Oh, my stars! “Wolf Rebel” just made the SWAT series more exciting! Wow! Wow! Wow! It just keeps getting better and better.

Alright, this might be spoilery to those whom this book will be the first one they read in the series. But, this is Book 10 and there is already a lot of history. So, if this is your first time in the series, there might be spoilers for the first 9 books. For those who had been following this series, this will be spoiler free.

“Wolf Rebel” is the story of SWAT werewolf Rachel Bennett who in a previous book allowed werewolf hunter Knox Lawson to get away. That action was out of character for any werewolf. Then Know threw another monkey wrench in the mix when he sought out Rachel for help because he was turning into a werewolf!

Oh, what a conundrum!

And here’s the clincher – Rachel agreed to help him, even invited him to her apartment then hid from her fellow SWAT team members Knox’s real identity.

Now, if this does not make you scratch your head and ask why, you realize that Rachel and Knox are falling in love. And they are sworn enemies! Again, what a conundrum.

Still, believe it or not, the romantic development between Rachel and Knox is actually a subplot. The main plot revolves around Rachel’s headaches and nightmares. And yes, this is a pivotal point not just in the “Wolf Rebel” but the whole series.

In “Wolf Instinct” (Book 9), we saw how the SWAT team decimated their mortal enemy since time immemorial. But even as “Wolf Instinct” ended, we knew that the series has not reached the end yet. Personally, I was expecting that Book 10 was going to be a coming together of all the characters and then a farewell.

Huh! I was totally wrong! Author Paige Tyler is a master of her craft, so she used “Wolf Rebel” to segue our favorite werewolves into a new path. And this new villain is also an enemy of the werewolves from the Old World.

Perhaps, many of you will say, “it’s book 10 already! Isn’t it time to end this?” Maybe, if it is a straight romantic series, yes, 10 books are enough.

But the SWAT series is a paranormal series with romance and a police procedural woven in. So, it is in a subgenre of its own. Also, having more than 10 books in a series is not unheard of. Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” series needed 20 books for the whole story to be told.

Robert Jordan is one of the most influential fantasy writers for this generation and “Wheel of Time” rivals “Game of Thrones” when both were just written works, i.e., before HBO made GOT into a blockbuster.

That said, let me finish this review by saying that I can’t wait for the next installment. I hope Paige Tyler is not tired of writing about SWAT.

“Wolf Rebel” is Rated M for Mature due to violence.

The tenth book in SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team, Wolf Rebel, Knox and Rachel’s story. I enjoyed this read, great character and an engaging story made this a fabulous addition to the series.

Trigger warning: Clowns. I know this is a major trigger for some folks and something you should be aware of right up front, because the clown in this story is the physical manifestation of a literal nightmare which terrorised the heroine and almost kills both her and the hero. If that's too much clowning around for you, give this one a miss.

Horrifying clowns aside, this is a good addition to Paige Tyler's Special Wolf Alpha Team (yes, SWAT). Although it's several books into the series, about all you need to know is that the Dallas SWAT team is made up of werewolves, and they're not the only mythical creatures who are real in this fictional version of our world.

Heroine Rachel was a cop who survived an attack which would have killed her if she hadn't carried the recessive werewolf genes. Joining the Dallas SWAT team, she's carved out a place for herself, but she's haunted by ever more horrifying hallucinations of her attacker.

Knox used to be on the wrong side… until he took a bullet meant for Rachel and discovered he was one of the werewolves he was meant to be hunting. Between this and the Horror Clown thing, you'd think that would be enough obstacles, but no… people are trying to kill them in their day jobs as well, and the action just never lets up.

There's A Lot going on here, maybe a bit too much, as though I'm quite happy to accept werewolves and nightmares come to life in my fictional worlds, I do still expect it all to hang logically together and there was stuff that really didn't. (Why did the monster forget about Hannah, the victim before Rachel? Why skip thousands of viable, closer targets to hunt down Rachel specifically?) Having a contact who could all too conveniently identify the monster and tell them how to kill it took away a lot of the suspense, too, and felt like a deus ex machina. I'd much rather Rachel and Knox had to figure it out themselves.

I do like this series, but the author got a bit too caught up with different plotlines going on here, and we really needed more dramatic tension and less description of every bit of food everyone put in their mouths. Three stars.

We're 10 deep in the series and the author still manages to change it up to keep things fresh and new and surprise her readers with the twists and turns in her plots. In the last book it was Vampires and now it's...……….. Got to leave a few surprises for readers to discover when they're reading the book.
Rachael is the newest member of the Dallas SWAT and a woman to boot. Given the thrill of finding their one's for the members of the team who have found them the rest of the team wonders if Rachael could be the one for one of them? but Rachael thinks of them all as her brothers so eww. Fortunately Knox comes into the picture.
Knox is the poster boy for making wrong choices. He quits the seals to join a group hunting werewolves in Dallas where he takes a bullet for Rachael instead of killing her. He then goes to work security for the vampires and again comes to the aid of the werewolves. Now he's becoming a werewolf and knows he needs help but can hardly go to the folks he once attacked. As it turns out both Knox and Rachael find they have a mutual need and can help each other out when they're assigned a security detail which consists of a private group that Knox works for and SWAT.
The story will keep you on your toes with the sweet and tough and the surprising twists and turns including the ones that you never see coming. Even if Knox and Rachael mate will her team mates accept him given that he was responsible for attacking their compound?
Another page turning winner. Please keep them coming Ms. Tyler.

If you think this is just another werewolf story then think again...it's so much more. Rachel's nightmares after her attack are taking over her life. I was actually scared to keep reading, don't we all hate clowns. Knox is he a bad guy or just confused. Plenty of mystery and action in this one. If you love Alpha males, kick arse women, danger and sizzle then this book is for you.

What is a former hunter now turned werewolf to do when he's attracted and stalking a female on the Dallas SWAT team? Get himself chased down by Rachel Bennett when he can't stay away. This book is another in Paige's wonderful SWAT series that introduces a new spirit creature and builds the world even bigger. The possibile stories she gave us clues in the story are huge. I just love it.

Rachel Bennett, one of the 2 female werewolves in Dallas' SWAT team, is thinking she's losing her mind. She's seeing shadows and smelling things her teammates aren't. On top of that she can't sleep because her PTSD nightmares have returned in force. She's exhausted. After waking from another terrifying dream she finally makes out a figure in the shadows while cooling off on her balcony one night. She chases him down and find it's the same guy she couldn't take down when the hunters raided the wedding. He's Knox Lawson and he's become one of them from the injuries in the raid. He just can't stay away from her for some reason and he knows she has answers to how to deal with what is happening to him. We the readers know the are the ONE for each other, mates destined to be together, and she agrees to help him out. He explains he fell into being a hunter without understanding the situation and during the raid he took a bullet for her. He never killed a werewolf and tried to get out at every opportunity after he learned the deal with the hunters. He's now working for Direct Action Private Security that gets hired to protect Jennifer Lloyd who is prosecuting Anton Marshall who rebuilt Walter Hardy's crime syndicate that SWAT took down. SWAT is asked to also aid in Lloyd's security by the new Chief.

Oh I loved how these two seek to protect Jennifer Lloyd and her 16 year old daughter Adalynn. Somehow husband Conrad never seems to need protection. As surprise ambushes happen we see how well Rachel and Knox work together and seek what the heck is really going on. Knox also has a calming influence over Rachel's terror when visited by visions of the clown that attacked her, the event that flipped on the change. We get introduced to a new paranormal creature, a nacht-mahr that's tormenting Rachel. It was a feast for my imagination on this adventure reading the crafting of this story. I loved every minutes.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

He was a hunter; she is a wolf. While her mind is falling to pieces, the man she isn’t sure she can trust helps keep her together. I’ve loved this series and saw the amazing twist it took in the last book opening up the world of the series, but I felt this one hit the happy medium of action-packed, personal crisis, suspense, and sensual romance. Paige Tyler has seriously hit her stride with Wolf Rebel.
Review

Wolf Rebel is the tenth of the SWAT books and is the culmination of Rachel and Knox’s story arc begun in an earlier book so it definitely isn’t one to take out of order.

Rachel has just come back off the big mission in LA and is keeping secrets about her performance ability from her boss. Her PTSD is on the edge and her nightmares are keeping her from sleep and invading her days so she has blackout moments. And, if that wasn’t bad enough, the hunter she should have shot and killed has arrived on her doorstep with a shocking story and asking for her help. Meanwhile, she has to work with Knox on a security detail and she isn’t sure she can trust him or herself at this point. The clock is ticking on which of her secrets will explode in her face first. Rachel is denying a great deal about herself even what she suspects is between her and Knox.

Knox had a moment on one of his Navy SEAL missions that took him out of the SEALs and into one impulsive decision after another with the hunter experience being a stupid and bad one. But, it lead him to Rachel and she can help him figure out the weird thing that is happening to him even as he is there for her to help hold her together through the PTSD nightmares plaguing her into mental breaks. They have a family to guard against a criminal organization who will ruthlessly destroy all witnesses, evidence, and those who work for justice against the head of their business. It’s a struggle to focus on the job when Rachel’s safety, sanity, and well being are what he most cares about.

As I said in my intro, this book seemed to bring it all together. I was one who never forgot that moment when Rachel let a certain hunter live when she had him in her sights and it occurred to me then that it would be interesting if he was her The One. Worst-case, right! What do you do if your soulmate is part of the enemy camp? It was fun to finally explore that one even if there were mitigating circumstances. I also enjoyed exploring further this new broader world now that we know werewolves are only the tip of the claw out there. Wouldn’t it be cool if other paranormals might be a The One for one of the other SWAT team? Though, looks like Mike might be marked for a certain human mate.

There was a lot of action and suspense in this one between Rachel’s nightmare come to life and the crime business guy sending killing crews after the justice folks and witnesses. But, the romance and development didn’t suffer. Rachel and Knox got to know each other’s backgrounds and worked as partners on the job and helping each other through their issues. They had some hot and spicy moments, but that didn’t come first.

The big money scene and afterward with the pack were the best. I flew through this book in nearly one sitting and was left well satisfied. I can’t wait to see what comes next for SWAT or the new spin-off series. Those who love a strong dose of suspense and action with their paranormal romance should definitely give this series a go.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebook Casablanca for the chance to read Wolf rebel by Paige Tyler. It’s always fun to read the next SWAT book, especially after a few heavier books; some alpha werewolfs, hot romance, lots of action. What I really wasn’t expecting was evil clowns! Creepy! Rachel is still having issues from being attacked years ago, and after allowing a hunter to escape the night they attacked her pack she thinks something is really wrong with her. Knox, has been following Rachel for weeks; ever since he took the bullet meant for her, something has been happening to him...he is turning into a werewolf, just like Rachel. Something brought these two together....can Knox be The One for Rachel?

Wolf Rebel is book 10 in Paige Tyler’s SWAT Team series and for those familiar with these books, you will recognise Rachel and her battle with nightmares from a previous mission. Knox and Rachel have history; saving Rachel’s life in L.A. inevitably kicked in his transformation to werewolf and the mysteries surrounding this inexplicable change. After locating Rachel with the intent of getting answers, Knox and Rachel are partnered on a protection detail, but Rachel’s night terrors become exceedingly worse and place her in danger.

Wolf rebel is a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride from start to finish and everywhere in between. As we’ve come to expect from this series and the author’s imagination, there is no shortage of mystery and suspense, deep seated secrets, and some combustible chemistry that will keep you warm at night. I’m hoping we will eventually solve the mystery of Kat and she will be that special “one” for a sexy wolf.

I really loved this story. What a great series this has been so far! Rachel & Knox are absolutely wonderful characters. I love a well done paranormal story line and this truly is that. This is romantic, suspenseful and intense, everything I want in a paranormal romance. Hope this series doesn't end anytime soon.

Rachel was in the Swat teams locker lacing her boots. Rachel looked up and seen the only other female werewolf on the Swat team in Dallas- Khaki. Khaki was also Rachel’s best friend. Khaki told Rachel she looked like she hadn’t slept in a week. Rachel admitted she was still having nightmares. Khaki noticed something wasn’t right after she and some pack mates returned from a fight with a nest of vampires. But Rachel had been dealing with nightmares and other things every since the Werewolf Hunters had attacked the Swat compound two months ago. The night she screwed up and let a hunter get away. A little while after that she started picking up scents that none of the other werewolves in her pack seemed to notice. Scents that both attracted and scared the hell out of her. Even worse were the shadows she caught out of the corner of her eyes-shadows that were frequently horrifying but at other times almost comforting. Was she losing her mind? The nightmares were causing her the most distress. She’d been having traumatic dreams since her change in the cemetery in Chattanooga but they were nothing compared to the terrors she was experiencing lately. Over the past year hunters had become the bogeymen of werewolves. Coming to track down and executing them indiscriminately , as well as any humans who happened to be on the way, friends, loved ones, even kids. They were bloodthirsty and ruthless. Rachel was told Gage wanted to see her in his office. He was the commander of the Dallas Swat Team. Diego came to gage’s office and said the chief just got here and everyone else you asked to see are in the bullpen ready to meet with them. Knox Lawson dropped to lay flat on the roof when Rachel snapped her head around, he was terrified she’d seen him. He had been stalking rachel for two months. Know didn’t have a clue what a werewolf was capable of, especially a female werewolf. He recently came to the conclusion that everything he learned from the other hunters was complete b s. When a male stopped to let rachel go in ahead of him, Knox almost jumped up and was ready to jump from the roof and jump the fence to stop anyone from touching Rachel. Knox stopped himself just in time, fighting for control of the animal inside him that howled at the possibility of another man touching Rachel, what was wrong with him? Swiping her junk mail to learn her name was bad enough but freaking out at the thought of someone else touching her was insane. Knox had bailed on the navy less than a year ago. Knox had spent eight years as a Seal, then he just couldn’t do it anymore. He thought he had found what he was looking for with the hunters until he saw what they did to the werewolves after they caught the, he realized he made the biggest mistake of his life. The werewolves weren't the monster, the hunters were. They were psychotic. But it was too late to back put. It was scary the complete hold a stranger had on him. Knox had been hired by the vampires for private security. The private security was owned by the vampires. Than his boss Dawson called and said they had a new job. Some lady lawyer-Jennifer got herself on the bad side of a bunch of scary dudes and her husband is paying for extra security. But some of the swat werewolves were going to be involved also. The woman was the assistant DA amd was prosecuting a crime lord. Rachel is on the Swat Team protecting Jennifer. Horace Watkins had tried to kill Jennifer.
I loved this book. I loved the paranormal aspect. My heart went out to rachel and all she went through and the nightmares and terror. I loved the action and suspense in this book. I loved that Knox took a bullet for rachel that caused his change. I felt like I was there with Knox and Rachel as i read this. I loved them together. I didn’t want to put this down. I loved the plot and pace of this book. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

Wolf Rebel by Paige Tyler

Romantic paranormal shifter suspense. With a creep factor not usually found in this authors stories.
Gripping, exciting, and satisfying with a bit of sexy play, this couple hurdled the issues to become The One for each other.
An awesome adventure. An easy, fast read.
SWAT seres book 10. Can be read as a standalone but better if at least some of the previous have been read.

A hero:
Excerpt of Knox being a great man. Aaron is an 18 year out boy that tried to step over the friend line with a 16 year old girl. Not a major part of the story, but a good indication of the man Knox is.

“I…um…should get back to the dance,” Aaron stuttered.
“Not until we have a little talk,” Knox said.
The kid swallowed hard. “About what?”
Knox put his hand on the back of the kid’s neck and guided him toward the door. “Consent and what that word means.”
“Okay,” Aaron said nervously.
He steered the kid into the hallway and started back toward the gym. “Then we’ll talk about you finding a girlfriend your own age. And after that, we’ll discuss the way you’re going to treat women from this day forward for the rest of your life.”

⁣There was so much I really enjoyed about this book.⁣

Knox and Rachel weren’t supposed to be together, much less fall in love. He was a former hunter and she was a werewolf. Her ability to forgive him and move past his mistakes was very well written. I really liked how Paige Tyler incorporated this scenario into the book. It really tested the SWAT team and shows how the team was able to overcome their initial feels of Knox. ⁣

Rachel deals with PTSD in this book and I feel like it was very well done. The struggles and stigma of talking about your problems were played out through the book. Paige Tyler talked about the hard parts of PTSD but also how someone with it can cope and live with it while helping others with their struggles. ⁣

There was an introduction to another type of paranormal in this book beyond just werewolves. It brought an interesting twist in the story that gave it a more fantastical element. ⁣

I really like the direction this series is going. It’s evolving into more paranormal and broadening the world beyond Dallas and the SWAT team. ⁣

Overall I really, really liked Knox and Rachel’s love story and I can’t wait to see how they pop up in future books. They were absolutely perfect for each other!⁣

At this point in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series, if you haven’t read all the books, it would be impossible to really get the entire experience related to Paige Tyler’s supernatural SWAT team. The books continue to get better and better. More importantly, Paige has added some very unexpected elements to the series that I didn’t see coming but can totally appreciate.

This time, the focus is on one of the newer SWAT team members, Rachel Bennett. She finds out that “The One” just so happens to be someone that is an enemy of the pack named Knox Lawson. He also saved her life. And up until recently, he hunted werewolves. Rachel’s past has been haunting her ever since she became a werewolf. The circumstances behind her transformation are a key focal point in this book and very intriguing. Knox has his own demons from when he was a Navy Seal. Together, they are very complementary to each other although no one will think that they should be. That’s what makes Wolf Rebel so good. Nothing is what it seems. The action really ramps up as Knox and Rachel end up working side by side to protect the DA and her family from some seriously bad guys. Having been along for the entire ride, I was able to easily follow the action and had a good idea of where everything was going except for a new twist that is thrown in. I won’t spoil it but just as in the last book, it brought more things into perspective.

At 10 books and counting, this Special Wolf Alpha Team series still has plenty left to offer. I have yet to be disappointed and continue to be impressed by Paige’s storytelling. Although werewolf tales are far from new, Paige keeps it fresh. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Another fast-paced, action filled installment in the SWAT series. I love this group of wolves, and am glad that they have not worn out their welcome with me. I fell in love with Knox right away. He’s a strong man out of his depth, yet he keeps his sense of humor. I also related well to Rachel, even though she had some strange stuff going on that stretched my believability. I was worried that it would sour me on the story, but happily it didn’t. (I won’t give out spoilers since I hate that.) I can say that it kept me guessing so that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I also appreciated the lovely romance that didn’t just rely on “the one”. Instead it blossomed and grew into a sexy romance surrounded by danger and intrigue. In other words – fun.

Wolf Rebel (SWAT #10). By Paige Tyler. 2019. Sourcebooks Casablanca (ARC ebook).

Police officer Rachel Bennett has had a rough go of it in the past year. Brutally injured by a crazed man while responding to a dispatch call in a graveyard in the middle of the night, she recovers only to discover that the close call triggered her transformation into a werewolf. Now she’s a member of the Dallas Police Department’s Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT), a division made up of werewolves, and her latest assignment is working a protection detail for an Assistant District Attorney. Plagued by nightmares, strange smells and hallucinations of her attacker, Rachel hopes work will be enough to distract her from her mental crisis, but then she learns that she’ll be working alongside Knox Lawson, and her troubles multiply.

This is new author and series to me. Wolf Rebel is the 10th installment of SWAT, but can be read as a standalone well enough. While there is the standard paranormal fare of fated mates and enemies to lovers, Rachel and Knox’s story switches it up by having her, a relative novice at being a werewolf, training an even newer werewolf in Knox. Wolf Rebel delivers two people pulled together against all odds, but it is more heavy on the action than the romance, and there are some creepy moments where Rachel’s past comes back to haunt her that adds an element of suspense as well as an interesting look into Tyler’s supernatural world. Overall, an action-packed and entertaining read with a bit of steam on the side.

Lots of action and suspense. I like Knox and Rachel together...they have an unusual way they come together. This is more action and suspense than romance. The whole clown thing was super creepy! Well written and worth your time.

What I love most about this series is that it doesn’t take half of the book to get to the origin story of how the characters were “turned”. Because that is one of the first things we learn about them, we’re able to concentrate on the story line without the mystery of how they became a werewolf.

In this addition to the series, the focus is on Knox and Rachel. I like how Rachel’s character had all the power in this story. Even though she was going through some very intense and mentally draining things, she set the pace for the relationship with Knox. Yes, he’s an Alpha, but knew that he needed her to help him navigate his new normal. It made for a different dynamic than in some of the previous books.

The book is fast paced and such an easy read. The last few chapters are extremely exciting and you won’t be able to put it down. Can’t wait for more in this series.

This is the tenth book in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series by Paige Tyler.

I have not read any other books in this series by Tyler and I to say this works perfectly as a standalone. All the characters that are important get a lot of details and the interactions between them all are so genuine. What a well-written paranormal romantic suspense book! There are a lot of great scenes concerning the struggle of being a wolf and the whole structure of how you become an alpha or werewolf was fascinating. Great backstories here.

The book centers on Rachel Bennett, an alpha female werewolf. She has PTSD, or she thinks she does, and it comes in the form of a scary evil clown who seems to show up at every turn. Now, I don’t have a problem with clowns but this seems like the Joker/Heath Leger version which is a particularly spooky adversary. Not going to mention how this entity crops up but this plot point is just so bang on!

Rachel encounters Knox Lawson, former SEAL and newly minted werewolf. He is just coming into his powers and is at odds with it all. He is drawn to Rachel and he believes that she can help him find his way though the werewolf world. The only problem is… he is a werewolf hunter and that makes him not accepted by the pack.

The trust in this story had to build up over time and I thought it was particularly well-done. I am not a big reader of paranormal romances but I thought this series was well thought out and executed with a ton of grace and feeling.

If you are into paranormal romances, definitely check out this book and series, you won’t be disappointed! Another must read author for my TBR shelf.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
