Sophie's Shell is a children's picture book that takes on the topic of shyness and connecting with others. I thought the premise was wonderful but I struggled with part of the narrative in this storyline.

While I think I understand what the author was going for, I thought that the idea of the "pop!" took away from my connection to what Sophie was feeling and going through. It felt more confusing than anything else and didn't seem like an accurate way to describe Sophie wanting to go back into her shell when she was feeling uncomfortable and shy.

I did love that it showed the connection of opening up and being vulnerable with others and the power of not feeling so alone and think this is such a wonderful message for readers of all ages.

I loved the storyline and I feel that it's one that a lot of children can relate to. It tells them that they are not alone, there will always be someone else who feels the way they do. A very important lesson to be learned and the illustrations are adorable.

A cute story, with adorable illustrations, about coming out of one's shell (pun intended). Sophie is shy and needs help to come out of her shell.

Sophie is a snail who is excited to begin school, but once she is there, she becomes too shy to interact with her teacher and classmates. Every time she is confronted with a new situation, she pops back into her shell to hide. Stanley, another snail, finds a friend in Sophie, because he too can be shy, but together they are stronger and learn to love being at school and making new friends.

My only complaint is that the "POP!" on every page when Sophie goes back into her shell is a little awkward. I honestly thought something bad had happened at first, like maybe the snail exploded. I read the book with my three year old son, and it was not an issue to him, but it did give me pause.

My son can be very shy in new situations, so I feel like this was a good story for him to hear in a relaxed, non-stressful environment. I'm excited to find another book to add to my list of books to help children with anxiety.

Sophie’s shell is an adorable book about a shy snail named Sophie and how she overcomes her shyness with help form a new friend named Stanley. Stanley helps Sophie to see that it’s okay to be shy, and she’s not alone in the way she feels.

This is a great book to help kids who are beginning school or starting something new. Shyness is absolutely normal and the snails in this book show is how to get through it.

Cute illustrations and an easy to follow story.

This book tells the story of a bright snail named Sophie whose excitement for the first day of school is quickly swallowed up by her fear of talking to her teacher and her classmates. Every time someone asks her a question she pops into her shell and hides. The illustrations are colorful and will definitely appeal to the book’s intended audience. The book gently validates the struggle that many children experience while providing encouragement to face those fears. As a parent of a child who is very shy, I am eagerly anticipating the release of this book.
