A-mazing! Simply amazing! Such a masterpiece of a story!

Emmaline Katz has the gift of foresight. She can draw things that will happen in the future. Her talent was discovered when she was still a kid by an evil man, who “adopted” her and kept her locked in a cage to use her skills only for him. But now she has escaped – and she will do anything in her power to stay free. On her journey she meets Marshall Boyer, who takes her in and helps her not only see what life is really about, but also who she can be when out of her prison. But Emma’s tormentor has not given up on his precious seer – and he’s willing to kill anyone standing in his way to get her back.

This book was so good, I read it all in one go! No kidding, it had me itching to see what would come next!

First of all, the characters were lit! Emma was adorable, and one of those rare cases of heroines where you can’t help but simply love her and wish to protect her from the whole world. I loved her gift, and the way she used it. And her reactions to everything she experienced just made me cry, I wanted to hug her so bad! Her kindness and shyness really intrigued me and complimented Marshall’s personality so well, too. Their romance was a slow-burning one, but it felt quite real, and the emotions just built up on the right pace.

Speaking of emotions, sooooo many of them! A roller-coaster, really. And they were beautifully mixed with tons of action, with a plot that left no holes, and covered all the bases. Truly the work of a true master wordsmith.

I hope there are more books coming in this little pocket of the world that Nika Dixon has carved. There were so many interesting characters that I would love to read about, like Danny and Sam, to name a couple of them.

I love a good story that includes danger, romance and edge of your seat action. The author really knows how to mingle the pieces together perfectly. First book by this author but definitely won’t be the last if her other books are like this one. Happy reading!!

Fun!

We have Emma and Marshall, he’s a rancher just barely living his life in his ranch with his family; and she’s a lost girl he and his brother find after a car accident.

To say she’s intriguing is putting it lightly, guys. She’s kind and lovely and overall a mysterious woman. I loved Emma like whoa, and the paranormal aspect of this was great. Obviously I can’t tell, but it weaves perfectly with the mystery of her and bad guys and all the action that happens here.

I loved this, and it was more than I was expecting. I hope the author continues with this, ‘cause it would make a fun series.

I've read several books with characters who had endured abuse. Devil's Way Out probably came closer to the actual mindset of a victim than any others.
The Hero carries guilt and pain over a previous loss he suffered.
The heroine has been abused and kept locked up for years.
This was a good book although it was difficult to read at times.

when emmaline katz ends up in absolution, montana in devil's way out she has no idea that she's found her home. on the run from a monster who has kept her hostage since she was a teenager, she can't trust anyone with her truth because there's no telling who it puts in more danger.

marshall boyer doesn't expect to be enchanted by the disheveled young woman he pulls out of the river. but from the moment he meets her there is connection. he has the sense that he knows her, that there is something between them that feels unnameable in that moment.

as the danger surrounding emma comes to absolution, marshall learns more about what makes this woman special, and what makes her his dream come true. the suspense and emotional depth of the story lend it the right amount of weight to balance some of the more mystical elements.

**devil's way out will publish on june 24, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my honest review.

Wow. I absolutely loved this book. There was mystery, suspense, tragedy, suffering and healing and romance. All these things combined to make a fantastic page turner. Honestly I hadn’t heard of this author before but I’m definitely going to be checking out her other books after the way this one captured me and kept me up reading all night.

The characters were realistic and lovable, the town was charming and each of the side characters brought more life into it. It did start off a little slow but stick with it, it gets really amazing and draws you in.

Devil’s Way Out by Nika Dixon

I loved, loved, LOVED this book. It had so much to offer! There was a woman on the run, her mysterious past, her drawing skill, men and animals that seemed taken with her, an evil man chasing her and another man that might be her safe place to land.

I loved Emmaline, the woman on the run...everything about her resonated with me. I was so hoping she would find a happy ending after so much time in a horrible situation. She was a very special person. I loved the animals that fell for her and would do literally anything to keep her safe. The Boyer brothers and their father – stalwart and true blue through and through. I would love to hear more about Sheriff Danny Boyer and also about the men that are in his department...Sam and Bailey might need stories of their own along with Danny. Evil Alan so deserved to be thwarted and I couldn’t wait to see how it would happen...and I was not disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to read more by this author – first book I have read by her but it won’t be the last.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I received a copy of “Devil’s Way Out” by Nika Dixon from my friends at Net Galley. I haven’t read anything by Dixon in the past but I have received copies of other ARCs from Entangled Publishing.

I really enjoyed this read and I’ll start with some of the basics that everyone looks for in a read. Grammatically, I did not see any errors and if there were editing issues I was not able to locate them. Often times, if a book has a multitude of spelling mistakes it can take away from the narrative, but it certainly wasn’t the case here. The cover of the book is great and it clearly reflects the content of the book. Although you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, this cover was pretty amazing.

The story has romance, mystery, action and some supernatural aspects. So.. Let's get down to business. The main character is Emmaline who ends up mysteriously in rural Montana after hitching a ride with Georgie - a local residence who has some dementia and is known for getting into trouble when she leaves her assisted living residence. Georgie crashed a stolen car into a creek and as a result the local Sheriff Danny Boyer and his brother, Marshall respond. Marshall find Emma and they take her to the Doc for treatment.

It comes to light that Emma left where ever she came from with nothing. No money. No ID. No shoes. She is sent to stay with the Sheriff and his family until she is able to get out of town. Her internal dialogue addresses her fear of a character named Alan, but we don’t find out her past until later in the book. Marshall is intrigued by Emma and her ability to draw amazing sketches.

Eventually, it becomes noticed that Emma's behaviours are similar to those of a woman who has experienced significant abuse. But it isn’t until an FBI agent shows at the Sheriffs office with a photo of Emma that the connection is made to Allan. Emma had been held captive by Allan (major bad guy) since she was 15 years old. He recognized that she had the gift of sight and that she drew photos of the future or of people’s secrets. Allan would use the sketches to blackmail them into working for him. Emma has witnessed the deaths of numerous people who have tried to help her over the years, but it isn’t until a car bomb that happens on a rare occasion when she is out in the world that she has the opportunity to flee.

Emma discloses everything to Marshall and Danny when confronted with the FBI’s information. At this point, Marshall and Emma have developed feelings for each other but Marshall is struggling with the death of his last girlfriend who over dosed. Emma and Marshall flee to another ranch house on the property until one of Allan’s men are caught. During this secluded vacay, things get heated between the two. Bow chicka wow wow.

Unfortunately Allan tracks her down and she becomes aware that he has taken Lucy, Danny’s daughter hostage. Emma sacrifices herself to ensure that Lucy stays safe. Allan demands that she draw his future and then he sets the barn on fire with Lucy and Emma tied up I inside. Emma gets Lucy out and Lucy finds her father in the tree line. When Emma gets out of the barn, Allan is there waiting for her. He drags her to a hilltop and is prepared to shoot her. But, Emma's connection with animals comes to help and a rogue stallion named Devil, who Emma befriended rushes to her aid and bashes Allan’s head in.

Of course this story has a HEA with Marshall proposing to Emma after she has been gone from the ranch for three weeks. I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to more! I hope that Nika intends to write about Danny and Sam’s adventures in the future.

Five stars from us! We loved it and would recommend!

Rancher, Marshall Boyer is still angry over the death of the woman he loved and wants nothing to do with woman or love, but when a mysterious woman drops into his life, barefoot, broke and running scared, he can’t let her go. Emmaline Katz is an artist with a dangerous secret and she’s on the run from a ruthless criminal who exploited her for years. Out of money and options, she finds an unlikely have with a handsome cowboy but time is running out and cold-blooded killer has to come town.

This story is an amazing love story with some unique elements that really makes it stand out. Marshall and Emma has some seriously electrical chemistry but have some seriously gut wrenching emotional angst that has them holding back from each other and readers really can’t help but become caught up in their lives as this hero and heroine captures their hearts. The overwhelming innocence and courage of the heroine also causes readers to shed a few tears so have plenty of tissues nearby but don’t worry, Marshall’s protection and growing attraction for Emma balances everything out very nicely producing smiles.

The suspense builds throughout this fast paced and keeps readers glued to the pages with lots of excitement and hair raising chills as more of Emma’s life comes to light. The author also gave the heroine a refreshingly different psychic gift that adds spice and variety to the story as well as upping the danger and thrills. This story is one that engages readers from the very beginning and then dares them to put the book down.

Devil's Way Out by Nika Dixon is currently scheduled for release on June 24 2019. Still angry over the death of the woman he loved, rancher Marshall Boyer wants nothing to do with women or love. But when the mysterious Emma drops into his life—barefoot, broke, and running scared—he can’t let her go. Artist Emmaline Katz has a dangerous secret. After escaping a ruthless criminal who exploited her for years, her quest for freedom crashes to a halt in rural Montana. Out of money and options, she finds an unlikely haven with a handsome cowboy. But no matter how much she wants to believe his offer of protection, he doesn’t know the truth about her, her secret, or the man who will stop at nothing to get her back. Time is running out. A cold-blooded killer has come to town, and Emma isn’t the only target.

Devil's Way Out was an engaging read, and I really liked the characters and how the story was revealed. Marshall is a strong man struggling with starting over after a less than stellar ending to a relationship. Emma is running from much more than a bad break up.I like that both characters have a strong will but are damaged emotional from past mistakes and trauma. Nether is perfect, or pitiful, and they manage to save each other even though they both fought it and feared the outcome every step along the way. I love seeing genuinely good characters find a happy ending despite bad experiences, and that is exactly what happens here. I am rather hoping that Dixon writes happy endings for more of the characters in this small town, because I am just as interested in what happens to the rest of the family and town next, and in seeing Marshall and Emma continue on their path.

Devil's Way Out is a contemporary romance with heart and danger balanced nicely. I enjoyed the read and will be looking for more from the author.

Fabulous characters, a few laughs, a sweet and sexy romance, danger and suspense. Right from the opening scene you know this is going to be an intriguing story with a lovely young woman and her handsome cowboy rescuer. Emma is running from a troubled past and deadly criminals when she lands in small town Montana with wonderful residents and country values that demand coming to her rescue. The town’s folks are terrific along with the fantastic Boyer family. The slow build romance between Emma and the strong & steady Marshall is swoon worthy and turns steamy. Emma has a talent that is unexplainable and for some will be a non starter but I liked it. Parts went a little far and takes a suspension of firm reality to really enjoy the story. I love the writing and the beautiful pictures this author painted with her words. I can’t wait for the next story in this series and hope daddy Hank get his own. I voluntarily reviewed an NetGalley ARC.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Entangled Published via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This author is new to me and I just have to say that I so thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was just so much going on that I couldn't put it down. The last 15 years for Emmaline (Emma) had been so difficult. She escaped her life in the city and along the way ended up in Absolution. Marshall rescues her from a ditch. Marshall has returned to the family ranch after being away for a year. He came back heartbroken. These two come together in a wonderful tale that is just filled with heartbreak and tears. Their journey is filled with mad-man, an arsonist, a love-sick horse (and a dog and cat) and Emma's special gift.

The characters were well developed and the story was intriguing. I adored the dual POV format. I understood both characters a lot better with this kind of format. The secondary characters were fascinating as well. I hope there are more stories to be had in Absolution (especially Danny's and Sam's)

I highly recommend this story to anyone over 18+. There is a bedroom scene, that while not overly graphic, it may be offensive to some.

DEVIL’S WAY OUT will draw you in quite easily to a well-layered story with some totally unexpected twists along the way. While this is definitely a Modern Western Romance with Romantic Suspense aspects to it – there is also just enough of a touch of the Paranormal Romance genre to grab my attention quite firmly.

This is also an emotional story on several levels as you get Emma’s backstory, slowly over time, and come to understand the horrors she’s been through to get to the point of finding Marshall and this quirky small town that offers her refuge and hope for the future. I loved Emma’s “gift” as well as her talent for bringing her art to life. I’d also love to talk about Emma more, but that would involve spoilers and you really should read DEVIL’S WAY OUT for yourself to get the impact of certain twists and events.

I believed Marshall and Emma as a couple, and that is important to my enjoyment of any genre of Romance. There is definitely danger in this story, there is also hope, love, some sexy chemistry, definitely quirky residents of this small town and secondary characters that I can only hope get their own tales told one day. I was easily caught up in this story, didn’t want it to end, and would gladly recommend it to any reader who loves a good Romance with a few unexpected twists.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

This was such an amazing, surprising read - absolutely enthralling and fascinating so I can't recommend it highly enough. It is brilliant, with elements of kidnapping, mobsters, small town families, art and even paranormal ingredients so carefully mixed to produce this delicious recipe for a totally unputdownable read.

The characters are well developed, there are some fun parts to bring a smile to your face but there's also plenty of intrigue and suspense to keep you guessing. The romance is slow to develop but all the better for it. The animals, including the Pistachio the horse who has the nicknamed the Devil, also have key roles to play. This is definitely a story I don't want to give spoilers away to, let it be enough to say this is a well written, carefully crafted story by a new-to-me author who I'll definitely be looking out for in future!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

I couldn’t get into this one. The blurb about it sounded very promising, but it just wasn’t something I could get into. Maybe it was too unrealistic for me... I’m not sure. Might be the book for you though.

A fabulous romantic suspense Devil's Way Out has humour, mystery, uniqueness and love. I loved the characters and the well delivered storyline. I hope this is the start of a series because it has a wonderful support cast who I would like to know more about. I will be recommending and looking to read more by this new to me author.

This is my first read from Nika Dixon and it was a stunner! Everything you would want from a story tucked neatly into a hypnotic plot and insanely well written characters. The story unfolds slowly as we get a glimpse into the life of Emma who is on the run, wearing no shoes and only the clothes on her back and how she ended up in the aptly named town, Absolution. When she meets this tiny towns well known pleasantly demented woman who can hot wire a car by the way, thinking she's getting a ride, the two get into an accident and that's when she meets Marshall Boyer who finds her in the mud, cold and wet with a bad knock on the head. He takes her to see Doc, a quiet gentle man who gives her a look over, hands her some clothes, sends her off for a meal with Marshall. Emma lies about her name, she's running from a life spent locked away in a penthouse and we only find out how deep this finely woven backstory unfolds and we move forward through the book. Marshall is dealing with his own demons, a love lost one he's not quite sure what to do with. Since Emma has no place to go he takes her home to his family ranch. The Boyer's all live under the same roof, father Hank, his brother Danny who is the town sheriff and his young daughter and Marshall. Emma isn't used to small town kindness. The family isn't used to having not only such a mysterious woman among them, but one who possesses a few unusual talents, the uncanny ability to draw animals to her, even the ranch's isolated horse deemed Devil because he's already injured a couple ranch hands. Not so with Emma who totally relates to the beast. Her innate gift of drawing and being an artist we also watch unfold and her special gift makes her invaluable to the man she's run from. She understands and has seen what he's capable of and fears not only for herself but also for those around her. We also watch the relationship with Marshall and Emma unfold which is anything but tidy and again, written so well. We meet Danny's friend and deputy Sam and several other characters that I hope we get to visit again in another story from this author. When Emma's fear starts to become reality, the book rolls through the events with perfect timing and a couple of breath holding minutes. Again, surprises abound in this book, and man she threw me for the perfect curve with her rescue operation.
Well done Nika Dixon, well done!

While Devil's Way Out may have been my first read by Nika Dixon, it will definitely not be my last. This is a story packed with creative writing and fabulous world building that draws the reader in from the very beginning. And while the chemistry between Marshall and Emma is undeniable; there is also an intense emotional aspect to this intriguing and totally addictive read. I truly hope this is only the first book about the residents of Absolution, MT, as the author has paved the way for so many more characters to have their own books. Contemporary romance, with a small town flare and just a touch of the paranormal too; I was in reader heaven!
