you can prepare in advance and finish off in a flash.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.

Not a Touchdown!

If you're hungry this is the book for you. Tons of recipes. But it's too much!!! A fresher take on those party foods that we love would have been a great approach. I have to admit that the red X's used within the body of the recipe's was distracting. And if you're not a die hard football fan the recipe names are overkill. BUT, I'll still make many of these dishes and this would be a fantastic gift.

This was a refreshing cookbook for tailgating, which I actually don't do; but I love the easy recipes that come with tailgating and barbecuing. I noted quite a few of these to try soon, especially the foil packs! I want to have a whole dinner of foil packs this week. Easy, simple, tasty!

This is a great cookbook. We like to camp and the recipes found in this book would be easy to make while camping. I like the easy to find ingredients. Kids would enjoy many of these recipes. I did show my husband a few of the recipes and he gave his approval. This is fun food that may not be appropriate to eat every day but it sure is fun to splurge.
