A fun read, If the Shoe Fits was well written and quite enjoyed the illustrations. I highly recommend this book.

We love reimagined and twisted fairy tales and this one is really cute. *If the Shoe Fits* written by Deborah Guarino, (the author of Is Your Mama a Llama) retells the story of Cinderella—from a surprising perspective.

With a lovestruck shoemaker, an extra glass slipper and a crazy scheme, it’s a very different Cinderella. My kids and I enjoyed the characters, the witty rhyme schemes. •
This silly tale, with gorgeous illustrations by Seth Hippen, will be released this November.

We received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What we love about this book:
• A new perspective on an old tale
• Whimsical, rhyming narration
• Wonderful illustrations

If the Shoe Fits is about a cobbler who is asked to design the glass slippers Cinderella wears to the ball. However, he is secretly in love with a woman who wishes to win the prince's love. Will Prince Charming find the right one? Will Murray finally find true love? I am always a fan of a twisted fairytale and I thought this one was charming and funny. I did think it was a little long-winded at times, as some other reviewers pointed out, but overall it was fun and the illustrations are colorful and cartoonish.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

I'm a big fan of fairy tale retellings in general, especially when it looks at a familiar story from a new perspective. I'm not sure this one really worked for me though. FOr one thing, it rhymes. Rhyming picture books can really be a struggle. The focus is on the rhyme rather than the plot.

Charming and beautifully illustrated picture-book retelling of Cinderella. It was fun to read to myself, but as it is written in rhyme, it really pays to read it out loud,

So who made those snazzy glass slippers, anyway? When Cinderella’s oh-so-famous fairy godmother’s magic runs out before she produces slippers, she knows right where to turn. Why Murray, the shoemaker, of course.

Though Murray offers satin, silk and lace shoes, none of those will do. The fairy needs a rare pair . . . slippers light and transparent. Not a problem. This request is easily made possible by fetching a pair of size five glass slippers from the back of the store. The fairy godmother is off with the promise of paying Murray with a magic spell. She just needs her magic to recharge.

Enters Mona, the clerk at the shoe store. Oh, did I mention that Murray the owner is totally smitten by his clerk, Mona? There’s only one problem. He’s a tad too shy to let his feelings be known.

Well, on with the story. Mona, the clerk, has always been convinced that she is destined to marry a prince. And when she tells Murray that the prince was left holding one glass slipper as he was about to propose marriage, she ends by asking him to do a favor for her.

Can you guess what she might ask of the dear shoemaker? Will Murray be able to grant his secret love her wish?

My thanks to #Netgalley and Schiffer Publishing for a copy of #IfTheShoeFits This #bookreview is my opinion.

What Concerned Me:
When I read this silently I had trouble with the rhyming element of the text. But when I read it aloud a second time, I had no trouble.
Because I usually don’t slow down long enough to really take in the illustrations, I missed something the first time through. I also missed it in the text. Without having to issue a spoiler alert, this story has nothing to do with beauty vs. the not-so-beautiful.
In summary, #1 and #2 were concerns, but if you read through them, they turned out to be non-concerns!

3. Due to the vocabulary, I’m not sure who the target group is, though the publisher has this book listed as an Early Reader. I can imagine a teacher reading this to an older group, but I feel some of the words will need explaining: beguiling, demented, preened. And even with this concern, it can be an opportunity to learn.

What I Liked Best:
The rhyming text and illustrations work together to easily sell the book. I have to admit, the more I read it the more I loved it. There can be lots of discussion points or a story just for enjoyment.

It’s a fun book that most will want to add to their libraries!

*received from netgalley for honest review* So, first off, I like the art in this book very detailed and I like the idea of the story but im not sure how I feel about the book as a whole. The ending did change things which is why its still getting 5 stars, Would still read to kids but probably older ones.

This original version of Cinderella has charm. Murray, the shoemaker, is in love with his employee, Mona, who is determined to marry the Prince, despite her size 9 feet. Wanting Mona to be happy, Murray creates a large glass slipper so she can falsely claim the Prince. However, a fairy regains her magic and puts a stop to the nonsense -- and jumpstarts real love. The text rhymes skillfully, but I'm not sure who the intended audience is - many words, such as "demented" and "beguiling" seem hard for children ages 10 or under. In addition, the illustrations look cartoonish, as if they were designed for an animated movie rather than a book. All that said, the love story is creative, and one cannot help rooting for Murray. This book may inspire children to invent their own versions of Cinderella.

I loved this story! A retelling of the classic cinderella, but without really telling about cinderella. This story follows the shoe maker who made the shoes for the fairy godmother to give to cinderella. However what would have happened if that shoemaker made another identical shoe in a bigger size? Not just for fun or anything, but for the girl of his dreams? Find out in this story full of true love, hijinks and what happens behind the scenes of your favorite fairy tales.

Books are critically important in our family – the saying around here goes, “I am always willing to spend money on books and Legos.” As a refresher, MyChild is 7-years-old, in second grade, reads on her own, and her current favorite books to read are the DogMan series and Pig the Pug.

Book Review
Mom: I have gone on the record a few times on how much I enjoy retellings of classic stories. This new story, which runs parallel to the Cinderella story we all know so well, was hilarious and adorable. I loved it!

MyChild: I thought it was funny how the Fairy Godmother needed to go shopping when her magic didn’t work.

Mom: Adding in a new love story, while keeping true to the original story, was a great way to make this an interesting twisted tale and not just another repetitious retelling.

MyChild: My favorite part was when the prince almost got married to the wrong person.

Mom: I also highly praise the author for focusing the story on learning to recognize the amazing things you have – not just always wishing for things you don’t have. Such a good learning moment for everyone!

This is a lovely variation on Cinderella. If the famous glass slipper was made by a shoemaker and not the fairy godmother, than the shoe could be replicated. And so the shoemaker makes another glass slipper for a different girl, and so the prince is stuck with a bride who is definitely not Cinderella!

The story is told in rhyme, which is great! The language is mostly simple, but there are opportunities to learn new vocabulary. The lines are a bit long, so unless the child is super into the story, I might hold off until the child is maybe 4 or 5.

The only problem with picture books from NetGalley is that they don’t translate very well to the Kindle app on my phone. Things don’t really line up quite right, which is unfortunate. I’m not sure if that’s all picture books on the Kindle app, or just files from NetGalley. Looking at the sample pages on Amazon makes me more excited for the real book! The artwork is much more detailed than you can see on the phone. Even on the smaller phone pictures, you can tell that the illustrations are nice. The artwork on Mona’s hair stands out - it almost looks real, like they took a picture of hair and incorporated it into the illustration somehow.

This book is wonderful. I love the deeper story it gives and the twist on the classic tale. The imagery is well done. There’s nothing I would change about this book. I think everyone should read it!

If the Shoe Fits, by Deborah Guarino, is a really fun twist on Cinderella. It is a delightful story about what would’ve happened if the wrong maiden fit into the glass slipper. I love fairy tale retellings and this one is a hit! The illustrations are bright and appealing! The story is told in rhyme which will make it a great read aloud. If the Shoe Fits would make a great addition to all libraries-home, school, and public!

If the Shoe Fits by Deborah Guarino – This is a great Cinderella story, except from the town shoemaker’s perspective. The illustrations are great and this is a must for any fan of fairy tale retellings. One of my favorite things in a story time book is if it rhythms, making this a perfect story time book. This book releases November 28, 2019.

An interesting twist on the classic Cinderella story. I really liked how this took a different look at the story and made Cinderella and her prince secondary characters. Focusing on a different point of view really makes it a fresh take on a classic story. I recommend this one to read to the little ones that love Cinderella's story. Or for those that like to see twists of their favorite stories.

What would you do for true love? Buy her diamonds? Chocolate? Commit counterfeit with a glass shoe? We all know the story of Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother, but what if you found out that making the gown, the carriage, the horses, and the crown used up all of the Fairy Godmother's magic. She didn't have any more magic to make spectacular shoes so she went to visit Murray, the local shoemaker. This is some behind the scenes information that only Murray and the FG knew about, that is until Mona rushed into work exclaiming about how the prince fell in love at the ball and is now looking for the girl in the glass slipper. Well, it was always Mona's dream to marry the prince and when she found out Murray had made the glass shoes, she devised a plan to make a counterfeit shoe. Murray was so in love with Mona that he would do whatever it took to make her happy, including shoe fraud. Will Mona's plan work? Will she finally get to marry the prince of her dreams? Will Murray lose the love of his life just to make her happy? You must read to find out!!

This is a must have for any library!!! This is one of the cutest fractured fairy tales that I have ever read. The rhyming verses are laugh out loud funny at times and the illustrations are simply incredible. Do not miss this one!!

I love fairy tale retelling. This was a fun perspective but was sometimes too wordy. I think kids will love it though.

A cute little twist on the Cinderella story. This picture book version focuses on the shoemaker who made the glass slipper. Enough of a twist to interest young readers already familiar with the original story and with a combination of bright illustrations and rhyming narrative this would make a nice little book to read aloud with children.
