This was pretty much comics compiled from various different Big Nate graphic novels. I don't know what I was expecting going into this book but I certainly didn't know why I downloaded it.

It's not really memorable and I don't have any good feelings about it, but hey, I'm not particularly in the suggested age range for this graphic novel.

Kids love it and check them out all of the time at my library. So I thought I should finally give one a read. I can see the appeal for them and think it would be ideal for tweens. The characters can be a bit snarky at times so that's something to be aware of for sensitive readers/parents. I felt like this book kind of jumped all over the place but then saw in the notes at the end that it was created from comic strips published in newspapers between March 2015 and September 2015 so then it made a lot more sense.

Yet another fun time in the life of Big Nate! I chuckled throughout the entire book. This book included a little romance, but what else is to be expected from this precocious sixth grader? As with all the Big Nate books, there is humor, a flair for the fantastic and friendship drama. This series is perfect for boys or girls, young or old. This series is great for anyone who wants to enjoy a fun-filled book. The comic strip format can be a little intimidating for some of the older readers, but just go with it! The comic strips are colorful and easy to read. You may discover a whole new way to enjoy a book.

My 12 year old son loves these books. I let him read this copy as this was geared towards his age range. He adored this book. He finished it one evening and read it about 3 times. I knew each time he was reading it because he would be laughing. We are a big fan of the Big Nate series and will be buying the hard copy version to add to our collection.

Special thank you Lincoln Peirce for another fun and whimsical graphic novel. We can't wait until the next one! My son said he wishes they came out more often, and I agree!

As a parent who is an avid reader, I feel that it's extremely important to encourage children to read. Boys in particular seem to have a harder time finding the love and joy of reading. I am grateful for series like this that create that passion and '"can't put this book down" moments. In a world of video games and youtube it seems harder to get kids to not only read, but to truly love it. When my son gets his hands on Big Nate all of those things disappear and he becomes completely consumed and can't put the books down,

As always, I enjoy the big nate comic compilations. He and his friends are funny and have a bit of a sarcastic edge. There is plenty of boy humor. Recommended for reluctant middle grade readers, especially boys.

I really enjoyed this! This one was probably the funniest out of all of them. Lincoln Peirce never disappoints.

My son (9 years old) loved this book. He's a huge Big Nate fan and according to him, this was as good as any of the books in the series, and he can't wait for the next one.

"Big Nate: Hug It Out!" by Lincoln Peirce is a humorous graphic novel for kids between the ages of 7 and 12 years old. The stories mostly revolve around school "issues" the characters deal with in elementary and middle school. It was an amusing story that engaged my 8-year-old daughter, while I found the story to be too immature to enjoy personally.

I read this with my ten year old son. He loved it, and laughed out loud at certain passages. I also thought it was an enjoyable, solid read.

The latest collection of Big Nate comics from author/artist Lincoln Peirce contains - for this reviewer - some of the funniest, most sarcastic moments of the mouthy six-grader's entire career. Unfortunately, the new school year seems determined to grate on Nate's nerves; from annoyingly gabby friends, to a high-scoring rival at the arcade, to having to be tutored by his arch-enemy Gina in order to avoid summer school, to being beaned on the baseball field, to ... gasp! - Cupid striking hard as Nate shares a ride with a girl at a carnival he develops an instant crush on, only to lose her in the crowd afterward without so much as getting her name! Nate certainly could use a hug, and Peirce's sense of humor here, along with Nate's big mouth, are sharp as a razor on nearly every page, while - even with his super-sized personality and ego - Nate still manages to remain one of the funniest, most likable characters in comics. I laughed at nearly every page, and keep a copy bedside in case I ever need to go to sleep with a smile. Keep it up, Nate; in real life you'd probably be a brat in need of a good spanking, but between the pages you are freaking hilarious. 4.5/stars

Once again, Lincoln Peirce gives us a great collection of Big Nate comics. I love reading these books as a bit of a palate cleanser. Clean and fun, Nate never fails to make me smile with his hijinks. And getting to see his grandparents again was a delight. Grandpa and Nate resonate on the same level and it is just so fun to see. We also get to see Teddy and Francis roll their eyes at Nate and Gina is back as his younger arch-nemesis. Older nemesis, Mrs. Godfrey is back as well.

Big Nate is very popular in our library and we are always asked when the new book will be out and what will happen to Nate next. In this book, Nate runs into a mystery girl in the amusement park and then after he rides the ride with her, she disappears. Later at school Nate is forced to work on a project with his arch nemesis Gina and his friends say the best way to get through all this is just simply Hug It Out! The drawings and dialogue as always are brilliantly done and wittingly clever and I know our young readers will love this next Big Nate segment.

We will consider adding this title to our JGraphic Novel collection at the library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I'm on Board

O.K., when the boys started showing up with Big Nate books I wasn't convinced that they had long term appeal. But now I'm a convert. Maybe it just took a while to get into the Nate vibe.

As is the case with most comics series the book comprises a series of arcs, with some one-shot jokes and some bits that go on for a while. And this one, which is well into the series, had many more appealing bits than I expected. Whether it's Nate playing ball, or missing out on hugs, or temporarily turning off of Cheez Doodles, there was a lot to like here. While the humor is never exactly edgy, there are a fair number of pokes and sly observations that keep Nate from just being silly. And who doesn't love "School Picture Guy"?

And this book features Nate being tutored by his nemesis Gina, which turned out to be very funny, mostly at Nate's expense. Underlying that, though, there was an authentic sense of how Nate felt about being tutored, and maybe it's that hint of realism about kids Nate's age that elevates this series above just Captain Underpants style silliness. In the same vein, while there are lots of brief or one-off jokes there is an extended arc about Nate's search for a mystery girl crush he met riding the Flamethrower at the fair, and that is a surprisingly touching and insightful arc that I admired very much.

Anyway, it seems that if you are a Big Nate fan this volume won't disappoint, and if you are new to Nate this is a perfectly fine place to start and to get a sense of the series.

I have never read a Nate book before but I really enjoyed this. It's light enough for younger children to get but also enjoyable enough for adults, who are a child at heart, to get a few giggles out of. My favourite characters were the Grandparents. They got the most laughs from me. I would definitely pick up another book in this series.

Ha! Whenever I get into intense reading, it's always nice to break it up with a little bit of levity and fluff. Yes, Big Nate is totally a Children's/Middle School book, but as juvenile as it can be, it's also funny and the drawings are entertaining. My younger daughter used to read this all the time, so this brought back memories. I had forgotten his Grandfather was basically an older version of Nate (ha!) and as a teacher, I chuckled knowing this was the type of student that would drive you crazy, but you still liked him, as long as you could keep a sense of humor. If you've ever read and enjoyed Big Nate, you'll like this one. For me, it was a nice break from the more serious reading I've been doing lately.

Another good addition the the Big Nate comic series. Kids will be asking for it. Parents would enjoy the humor as well. Geared toward middle-grade readers but the content is clean enough for for younger readers or family read time. A humorous slice-of-life series.
