Opposites attract in this humorous early chapter book featuring Frank (who likes peace and quiet) and Bean (who likes lots of noise and activity). Although they're very different, Frank and Bean will come together to make music together that celebrates both of their strengths. This is a funny early chapter book that I would hand to fans of Bink & Gollie or Frog & Toad.

I really like the illustrations in this book, but found the story so-so.

I can see early readers––the book's audience––finding the story amusing: the plays-on-words and other jokes here and there. A frankfurter and a bean meet and talk; that premise alone will get some kids smiling, I imagine. Story could be more compelling, in my opinion, but maybe early readers will have a different point of view.

Frank and Bean

by Jamie Michalak (Goodreads Author), Bob Kolar (Illustrations)

I give Frank and Bean four out of five birds. My first impressions of both Frank and Bean were “they’re annoying…” But as I kept turning the pages they won me over and had me laughing by the end. It reminded me we don’t always know why someone is the way they are. I thought Frank was just being a brat, but he was scared. So I think that’s a great talking point with this book. I also think this is a perfect starter chapter book to introduce young readers too. I really liked the art and honesty in the end. Overall, a rough start but liked it by the end!

Thanks Netgalley for the free advanced copy in exchange for my honest review! This book drops October 8th, 2019!

Frank and Bean, by Jamie Michalak, is a fun beginning chapter book for new readers! Readers who love engaging characters and easy reads will without a doubt love getting to dive into this fun, new chapter book.

From the beginning, your young readers will fall in love with the characters, Frank (the hotdog) and Bean (the Baked Bean). They are hysterical, and throughout the whole text, readers will find themselves laughing aloud at the antics these two find themselves deep within.

Frank and Bean become quick acquaintances when they find themselves camping next to each other. Frank is calm and is looking for organization and quiet to complete some of his writing.

Bean, however, is not even close to the same as Frank. He is loud, wild, and impulsive.

Naturally, the two do not hit it off. Bean wishes Frank would loosen up and join the fun. While Frank finds himself continually annoyed by Bean's continual need for constant noise and motion.

Things come to a head at the end of the story! Finally, through the use of both their talents, Frank and Bean come up with a way they both can work together.

The result... a friendship that both Frank and Bean (as well as their readers) will never forget!

A hot dog and a bean become friends in this book perfect for beginning readers. Frank likes quiet and writing in his secret notebook. Bean is messy and loud and is looking for words so he can write a song. Although the two are different, they do find something they have in common. Humorous and cute.

Oh, how I love this book! Frank and Bean are very different, but somehow their friendship works to make them each better. The story is fun and engaging, the illustration fabulous. Kids will love Frank and Bean! I only wish it was around when my sons were young, they would have loved it! Very highly recommended!

Frank and Bean is a chapter book geared toward beginning readers. It begins by telling the story of Frank, someone who likes quiet and writes in a secret notebook. Frank meets the effervescent Bean who is noisy and friendly and does not want to go away. What joins the two in friendship? Young readers will find out as they read this amusingly illustrated book.

Frank and bean are two very different people. Frank is quiet and likes to write in his secret notebook. Bean is loud and won't sit still, but the worst is, he can't write songs for the music he makes. A silly story of two different people teaching each other very important lessons, while becoming wonderful friends. Maybe even rock stars?!

The story of two separate characters who eventually merge. Frank is the no-nonsense frankfurter and Bean is the fun-loving, loud-- Bean. Definitely an "Odd Couple" type of story for kids. Written in chapters, it's a simple story for young readers. I thought the illustrations were cute.

This is a weird one. At first, I didn't like it at all. Bean was annoying. But then... it grew on me. And now I think it's kind of fun.

Frank and Bean is a short, illustrated chapter book for kids about a couple of foodstuffs who are as different as they come. Frank likes peace and quiet so he can write in his secret notebook. Bean is LOUD. And messy. But he's parked his van near Frank's campsite, so Frank has to put up with him. Eventually, it comes out that Bean is looking for words for the songs he's written. Frank just might be able to help.

The silliness of anthropomorphized hot dogs and beans is amped up by the colourful pictures. They're suitably cute and complement the text well. The narrative itself is simple--it reads like it's aimed at the picture-book crowd--but well done and effective in telling the story.

After a rough start, this one kind of grew on me. It's not the best illustrated chapter book I've ever read, but it's a quick, entertaining read that'll leave you with a smile on your face.

This was a delightful sweet story about quiet, serious Frank and noisy, fun-loving Bean. Frank wants to write in his top secret journal. Bean wants to be noisy and make music. I thought this was a fun way to introduce compromise and how someone's weakness may be another person's strength. A great story about working together!

I loved the sweet artwork and I really think this is a book children will enjoy.

Thank you to #Goodreads and the publisher for an advanced electronic copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Nope. It looked like a kind of fun first reader. yes, it's a first reader. But no, not fun. Sorry. Not one I'suggest for purchase. Illustrations didn't grab me either.

Have you ever written a story or a poem but you are afraid of showing anyone because you are afraid they will laugh at you? Well, that is exactly how Frank felt. Frank liked being alone so that he could write in secret, but being alone just means roasting marshmallows by yourself and having no one to say good night to you. One day while Frank was quietly writing in his notebook he hears a whole lot of commotion. That is when Bean enters into his life with his bus, his musical instruments, and a whole lot of noise. Bean is a one-bean band in search of words to sing. Will Frank open up to Bean and show him his words, or will he send Bean on his way? Read this precious book to find out what happens to Frank and Bean.

This is such a cute story of friendship, facing your fears, and allowing yourself to open up to change. There are parts of this story that will have you laughing out loud and the illustrations are absolutely precious! This is a fantastic early chapter book for beginning readers.

What a great new book for young readers! As a librarian, it is sometimes hard to find a fun book that students will immediately fall in love with, but Frank and Bean one that students will enjoy. The characters are easy to fall in love with and the “graphic novel” style of the book introduces students to this style of writing. I think my students will love it and can’t wait to introduce it to them! 😊

What a funny and engaging story! First, the illustrations are beautiful and add so much to this great story of friendship. There's great dialogue and humor as these two get to know each other. Frank and Bean could not be more different, but as they get to know each other, they find that they fit well together as friends. Frank is lonely and needs a friend. Bean never met a stranger, but he needs a good friend too who can help him fulfill his dream. It's no spoiler, given the title, to say that a great friendship is born, as Frank and Bean realize they go together like well - Franks and Beans!

This is a beginner chapter book. I read 20 pages and found it dull. Does not have an engaging story line. Cute illustrations though.
