"The Escape Manual for Introverts" by Katie Vaz is a quirky guide that promises creative ways to escape from social situations. As an introvert myself, I was excited to delve into it. However, I found the book to be a bit underwhelming. While it covers various scenarios and offers escape plans, I couldn't help but feel that the humor and wit I was hoping for were missing.

This was absolutely fantastic. I loved all the illustrations that were on each page. And the advice was pretty solid too. It was a quick read but despite that, I really enjoyed reading it.

This was a cute tongue in cheek comic style advice for Introverts to escape interactions. Not to be taken literally, it's a fun and silly exercise in made-up scenarios and how to make your escape without being rude. Some of the advice could be used in actuality, especially if you have trouble navigating social exchanges or have trouble setting boundaries with people.

As an introvert myself, I was very intrigued when I read the title of this book. And while reading the book, I couldn't help but think that the author had crawled into my brain and addressed all the awkward life situations I've ever dealt with. The illustrations were a fun touch. I'm definitely going to have to remember some of these in the future! For emergency situations, of course!

Cute book that I just did not connect with. The illustrations are cute but I missed a connection to the subject matter, which is strange because I am an introvert attempting to escape from virtually every social situation.

'The Escape Manual for Introverts' by Katie Vaz is an ebook filled with strategies for introverts in different social situations.

The book is broken up in sections based on the proximity of relationships to the reader, starting with friends and relatives and moving to strangers. A variety of possibly uncomfortable social situations are then presented, like a trivia night or a dinner party. Then the reader is given a series of excuses, some which seem plausible and some which seem pretty thin (but are funny).

It reads pretty quickly. It seems that most introverts have their own coping skills. I know I do. Maybe the book is supposed to be funny in pointing out how lame my excuses sound. It's amusing.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

This book is so simple and easy to read because of the cute art style and hilarious text.
I found myself relating to many situations and quietly chuckling to myself at some of the "solutions" suggested.

This is a short and sweet read, that is most likely hit or miss, depending on your sense of humor.

This book was promoted as a graphic novel, but this is actually a book filled with tips with little illustrations here or there. I liked some of them, some made me smile, and some tend to be quite ridiculous.

As an introvert who often gets herself into unwanted situations that include other people, I expected this book to be very funny, and I hoped some funny angles will maybe even help me to actually get out of situations.

Well, this was a cute little book with fun illustrations, but that's about it. Unfortunately I don't feel like I got anything from it. There's no real fantasy it, after about the third page it already seems repetitive and humorless, and the only thing that saves it is that it's very short, fast to get through, and it's better to spend your time with than nothing when you're bored.

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't get the point of this book at all.

I rate it 2 stars.

SYNOPSIS | This is a series of illustrations all about how to escape from social situations with your friends, relatives, coworkers, acquaintances and strangers. The methods of escape range from the plausible to the ridiculous (but still highly relatable!).

MY THOUGHTS | This is a very quick, cute and relatable collection of illustrations that is the perfect stocking stuffer gift for a fellow introvert. I really liked the illustration style, the colour palette and some of the methods of escape actually had me internally chuckling a little bit. My main criticism is that I flew through this in under 30minutes.

The Escape Manual for Introverts by Katie Vaz is a 2019 Andrews McMeel Publishing release.

A constructive, comical, and applicable guide for all introverts!

Anyone following my reviews has probably heard me allude to my being an introvert. I’m not just an introvert- but an extreme introvert- I also LIKE being an introvert. Extroverts tend not to understand that, so I’ve read several books on how to bridge the gap or cope in an extroverted world.

This book does a fine job of giving those who find themselves in overwhelming social situations a way out without looking anti-social or rude. Some of these suggestions are a bit outlandish, but most are quite plausible.

My one complaint, though, is that the book is listed as a graphic novel. I’ll have to agree to disagree on that point, since I’d call it a self -help book with graphics included, since it is mostly written in black and white text. The 'graphic novel' description is used fast and loose and I think it's misleading.

Although I was a bit irritated that the graphics weren’t quite as advertised, the artwork is a nice addition, even though it is a bit simplistic.

While some folks might look at the antics suggested in the book as over the top, truth be told, I’ve actually done many of the things the author suggested. The great thing is these suggestions help one plan and execute the escape with grace and aplomb.

Naturally, the book is also funny, and very relatable for the introvert- but It might also help extroverts gain a better understanding of how we think and how the stress of ‘peopling’ makes us feel.

I think these tips will be especially useful at this time of year when the holidays present a slew of social invitations and family gatherings, which are very stressful, and invade one’s quiet alone time.

The book is short, easy to read, and while some of it is a bit exaggerated at times. it is also very entertaining- and most of the tips are quite useful and I will certainly make use of them.

Overall, this is a fun, little book all introverts will find helpful and enjoyable!

Vaz is an introvert, so she understands the struggle of maintaining relationships while minimizing social activity. In this humorous manual, Vaz gives both realistic and absurd suggestions for escaping unwanted situations where social interaction is necessary. Apply at your own risk.
This book was funny both because of the increasing ridiculousness of Vaz’s suggestions and because I recognized strategies that I have applied in my life. The struggle for introverts is real, and I think this book can elicit laughter from most readers, whether introvert or extrovert. What you see is what you get with this one: a quick read for a little laugh.

This book is humorous, and yet very much shows how us introverts see things differently than outroverts. It's not a bad thing, but it does lighten the tone and maybe help people.
