I was new to keto when I received this book. It provides good guidance for women doing keto or wanting to get started. I would like to emphasize the “For Women” part.

The book provides a lot or recipes and shopping lists kept the initial process manageable.

Thanks to Callisto Media and NetGalley for a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I was brand new to the keto world before I downloaded this book and I honestly thought it would have been harder to change my lifestyle to adopt new changes. But this cookbook made it so much easier and tastier along the way!

A keto book geared towards women will help diversify, yet pinpoint a topic for those libraries looking to build a collection on this still popular food and diet trend.

An introduction to keto for women, and a good cookbook for anyone doing keto.

She Does Keto offers a good introduction to the Ketogenic diet in Part 1. Basic information that a woman would need to know to start and maintain keto successfully is given. It also includes a list of ingredients that are keto-compliant, one that has ingredients to avoid and a three-week meal plan.

Part 2 (about 80% of the whole book) is actually a collection of recipes. (The subtitle needs to be tweaked.)

You wouldn't believe some of the ingredients used in some so-called keto cookbooks, but She Does Keto features recipes with ingredients that are not likely to kick you out of ketosis (though a few would if you overindulge.) This makes it very useful for the beginner who might not be so discerning at first.

The author is sensitive to dairy, soy and nuts so there are fewer recipes that include these foods.

The recipes are divided into these categories:

Breakfast,
Sides and Snacks
Soups and Salads
Vegetarian Main Meals
Seafood and Poultry
Beef and Pork
Desserts
Beverages
Sauces and Dressings

I'm always happy to see some easy everyday type of dishes in a cookbook, and some for maybe a bit more special occasions. In this aspect, this book does not disappoint.

Thank you to Netgalley and Fairwinds Press for the review copy. This is my honest review.

She Does Keto was a hit in my house. I was initially drawn to the cover and found the recipes to be detailed and simple to make. I would have liked to a corresponding picture for each recipe. I enjoyed many of the recipes and found the macro information valuable. The swap information was also handy. Where I felt She Does Keto could have offered more was in Part One. The information given was basic. I would recommend this book to someone just starting out on Keto or someone looking for quick and basic recipes.

I think this book is great for someone who is looking into or just starting with the Keto lifestyle.
It breaks down the information in a way that doesn’t overwhelm or discourage you by giving tons of information, recipes, lifestyle changes, etc...that seem impossible to do.
It’s geared toward women but I feel like anyone could use this book.
Especially with all of the swap out options that are suggested.
I appreciate the author and their consideration to try and include everyone, despite dietary restrictions.
I have not tried all of the recipes in this book but the one that I did, were quite tasty and simple enough to make.
I would recommend this book-again to someone new to the Keto way of life or for anyone looking for new recipes to explore.

Thank you to Net Galley for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As someone who is just starting out on my keto journey, I found this book to be incredibly valuable in both the information provided at the beginning of the book and for the delicious recipes at the end. I look forward to adding many of these recipes to my repertoire, and I appreciate that most of them will appeal to my non-keto husband and children. A wonderful resource!

Good book for women who want to do the Keto diet.
Yummy recipes, shopping lists and a good intro on what to eat and what not eat.

I’ve personally been doing lazy Keto for years (without knowing about Keto) but recently had to change it all do to IVF and to help with the health of my eggs.

I’m greatful this book is out and talks about Keto for Women! Because our bodies are different and even though I love bacon, eating it three times a week in the “one-for-all” meal plan was not what I wanted to do.

This is a great start for a healthy you!

I received this ebook copy from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

Finally a Keto diet book just for the female bodily needs. My husband and I were recommended the keto diet, we are both over weight. We began and he lost a lot of weight. I got sick, dizzy, nauseous and in a lot of pain. After two months on the diet I had to have my gall bladder removed. I was eating all the wrong foods for me.

The veggie focus of She Doe Keto would have saved me months of pain and a surgery. I wish this book would have been out two years ago. Thank you Gigi for writing this book.

The recipes are delicious and nutritious and tailor made for women. Gigi was very thoughtful and inclusive in her advice and explanations. I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that it came at this diet change from the viewpoint of a women. To many nutrition books generalize to much. I feel much more educated not only on Keto but on how nutrition effects men and women differently.

NetGalley provided me with an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my review. All thoughts are my own

The author mentions that men burn 400 more calories than women do just because they are males. She also states that the Keto diet has the calcium and vitamin D, B, Iodine and Magnesium that a woman needs in order to replenish those that are lost to menopause, childbearing and other hormonal changes.
The Keto diet uses protein and fats instead of sugar and carbohydrates to stimulate the body into using ketones and not glucose as a fuel for your cells.
You will be encouraged to eat nutrient-dense foods such as avocados, eggs, nuts, fatty fish, and free-range cheese and meat - even though you may eat bacon and pork rinds, these are not healthy foods.
The concept of “fasting” is introduced, but the author points out that this means that you can choose to eat less food at different times of the day, eat only certain types of food for a few days a week, or only eat during a 4 hour period. This does not mean that you stop eating any food for long periods of time!
You will notice that the author gives you extensive lists of meats, fish, vegetables and fats, along with advice on buying and preparing foods in bulk and meal plans.
You may experience “flu-like” symptoms such as brain fog, headaches, and insomnia, but this is normal, because your body is getting used to being off of sugar and using fats to gain energy.
There is a recipe for coffee cake that uses coffee, coconut flour, protein powder, cinnamon and eggs that sounds delicious, filling, and gives you most of your protein allotment for the day. There is also a recipe for Eggplant chips that will satisfy your craving for snacks.
The CHICKEN & BACON SALAD WITH SUN-DRIED TOMATO DRESSING uses chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese along with sun dried tomatoes, olive oil, nutritional yeast and cheese to create a refreshing, filling salad.
There are loads of recipes that require salmon or tuna that are easy to prepare, and there is even an easy recipe for making your own sushi using sushi - grade fish, avocados, cucumbers and that use nori-wraps or lettuce to roll the sushi into.
You will NOT go hungry on this diet!

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this early copy.

I've been interested in learning more about the Keto diet and Ashworth did just that. I'm not sure I use many of the recipes, I'm a lazy and boring chef but I loved how she explained what Keto is.

I recommend checking out this cook book, the recipes are unique and it full of information about the Keto diet.

She Does Keto

The Ketogenic Diet is one that many readers may be familiar with. I had not heard of it until about 6 months ago when I saw different talk shows referring to the new trend. My son called 4 months ago and told us he and his wife had begun the diet. I read about it, then my husband and I talked about it and started March 15. Since, I have read a couple of books and articles. I discussed it with my physician and he maintains that some of his patients too are living the Keto plan. Yes, it is a plan one must prepare for and live with. Ms. Ashworth gives us a great basis in her book. She discusses what it is and why it works. Her referral in the title, She Does Keto is because women and men have different metabolisms due to their hormones. She discusses her problems with digestion of foods and how she won the battles against stomach indigestion. I have learned after years of questioning myself why eating carbohydrates, sugars, processed foods played havoc with my entire digestive system. A year ago I stopped eating anything with processed flour. I turned to rice, potatoes, etc. to make my life grand. (Not so) Since I started avoiding carbs and sugar on the diet I feel much better. I can eat many vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, onions, asparagus and others that perpetually bloated me up.
Being on the Ketogenic Diet is a way of life. I continue to read about it so I can continue to keep on the balance of sugar, carbs, and intermittent fasting. She includes recipes that are easy and give the reader ideas on how to change their daily food habits into healthy ones that help control weight, blood pressure and energy.
Gigi Ashworth takes her talents in journalism and combines them with her degree in nutrition to provide us with the knowledge to begin a healthy eating platform and a way to stick with it. Yes there are times when vacations and special occasions make it impossible to stay within the Keto guidelines. Eating the best choices at the time and then returning to the program tells me that I am not ‘off the wagon’, I can return to the plan and will soon be back into ketosis.
She Does Keto by Gigi Ashworth will be published on June 18, 2019 by Rockridge Press. I am certain I will refer back to this excellent guide as needed. It will be a handy guide to follow and seek answers as I need it.
