This is an adorable book full of photographs, taken by wildlife photographer Suzi Eszterhas, of panda cubs in their natural habitat doing exactly what panda cubs do, mostly playing. Each page also features one large, bold, words that describe the photos and are opposites (i.e. up/down, near/far, big/little and so on). This is a very simple book which is exactly what I like when teaching concepts such as opposites. My granddaughter had me read this one several times until she was able to add the second word to each pair. My grandson listened once, looked at the illustrations, named the opposites and was ready to move on. He waited somewhat impatiently as we read this over and over to satisfy the three year old. This is one I highly recommend to families of toddlers and preschool classrooms. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Short, sweet and to the point! Beautiful photographs by Suzi Eszterhas (again!). Very cute! Practiced opposites with my 3 year old and he most certainly had fun.

A cast of adorable Panda cubs provide the platform to learn opposites. They are photographed in their natural settings and one single opposite (in full, bold caps ) describe the action that the young bears are participating in: up, down... near, far... one, many... little, big ... just to name a few.

The simplicity of the book and the antics of the cubs make it a fun and educational read. The photos are clear and crisp. They are accompanied by large lettered words that small kids can quickly learn to read. I highly recommend this book for all ages. I am sure kids will come back again and again to enjoy it.

If I had to describe this book in one sentence, it would be: "Perfectly adequate but not very exciting."

Panda Opposites is a simple book of few words. The concept of opposites is explored throughout, with pairs of single words accompanied by illustrative photographs.

The audience is mainly going to be very young children (and perhaps panda-obsessed older readers). There's no story, so it's more likely a book that kids are going to want to peruse themselves just for the pictures. Each photo is clear in its concept, making the meanings of the words and concept of the opposites clear.

I prefer more story in the picture books I read (either that, or the illustrations have to be absolutely spectacular), so I can't get that excited about this. It would be a good book for building a child's vocabulary, though.

I think a part of me, going in to read Panda Opposites by Suzi Eszterhas, wanted to believe that this book was going to be a lot more than I already knew it would be. There's no denying that this was going to be a simple book that teaches your child about opposites alongside some exceedingly cute pictures of some pandas. And that's exactly what it turned out to be. Which is why I felt kind of silly when I realized I was actually rather disappointed with this book. And why, when I realized that if it were about foxes I'd have given it four stars instead of three, I figured this book is really the sort that caters to those whose favorite animals are pandas.

If I could change one thing about Panda Opposites, it would unquestionably be how long it was. And I'm not saying that a book like this has to be quite long, but rather that if this is the route you're going you should at least include a few more opposites. You see, this book was an incredibly fast read, even for a children's book. And with the fact that it was pictures of pandas rather than drawings of pandas showing off opposites left a lot to be desired for me. I wanted more opposites and more interesting ways for the pandas to present them.

Ultimately, there's a lot of good about Panda Opposites. Do I love it? Of course not. But do I think that children who adore pandas will benefit from having and reading this book? You bet. At the end of the day, I guess I'm just more of a fox person.

This book contains beautiful photographs of pandas. The pictures are connected to teaching the concept of opposites. As a teacher of young children, I would use this book in lessons related science and animals. It would be a wonderful addition to a learning center in a classroom setting.
Simple, beautiful and connected to learning. Perfect for children ages 3-7.

“Panda Opposites” by Suzi Eszterhas is a very simple book, meant for little children. I would say it is best suited for kids under three years old.

Suzi Eszterhas is an award-winning wildlife photographer who has spent much time documenting baby animals in their natural habitat. The photographs show some contrasting images for kids to help them understand the concept of opposites with fun, cute pictures.

Cute picture book using Panda pictures to illustrate opposites, from up to down, and over to under. The pictures work perfectly with the book.
