The Last of Will was the first book I've read by this author.

Synopsis: Greer Sarazen is like any teenager. All she wants is to get her driver's license, to not be bugged by annoying people, and to NOT have her spring break interrupted. Yet, when her dad, Will – who has been unemployed due to downsizing – finally gets a job at the local cemetery, Greer is forced to tag along on a road trip to deliver a stranger’s ashes out of state.

My Review: It took me awhile to get into this story. It was an interesting read.

It took me a while to get into it, but once I was there, it kept me hooked. Vivid characters, engaging storytelling, this book pays off in a big way.

The last of Will by Sheryl Benko was a novel that I didn't expect much from but found myself loving and I didn't want it to end. Greer was a protagonist I really connected with and her journey with her father really hit home about finding what we need in life in the places and people we least expect. A solid 5 stars read.

I had a hard time getting into this novel, but I can appreciate the novel as a whole. It’s a coming of age story filled with adventure and insights that are worth the read

Greer is a self-described “dumb teenager” at the mature age of fifteen. In the Last of Will, she breaks the fourth wall by asking “I still can’t fathom how you got in here to watch this train wreck unfold. Seriously, I don’t recall sending out invitations. But since you’re here, try and keep up.”

Greer’s father Will is newly unemployed from his long-time accountancy position. Good thing Greer’s mother still has income from her florist shop. However, money is tight. When Will’s unemployment is about to run out, he impulsively gets a job as a gravedigger, which was a job he held in college. His first job is to carry a man’s ashes home to his family beginning the crazy road trip with Greer, which is the center of this novel.

Greer is the perfect teenager: sarcastic, witty, somewhat manipulative, who overthinks every event and decision within her life. Greer is us all—either now, soon, or in the past. Reading her story was laugh-out-loud funny in spots and heart-breaking in others.

Here is Greer’s assessment of world history, “I mean, yeah, some vaguely interesting stuff happened along the centuries, but all I remember after a chapter is that most wars are about land or religion, most geniuses come off as initially crazy, and most conquerors are shorter than you’d expect.” A succinct explanation of both history and Game of Thrones!

If you think the two quotes above are funny, then you will enjoy this teen/young adult’s journey across the country. 4 stars!

Thanks to Black Chateau and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this book so much and I have to confess something, when I asked NetGalley to provide me a copy, even though I was interested enough to ask for it, I didn't have high expectations. I'm so glad my judgment was completely wrong, this story is so captivating and gives you that warm feeling in the heart.

Greer and her dad go on this crazy journey to deliver the ashes of guy who recently died. Since her father was sacked and was depressed with the perspective of having nothing to do, he took the gravedigger job offered by the local cemetery. Greer is that typical 15 year old teenager who wants to do be doing what teenagers at that age do, and wants nothing to do with her father and his new condition, since because of his problem they've been walking on eggs' shells with each other.

However, because of his new and strange job and because Greer was grounded for skipping some classes at school (typical teenager, see...) both of them go on this road trip to honor the dead guy's last wish. Everything was supposed to be boring, frustrating, annoying, right? Wrong!!! They embark on this peculiar and awesome adventure on the road, meeting all these crazy characters while Greer also wants to find out what really happened to Bill, the dead guy.

The most amazing thing for me was, following them on their self-discovery journey as Greer starts to understand some concepts of life that for her were completely alien, becoming really mature to the point when she starts to develop a better relationship with her father, who is also, day by day, opening up to her and emerging from the depression he was suffering.

It's an awesome and beautiful story and I'm so proud to recommend this book!!!
