I really wanted to love this book as much as the first one in the series, but it was just okay. I had no problem putting it down.. There is a lot of information to keep up with between all the worlds and creation stories. And maybe that would have been worth it if the main character would have been more likable. All that said, the ending was good enough to make me want to read book 3 to see what happens.

Thank you to netgalley for free arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was just barely passable for me. I slogged my way through it and the ending was pretty good but the 1st 90% was not good. It was just too much information and too hard to keep up with. I didn't really care for Evie at all. She wasn't very likeable. This book was so not good that, and this has happened only once or twice, I'm not sure I will read the last book in the series. My first thought when I was through was "finally!" and that sums up all you need to know.

Thank you to netgalley for my free arc and honest review.

Having read the first book I think this series, I was eager to catch up with the characters to see what was going to happen in Into the Hourglass. I loved this one. It had so much happening, and plenty to keep my interest from start to finish. The premise of this series is really interesting, a girl with a clock heart, and I was eager to see what would happen to Evie on her mission in this second book. I couldn’t put it down, and I really want to read more books in this world!

This book was EVERYTHING and I loved every single word, every single sentence in it.
It was a worthy Sequel and even more rushing and exciting than the first one. We got more darkness, more heartbreaking story and more Jamison, and that's what we are here for right?

The plot of the second book was really surprising and never boring, I just skimmed from page to page to get to know if Evie can rescue her world, and the other six worlds, just by following Markham through room and time. I hurried to get to know what will happen between her and Jamison, and to dive into all the secrets everyone has. The story often had twists and turns that left me speechless and sometimes in tears and that's what good book is made of!

The girl with the clockwork heart is such a unique and special character. She is cold and cunning, but also a little bean who would do everything for those she loves - if a girl without a heart even can love anyone. I loved what the author did here and how well thought through the worlds and the characters were. The whole story felt like a big adventure through several Tales and Worlds and I got all I need ion a fantasy stories.I have female pirates, seer queens, queer girls, a clockwork heart, Father Time, merrows and Pixies and everything magical. I LOVED IT.

The book is coming out on the 20th August and you should totally note that in your calendar!

Great book, Emily continues to be a fantastic writer. The story continues well from the previous book, but you could pick it up without reading the first. It recaps without being patronizing, a great YA read.

Excited for the next one, want to see how this will end! Go Evie!!

I love this series! When I discovered the second one was on Netgalley (and on READ NOW of all things) I was ecstatic! Emily R. King really knows how to set up a series. I loved The Hundredth Queen series and I'm glad she wrote more, especially using such an interesting idea.

The first book was so good that I was hesitant to read the second one. With the Hundredth Queen, I loved the first two books, but I found it got a little too serious nearer the end of the series which I wasn't as interested in (still read them all though!). So I was a little worried that the second one of this series wouldn't be as good, but it definitely was! I love how the characters have developed, the reveals, and the twists and turns of the book. Prince Killian is still a slippery character, and the conflicting feelings you already have are only amplified by this book.

We seem to be exploring a new world in each of the books, so I'm very interested to see how it rounds up in book number 3. I really liked the 'Land Under the Sea' and all the different creatures we met along the way. Evie's relationships develop further, and it really shows a lovely character arc from the beginning of the first book. She's starting to understand what's important.

I also like that we are thrown straight into the action with this one. In the first book, we needed the slow build up in order to understand why she is the way she is, as well as introducing all the characters and the world. Now, King was able to start with the present story straight away, and I like how she's built upon the knowledge she instilled on us in the first book. Can't wait to see where it goes next!

4/5 stars.

Just like the first one, I love the concept of this book. It’s like a mixture of all my favourite fairy tales in one book. I think the idea of Father Time is so different than anything else I’ve read. I do wish that some of the chapters were longer. Like I would have loved more to happen in the Everblue. Otherwise great and excited to read the third

I enjoyed this book so much. The only thing I hate is the fact that I'll have to wait until December for the last book. Second books in a series always seem to fall flat for me and do not have as much adventure as the first book. Emily doesn't have this problem with her second books. Into the Hourglass had just as much if not more adventure, intrigue, and "oh, wow" moments as Before the Broken Star. I love Everley even more now that I've learned more about her and what drives her. She wants to do what's right and she wants to find love and live a long, happy life. She wants a life where she's not handicapped by a disability and I can understand that fully. There are things she just can't do but she is adept at doing what she can and finding ways around her handicap. I loved Jamison in this book. He still was Everley's conscious but he still let her make decisions and didn't try to stifle her in anyway. It was clear that their love and appreciation grew for each other despite how the first book ended. I came to like Laverick and Claret more in this book. I guess in the first one they were really minor characters who kind of faded to the background when they weren't mentioned but they became more prominent in Into the Hourglass and they became even better friends to Everley and Jamison in this one. I also loved Radella. She was one feisty pixie who had a way of making her feelings known even though they didn't understand her language. Osric was a new face that I ended up liking and trusting. He was a nice ally for Everley to make and he seemed genuine in helping her in her quest to get her sword back.

Markham needs to be swallowed by a whale and actually digested. He is an awful being who you think can't get any worse, but always proves you wrong in the end. In addition to Markham there were some more bad guys that showed up, giants and sorcerers and even the queen turned out to be pretty horrible. I loved how well they were portrayed. Even though all of them were bad they had backstories and we're two dimensional.

We get to go to a new world in Into the Hourglass and I'm always a sucker for water worlds so it was fun to see the merrows, selkies, and other new beings that Everley and her friends got to meet. This story was so fun and I enjoyed every moment of reading it. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. The action was continuous. I was sad with how it ended but Everely has so many people that do care for her and that will risk everything to help her. I'm happy her circle of family and friends has grown and she's starting to trust more people. I liked that the most about this book. Everely opened up about what she was going through and more people found out about her clock heart and they didn't shun her. I cannot wait to read Everafter Song and see how it all plays out for Everely.

This book was just as good as the first one. It still has amazing world building, complex characters, a swoon-worthy romance, and a killer plot. So far, it's one of the best fantasy series I've read to date. Here are a few more reasons why you should put this book on your TBR:

-Everley Donovan. I said it once, and I will say it again. She is one complex character, but I love her so freaking much. She's vulnerable and fierce, loving and intense.
-Jamison. Again, yes, I love Jamison. I've never shipped a couple this hard, and this book really fires up the romance. Their flirting and cuteness just made me squeal so many times. Ugh those two. I'll never get enough of them. My OTP forever.
-Mermaids.
-Giants.
-An ancient whale.
-A feisty pixie.
-Pirates.
-Father Time.
-A land under the sea.
-A dangerous prince.
-Honestly--WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?

Seriously, just read these books--especially if you like fantasy. They are incredible.

I received an eARC thanks to the publisher and netgalley.
This book had a lot of meat to it, a lot to digest and think about as the story continues. It flowed well with the transition from the first book, picking up right where it left off at the beginning.
There’s a lot more development of the story, characters, what’s going on - you learn and understand quite a bit more as Everley continues her harrowing journey to reach her goals. Her goals and wishes seem to shift some in this part of the story as well and it brings others goals and stories more to light some.
Things get way more intense here in this book and it left me feeling a lot - so many emotions that I’m not sure what to do with them.
There are so many nods and spins and retellings on fairytale/ folklore stories/ stories I remember from my childhood etc, it’s fun and wild.
Even though this part of the series ended on a happy note, I have conflicting emotions about leaving this part of the story behind and I’m sad about parts of it too. I’m having a slight book hangover here and I’m nervous about what happens next when the end of this series comes out.
If you haven’t read the first in this series, Before the Broken Star then you need to get on that before you read this and get ready for some awesomeness mixed with all the emotions. You don’t want to miss this continuing adventure.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Skyscape Publishers via NetGalley.

This novel was a good read for the next book in the series, however I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one. It continues where the first novel left off, all from Everley’s point of view. There is the exploration of other lands while trying to catch up with Prince Killian, where more of his past is revealed and what he plans to do.

The imagery is so vivid it made me feel I was watching a movie not reading a book. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

Everley is on a quest into the otherworlds. Their task … to find the sword of Avelyn that was stolen by Prince Killian. Yes, the same Prince Killian who killed her entire family and left her for dead. If they don’t find the sword in time … the seven worlds will collapse. Like all quests, the path before them is not safe and with her heart clock beginning to fail, Everley wonders if she will even survive this experience. Will Everley be able to retrieve the sword in time? What secrets will she discover along the way?

Into the Hourglass is the second book in The Evermore Chronicles. King has taken the fantasy world she created in the first book and has expanded it even more. The adventure is high and drama is rampant as Everley sails the high seas and enters forbidden landscapes. The characters learn about the truths behind some myths and everyone must face the unknown head-on. I recommend Into the Hourglass to everyone who has already read Before the Broken Stars. PLEASE … don’t jump into the second book without it.

Excellent sequel. The plot continued at a fast pace, the storyline didn’t drop, the mystery deepened. I felt more invested in the characters as they developed. The magic and the imagery of the world is fascinating, I love the realm the author created for this story. I am very excited for the third installment which comes out this year.
Review of first book in series, Before the Broken Star: Great fantasy, enjoyable read. Highly recommend this new series, and all three books will be available this year, so no waiting!

I really loved this sequel to Before the Broken Star!

Everley is determined to fulfill her promise to Father Time to stop Killian and obtain her sword and her friends find themselves on quite a wild adventure as she seeks to do so. Killian always seems to be one step ahead of them and this book enlightens the reader to even more duplicity on his part. I enjoyed the character development and really liked Everley much better at the end of this book then of the first. She learns to let herself feel a little more throughout the book and begins to stop using her clock heart as an excuse not to let herself get close to others. Jamison remains a favorite character of mine. His bravery and chivalry knows no bounds. I also enjoyed the budding romance immensely, as I have been rooting for it all along.

I am anxious for the third installment to come out and I'm sure I won't be able to put that book down either!!!!

All opinions are my own.

This is the second installment in The Evermore Chronicles by Emily R. King, and it continues the adventure we first began in Before The Broken Star.

Everly, our beloved spicy heroine with the clockwork heart is still hellbent on defeating our villain, although while her intention may have been personal in the beginning, she has learned there’s far more at stake now should she fail.

This book has Everly taking us through quite an adventure: we sail with her ragtag crew toward a treacherous place called The Land Under The Wave.

This book had my nerd brain in heaven. There were twists and turns, DANGER!, mermaids, a sea witch, pirates, elves, fairies, time-hopping because, oh yeah I forgot to mention, she’s on a mission from FATHER TIME.

All of this combined with her trusty-ahem-loyal, (cough theyweremeanttobetogether cough) sidekick made for another solid enjoyable read.
Again, it wasn’t one I couldn’t put down. But there wasn’t anything I disliked about it and it kept me entertained. So I give those ones 3.5 stars.

Everly is determined to get revenge for the death of her family. The journey was thrilling and full of twists and turns. Pirates, fairies, magic of time and time hopping. What will be next?

I received an arc of this book on netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was kind of disappointed about this one, because the first one just seemed better, because in this one the dialogue just seems really dry and boring. Also, the worldbuilding is pretty vague, which makes it hard to really get into the story. It is worth reading, but only if you read the first one first.

With every page, this series gets more and more thrilling. Emily King sure knows how to twist your hearts with heart-pounding action and mind-blowing plot twists. I think my favorite part of Hourglass was the clear character development of the MC, Everley Donovan, as well as the relationship between her and Jamison evolves. Throughout her mission to retrieve the sword of Avenel and to stop her nemesis, Prince Killian Markham, Everley learns that the heart is much more than just an organ, and that just because a machine works in place of a physical heart doesn't mean she's incapable of love after all.. I also love the hero-villain dynamic between Markham and Everley. It kept me interested and on my towns. Now I can't wait for Everafter song!
