This review is of an excerpt, not the entire book. It was a good introduction to the main characters and how they met. Bridget and Amy meet on the cancer ward of the local hospital where they are helping their parent fight cancer. Their support unit grows as more women meet with them for Sunday dinner. Can't wait to see if the rest of the book does justice to the beginning. I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. The entire ARC will be available in January.

I only had an excerpt of this book but I can tell based on the first seven chapters that this book is going to be one that a lot of people will love. The friendship group gave me serious Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants vibes and I love a good solid friendship group. I look forward to march so I can pick up right where I left off!

You'll find this interesting how these gals became friends and how each handles grief and cope after their parent lost their battle with cancer. They still support each other.

I I received an excerpt copy of The Sunday Pot luck from Netgalley for an Honest review.

We start off with one of the characters mom passing from cancer. It’s a bunch of friends that have come together to support their friend after her moms passing. It really gave me Pretty Little Liar vibes. I’m not hating it just gave me those vibes. I did receive an excerpt and it really left me wanting to read more. I can’t wait for release day!

A solid excerpt. I hope I get to read the rest of the story, and that it is as good as I'm expecting based on this.

I could not get a good feel for this book since it was only an excerpt. I will not be recommending it for purchase.

Loved the title, loved the concept, however THE SUNDAY POTLUCK CLUB, while a terrific story idea by Melissa Storm, failed to capture the rich complexity of women both mourning and celebrating life in all its complexity and interesting turns. *sigh!* All the characters felt the same to me, like slightly altered versions of the same person, and the continual flipping into thoughts and action and trite expectations of feelings and misunderstandings....I don't mean to beat a dead story, but very disappointed.

This story is follows four women, who are bonded together in unusual and sad circumstances. They all have had parents who have passed away from, or who are survivors of cancer. I really enjoyed reading this. It was easy to follow, and I love stories with strong female friendships who support each other. It mainly followed Amy, and I would have loved to see points-of-view from the other girls (I'm not sure if it switches later in the book because this was only an excerpt). I cannot wait to read the whole book once it's released. Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for this excerpt for an honest review.

I read a preview of this novel via NetGalley. I was super surprised at what was provided. I anticipated a couple of chapters at best but this preview was 10 chapters. It gives you an in-depth (well as in-depth as a preview can be) of what you are in for. I liked Storms writing style and already feel invested based on this preview. Looking forward to the full novel!

10 Jan 2020: Thoughts on THE SUNDAY POTLUCK CLUB by Melissa Storm
(publication date: 31 March 2020)

**ARC preview provided by Kensington via NetGalley**

I decided to DL preview for THE SUNDAY POTLUCK CLUB b/c NTM author & blurb piqued my interest. (To me, ARC previews are akin to Amazon’s look-inside function for books still in the publication pipeline.)

Unlike some previews, this one consisted of 10 full chapters (54pgs of actual text). Thus, I got a very good sense of Storm’s writing style, as well as general set-up re: storyline. I can already guess how some things might play out, but wonder about some others.

Inasmuch as mutual support during a parent’s illness & subsequent grief/mourning upon death forms the backstory/bond for Amy & her 3 friends (titular founding members of the Potluck Club), THE SUNDAY POTLUCK CLUB may be a hard read for some. (I’ve lost more than few family & friends to cancer.) However, it seems that the storyline will focus on what happens *after* — reconciling conflicting emotions (eg, grief over death, yet relief re: end to suffering), resuming one’s identity/life after extended time spent as caregiver, etc.

Also, like Amy, I wonder how/if the friendship among Amy & her friends, formed during such an unhappy & stressful period, will change as each emerges from grief & ‘settle[s] into their post-loss lives’. How & in which direction will each focus their energies? For me, *that* would be the reason to read THE SUNDAY POTLUCK CLUB.

(rated 3 stars so to post feedback; GR link provided; Amazon link N/A b/c pre-release)

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for my review. This was a good read about four females meeting in the most unlikely of places, at a hospital while accompanying their loved ones to cancer treatments. They meet on Sundays to eat and catch up from the week. Each of them grieves differently, but the strength of their friendship remains strong.

Read an excerpt, it was okay, I personally don't like these stories, that's another thing. the excerpt didn't give a great idea of the plot, the cover and the lot differed which was a disappointment.

It's a shame that it was an excerpt, because I was already so invested in this story.
Although a bit difficult to digest at some points regarding the grief subject, Amy's character was so captivating and interesting. She's been suffering for a long time, due to her mother's disease, but she's finally feeling it's time to move on and live life again, it's only fair.
I also enjoyed the interactions with her friends and how each of them carry them own burden, and how they always count on each other. A great representation of friendship!

I received an excerpt of this book about a group of women who meet in a hospital and bond over the illness and death of a loved one. The title of the book refers to their potluck suppers on Sundays as they form a group with one another in friendship and grief. The two main characters, Amy and Bridget are both young women struggling to come to terms with a parent's death. Amy is a second-grade teacher and Bridget is in veterinary school, unsure if she wants to continue.

Emotional and uplifting, it's lovely to find a book where women come together and help one another through grief. Sharing food and companionship is a very helpful way to work through grief and I'm excited to read the entire book and I want to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was only a preview but I have to admit it didn't do much for me - the book is about friends who have either lost a parent to cancer, or whose parent is undergoing cancer and how they move on. I don't think I read enough of the book to enjoy it but it definitely has potential.

In the end i got to figure out this is an excerpt of the novel. But i'll review it anyway.
It was an easy read but i didn't get time to invest or get the feel to know the characters in such short time.

***I received an excerpt from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.***

After reading this short excerpt, I decided I wouldn’t waste my time on reading the full book. The start is too slow, too mundane, and the characters are too bland. I get that the center of this book is moving forward from grief, but it was a little too slow for my taste.

Since this was only an excerpt of the book I didn't really feel like I had enough time to get a clear picture of where this book was going. In the portion that we read, we see four friends who are dealing with grief over the death of a parent. I didn't feel as if I got even an inkling of what any of the characters were like. It seemed to spend the whole time talking about the different ways they were dealing with grief and I kept thinking how depressing this book will be if this continues. It may have an uplifting conclusion, but from the section I read, it did not entice me to seek out the full book to find out.

Not a bad glimpse into the book. But I wasn't really taken enough by the book to request for the whole book now. The story is about grieving friends. Amy, Hazel and Bridget. They had found each other at the hospital cafeteria when each of their parents were receiving treatment.

I think I'd have liked to have spent time in the heads of all three of them rather than only Amy. I also didn't like the pacing. I know it's only the beginning and things are about to take off. But when we're given an excerpt of a book to be enticed to later pick the whole book, I'm expected to be wowed or intrigued by the excerpt. This didn't do it for me. I'm maybe gonna pick up the book after it releases. But I'm not interested in the ARC of the full book for now.

ARC: The Sunday Potluck Club is about a group of friends who connect over the shared experience of having a parent fighting cancer. While this book does show aspects from every girl the main character is Amy, an elementary school teacher, who lost her mother a few months before. In this book Amy is seen working through all these feelings and learning how to get back to her normal routine without her mother. Along with Amy's grieving we see her friends grieving the loss of their parents too.

I really enjoyed this excerpt! This is the first book I've read by Melissa Storm and I'm glad it is, because this is the perfect book to read. The book is an easy read and it is written so that you feel like you are there with the characters. Melissa Storm describes the scenes and characters perfectly. It is so easy to picture all that's happening and what each character looks like!

I highly recommend reading this book and think it would be an amazing book club read. I will be buying a copy of this book for friends and I can't wait for the full book to come out!
