My thoughts 3.5 Stars

Everly is continuing to chase after Prince Killian. She’s out to get revenge and to retrieve the sword of Avelyn. This time she will journey to different lands. She discovers more secrets. Everly is in denial with her feelings for her husband. She continues to tell herself that a clock heart cannot love. She also learns how her ticker was created and how it gives her life. You will also find out why her ticker is slowly losing its “life”.
Killian is not my favorite. He’s seems to always two steps in front of Everly. You do learn more about him and his background. He’s very mischievous and evil. I always have a love hate relationship with Killian.
Jamison is Everly’s husband. Jamison and Everly’s relationship start to grow more in this story and honestly, it’s the cutest thing in the world. The affection they have for each other bloom’s and they learn more about each other.

So many new characters in this story. Radella is a sassy little pixie that helps Everly throughout the story. She has this fun little way of herself that I adore. Her character makes me laugh from time to time. Merrows aka Mermaids are not someone I would like to cross. I love mermaids but they do not like humans. I will say that the merrow king will do anything for his kids. Some other characters are the giant whale is one of me least liked characters. He’s very odd and jumps to conclusions before the explanation. Elves are not the nicest people either. They turn of Everly and soon chase her. A sea hag! She is a very interesting person. She’s human but has lived for hundreds of years by “helping” people in return she wants a section of your life. She has “helped” very many people, which is talked about because of the wall of names. You will learn more about it in the story. Just a few more to name are pirates and giants.

I really enjoyed this book. I look forward to finding out what happens next for Everly and Killian. I’m hopping she will find peace and love with Jamison.

Finishing the second book in this series has gotten me out of the biggest reading slump ever! I started reading this book back in August then put it down only to pick it up again a few days ago.
This time we see Everley still trying to keep her biggest secret while also protecting all those around her. I was very happy to see a certain feisty pixie make a return in this book too.

I prefered this book to the first book in the series, for me it read more smoothly and it didn't drag as the first one did. We get to see Everley grow in herself and her friendships, learning who she can trust and who she should never trust. Even your enemy's face may conceal who they really are. Gaining new allies will help Everley with the insurmountable task of recovering her sword from the people beneath the sea, how will she reach the bottom of the sea when she needs to breathe?

Time is running out for Everley will Father time help her and her friends or let her work out her destiny for herself? Will she be able to clear her name and live a normal life or will she be a fugitive for the rest of her life?

It has taken me so long to pick this book back up that I totally missed that the next book in the series is out now. I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens to Everley next.

Into the Hourglass is the second book in The Evermore Chronicles trilogy. The story takes place a few months after ending to Before the Broken Star and we find Everley trying to find Prince Killian and the sword of Avelyn. This story takes Everley and her friends into the Land Under the Wave, where they meet new friends and new foes. Prince Killian always seems to manage to be one step ahead of them, but that doesn't stop Everley and her crew from tracking him down through the worlds. It's a race against time for Everley whose clock heart is slowing down by the day, and whose past will come back with unsolved questions and unwanted answers.

I don't know if it's because there is less world building, or because the storyline is so intriguing but I loved this book more than the last. Everley knows her time is slowing down and her clock work heart might not last much longer. Faced with multiple decisions, Everley must decide what her next move is, and how she'll survive going into the Land Under the Wave. This book was non stop action from the beginning and had me hooked. I couldn't wait to see what trick lay ahead set by Prince Killian, and how far Everley could push her heart to get where she wanted to go. I will say the ending almost killed me with emotions, but I can't wait to read the conclusion in the next book.

I received a review copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this book without reading the first book of the series. I definitely recommend the first book though. But being me, that's okay because it enjoyed the book either way.
I LOVE adventure books and this is definitely one of them. This is meant for younger audiences but I still really enjoyed it quite a bit. I love Everley's character.

What a second edition to this series! I honestly wasn't too sure how it was going to go but I was blown away by it. Once I started the book I honestly could not stop. One of my favorite things about Emily is her world building - and this series has been no exceptions. She had already provided us with such a rich world and culture but then dives (no pun intended) even more into this new world. Everything blended so well and really complimented each other. I was definitely surprised by some of the events that were revealed. I definitely can't wait to continue this book.

Everley again is amazing. I love her character where she is so strong and independent but not in an annoying way. Sometimes characters come off too forced with their independence but Everley is done so well. While she was the main focus in the first book as well, I felt like we got more of her in this book. And while more of her personality was revealed, so was more of her past. The way her story is developing is definitely in the right direction.

I found this difficult to get into at first, but I quickly realized that this was the second book in the series. I really enjoyed the adventure and the plot in this novel!

I can't wait for the next book. I love to read Fantasy books that play with time or have a different time structure in their stories and this series does that well. The angst!!

Into the Hourglass was such a great sequel to the original book in the series by Emily R. King and I am stoked to be able to read more from her. The plot begins about several months after the ending of the first book and just picks up speed from there like a bullet train. Everley continues her to avenge the deaths of her family with Prince Killian in her eyesight and I am so happy that she decides to do this because I could just kill Killian myself.

The first book made me a stage five clinger and this sequel has just made it worse. The storytelling and the character development is one of my favorites. I have not quite seen as much development in other books and this makes me extremely happy. My students would click with these characters very well and I believe it would be a book that is read many, many times. It holds the attention of even me who gets distracted so easily and that is exactly what books need these days. If it can get the attention of those obsessed with technology, it is going to be spectacular.

I will happily give Emily 4-5 stars anytime that I read her books. I did read the Hundredth Queen so I will continue to read everything she sends out and whenever she sends it out into the world.

I really enjoyed this installment of the series! It was a great book two! The action was exciting, the character development was great, and the world building was beautiful!

I loved the Little Mermaid and Peter Pan influences that were sprinkled in. It made a fun book even more enjoyable to read!

Emily R. King is fast becoming one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to read both the conclusion to this series and whatever she decides to put out next!

Oh my goodness! I loved everything about this Adventrure Rollercoaster! I love that it's a mashup of Pinocchio, Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan. It was so much fun and I can't wait for the next one!!

Everley Donovan has been kept alive by a clock heart for 10 years, since the murders of her family by a centuries-old prince named Killian Markham. In Before the Broken Star, she had hoped to kill him but found out by sad experience that he was immortal. She witnessed Killian’s blithe destruction of a whole world, one of the seven made in the beginning by the creator spoken of in legends, and learned that she must retrieve the sword of Avelyn that the prince stole.

Now, in Into the Hourglass, she and some crewmates from the ship that had transported them to Dagger Island go after Killian, who escaped to the Land Under the Wave. They face an almost impossible task — that world is full of dangerous creatures and plenty of water that would damage her clock heart, and Everley is realizing that her borrowed time may be coming to an end. But even as she feels fragile and completely not up to the task given her, she knows that the fate of all the worlds lies on her shoulders. The evil prince will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and he seems to always be a few steps ahead of Everley and her small group of friends.

This sequel to the first book in the series is full of adventure, fanciful creatures, dastardly villains, heroes who do the best they can despite their weaknesses, allusions to various fairy tales and a bit of romance. Everley is a heroine who feels she is frail and who has faced a lot of heartbreak. She’s given an important role to play in saving the world but is only told just enough here and there by the legendary Father Time (and some of his helpers) to do what she needs to do. She doesn’t know the big picture. She is a protagonist anyone can relate to.

I’ve enjoyed the series so far but it’s not the amazing, compelling story that will make me mark my calendar for the next installment; it’s one of those that if I wait long enough, I may forget and never get back to when the next book does come out. So we will see what happens.

I didn't realize this was the second book in a series until I started reading it. That being said, I still enjoyed the story and the characters and I will be going back and reading the first one while I'm waiting for the next one.

This was a tough one to rate. On one hand, I was thoroughly invested in these characters and what was going to happen to Everly and her clock heart. And if her and Jamison would ever get their chance to be together. But on the other hand there was so much that just dragged on and on. It felt like an ode to Peter Pan with evil pirates and pet alligators their pixie friend helping them along the way. But it also felt like the whole time traveling situation was a bit confusing at some parts. There is just way too much history and past to try and explain within the pages of one book. And those are the parts that I felt tended to drag on and the explanations got a bit too lengthy to keep my attention.
I do love the lush descriptions of the different worlds and the characters are fantastic. I was all there for the love stories and the budding relationships that were built throughout the books. Other than getting hung up on the lessons of history among the characters, this is a pretty fast paced book that covers a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Once I was able to slog through the info dump, I was happy that the rest of the story picked up pace.
I am interested to see how this series ends after getting to this point, so I will continue on with the series, but I will say that I was more interested in the first book than this installment. Maybe the third will change my mind.
Thank you for this opportunity to read and review this book!

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed reading this. An interesting story with fun characters. Well written.

The newest series, the Evermore Chronicles, by Emily R. King is even better than her Hundredth Queen series, and that’s saying a lot! This fantastic fantasy series features a strong female protagonist in a rich fantasy realm of seven worlds. This series will appeal to fans of Cinda Williams Chima and Sabaa Tahir. They won’t be able to put it down!

3.5/5 Solid novel, was fun and such, but again I think my expectations for this novel were different so I wasnt as hooked as I was with her other series. I mean the idea and concept, and the world is so unique and different, which is a big plus in this series for me. I liked the main character, and the angst in the romance got me hooked so hard but I am still really interested in finding out where the series will take us in the future book or books! Highly recommend checking Emily R King out! I think she is a great writer, just sadly this one fell a bit flat for me this time around!

I will read anything ERK writes. A great sequel in this series. Everything she writes is so put together and backed up with real research. I cannot wait for the next one!

This one picks up right where book one ends, so don't read it without having read Before the Broken Star because you won't understand much - and you will miss out on some pretty awesome things.

So without spoiling Into the Hourglass I'll say this: it has The Little Mermaid feels to it, along with some Peter Pan - which I kind of got toward the end of book one.

Are you humming Under the Sea yet?

Jokes aside, it really is another adventure; one against time because of you-know-what regarding Everley - and they have to fight the bad guys and come to terms with many things, including that falling in love is possible.

I want to say that I loved the message this book was sending out. Everley has always felt broken; different from others and knew she would be rejected because of this difference. I'm pretty sure many of us have experienced this - or are still experiencing this - at one point in our lives. I managed to connect with Everley more in this book because of this.

Now, where is a Jamison when you need one? Because really, he's pretty darn perfect. I could write an ode but I won't. I really loved the ending of this book and how things were left. Am really looking forward to reading the final one.

I definitely recommend this author's books. I voluntarily agreed to read an early copy via Netgalley and my rating is 4.5 - 5 stars.

I actually think that I enjoyed this sequel even more than the first book in the Evermore Chronicles! In part, because I really enjoyed the new setting - all of the time at sea and the oceanic creatures - and other magical elements (giants, elves, marrows, mermaids). More of Everley's past becomes clear here, too - and the relationships continue to develop which makes Everley and even more sympathetic character.

I thought that the plot was action-paced - even more so than the first book. But, this one definitely feels a little less complete because of how it ends. I appreciate a good cliffhanger, but I am quite anxious for the third installment! I am really interested to see what Markham plans next. I am definitely curious, that's for sure! And King has left plenty of signs open for what may come to pass in the third book. There were a few continuity things that I noticed, but, really this was a strong sequel and I think that this is building up to an even more exciting conclusion!

I really liked Into the Hourglass - the land under the sea was a fun one to venture to and removed some of the characters who were lagging a bit in the first book.

I did feel that in places things slot in too easily (one problem at a time etc) but honestly it’s good fun to read so it’s hard to begrudge that too much.

I really liked Everley coming a bit more into her own here, even if Markham (and Harlow) became more frustrating and a little two dimensional. And Laverick and Claret are just wonderful.

Overall, this easily gets 3.5 stars and I’m looking forward to the next instalment!
