Cute, romantic comedy about Clara and her cat who HATES all of her boyfriends. Does he know more about good guys than Clara does, as her brother implies? Fun book that had me laughing!

Ten Things My Cat Hates About You was a trip back to a 90's or early 2000's rom-com and I adored it. This has the signature bad guy versus good guy aspect but there's a bit of a twist. I loved our MC Clara and all the hijinks her cat Casper got himself into.

The characterization is really strong in this one and we get to watch Clara struggle with what she wants with her life. The side characters really hold their own in this novel. Plus, it has a lovely English setting that had me swooning.

I wish it had a better ending but I think this will be a cute one to read curled up with tea this winter.

This was such an easy, heartwarming read. I loved the main character Clara and her brother Freddie. They've had a tough past and are just coming out the other side with lots of twists and turns. Clara has a rather difficult cat who always causes mischief and hates everyone. The book is full of his cheeky antics and has you laughing out loud a lot! There is also alive to hate character so is a satisfying rom com. I love how autumnal it is with references to my favourite coffees! Very seasonal.

The premise of "Ten Things My Cat Hates About You" is what really hooked me as a cat owner, but I have to say that the story actually fell a bit flat for me. It was really hard for me to really get sucked in or hooked. I felt like it was very shallow, in a way.

Clara is a hopeless romantic with a finicky ginger cat named Casper who hates pretty much any man she brings home other than the ones she isn't interested in romantically. We see him chasing off a guy in the first few pages and a few pages after that it's suggested that he's secretly keeping her safe by running off the wrong sort of guy.

In comes a disastrous meet cute with Professor Adam Warwick (she learns who he is later on) where he swerves to miss Casper with his bike and ends up being quite a jerk about it. He messed up his bike wheel and fell into a bush, but as an alternative to potentially injuring an animal. Maybe I'm just weird.

With another one of Casper's antics we meet contestant number two, a young handsome veterinarian named Josh Granger who Casper loves. Two guesses as to who she ends up with.

There's my problem with the whole book. There isn't anything inherently wrong with the writing or anything, but it just felt very 2005-2008. There were a couple times where the whole "oh men aren't that great because of (sexist reason)" pops up and I had to cringe. Both genders can be sexist, ya know. That and the fight, or one of the final fights that kept the couple apart later in the story was pretty knock down drag out. If someone called me an idiot I don't think I'd be with them. It just didn't feel right to me. The female friendship even had a small jealousy/envy subplot which also felt like it was in bad taste and conflict for the sake of it. I get that friends fight, but it felt fairly juvenile to me.

All in all it's kind of a been there done that sort of book. I've read this formula and they didn't do much to really switch it up. It was an easy read and nothing too memorable.

Ten Things My Cat Hates About You is a fun romantic comedy. Casper is a cat who hates all of Clara's boyfriends and drives them away. He also winds up being the catalyst that brings two new men into Clara's life. The only unbelievable thing about the book is that Casper actually LOVES the veterinarian and doesn't shred him to pieces! I was also pleased that Casper didn't actually talk.

Yay for another cat... eh... love story! Ten Things My Cat Hates About You is a sweet and highly entertaining book:

'Thank heavens technology hasn't yet provided us with the ability to read minds; the day that happens, I'm throwing myself off a bridge. (..) No one can ever find out what weird stuff goes through my head.'

I was really in need of some fun and a happy ending (no spoiler here, I guess). With Cara and the perpetual white lies that get her into trouble she deserves to be on my for-a-rainy-day shelf.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.

I LOVED THIS BOOK.

Ten Things My Cat Hates About You follows twenty-five year old Clara Swift and her romantic escapades as she stumbles through her twenties. Clara thinks her brother Freddie and her best friend Heather both seem to have romance all figured out, but feels that she personally can't get it right. It doesn't help matters that her cat Casper hates every man she brings back to her rainbow-painted house, and that she is still dealing with the death of her parents. The novel sees her date Casper's vet Josh, and befriend a professor in the museum where she works, as she tries to figure out love and everything that comes with it.

I adored Clara; I related a lot to her romantic, whimsical tendencies, and she was so full of life! Exactly who I aspire to be in my twenties (cat included). Her fashion sense, her approach to her career, and her tendencies to fall too fast all made her lovable, and I was rooting for her and Adam the entire way through. I read the book in a few hours and could not put it down. Sometimes you just want a fun rom-com, and I can't imagine a more perfect rom-com than one that involves cats, professors, and a whimsical narrator. Will 100% be purchasing a physical copy to support Lottie when the book releases. Amazing!

It is a fun light read. Casper the cat ties everything together quite well, if it was just the girl alone it would have been really bad. Her mind's scattered, and yet she's always looking on the bright side of life. There are some parts of the book that could have been done better, but overall the story stays true to its title and target. This is a good light read, as long as you don't really think that Casper actually tells her who to date.

I liked the premise of this book, just not the execution so much because I was expecting something lighthearted. I feel like almost everyone in this book was manipulative - the hero, the heroine, the friends... The cat. It got a lot deeper than I thought it would and, eventually, I got SO fed up with the heroines friends trying to interfere in her life that I just skim read the rest (more manipulation and misunderstandings). Everyone seemed quite immature and it's almost as if the book was aimed at teens, not adults.
As always, not a fan of the narrative (first person) and feel like this book had so much potential but was let down by poisonous characters.
1 star.

Clara cat Casper never likes any of her dates. In fact she has had to buy new trousers for her last date. As Casper scratched him!

After a heart to heart with her best friend Heather, Clara thought well if anyone is worth having. Casper will like him. So from then on Casper was in charge of her love life.

So when Casper purs and warms to vet Josh, Clara begin to think well maybe he is the one.

Adam was out cycling home when he swerves to miss Clara cat. He ends up injuring himself.
The next day he was at work when suddenly he found a woman on his lips. And papers all over the floor.... he recongises that woman...

With both men wanting Clara affections who will she end up with?

Wow this book is my new favourite romance book! I am not into romance as they tend to be the same but this book was different.

The title was the first thing that intrigued me. My daughter loves animals and this remind me of her. I can imagine her when she is older with many cats.

I found this book so funny and entertaining. Even laughing out loud at times. It has been a while since I have found a romance author who can make me laugh.

I did find the ending predictable but there were a few crazy and funny stories tucked in to make it worth reading.

Definitely add this book to your list!

3.5* But there weren't 10 things that Casper hated about anyone. He was just a normal, spoilt puss!

I liked Casper the cat most out of the various characters in this, then the vet and then Adam and then Carrie. Not sure that's the right order that the author intended, yet that's how they impacted on me. But, Casper wasn't a monster and was pretty much an average cat who owned some human slaves and who was king of his little castle. In Catlandia, visitors are either approved or rejected, and favours are bestowed or scratches are dispensed - quite normal cat behaviour. Casper didn't hate 10 things, or not that I counted, at least.

In terms of the storyline, it's rather far fetched, but it works. Having visited Cambridge extensively on foot this summer, it was like being back there with the author's descriptions. Though, I'm not sure it's that easy to fall into the Cam, or equally, to get out.

I'm not sure that I loved how the tale ended or who Carrie ended up with. The bout of in vino veritas showed a bit of a bitter, not-that-good-a-friend side of her, so for me, she wasn't a heroine I was rooting for. Now if only Adam and the vet had gotten together....hmmm. Yum. Oh, but to give her her dues, the author writes pretty nicely and I'd read more from her - there aren't enough tales set in the UK by British authors; I think the latter add an authenticity others can't quite match.

This book was cute, quirky, and really fun. Sometimes you just need a romantic comedy in book form to make you feel better because life can be so heavy.

Casper the cat might be my favorite fictional cat of all time. Clara was a great heroine and even though the premise seemed ridiculous, I ended this book with a smile on my face and I can’t wait to see what this author will write in the future.

This book was a bit on the crazy side, and there were times that I wanted to throttle Clara. That being said it does have its good points. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC!

You know when you read a romance and you get all warm and fuzzy and have this goofy sort of smile on your face? Lucas' novel is ideal to get your mind off of things and your heart fluttering.

While romcom is not typically the genre I delve into, I am obsessed with cats and really wanted to give this one a try! I expected some comedy, snark, and sneakiness from a cat hell bent on hating the new man in town. What we get is an angsty cat named Casper who, unfortunately, causes a bike accident instigating a meeting between Adam and Clara. Clara is smitten immediately and runs several scenarios through her head on happily ever afters. Unfortunately he couldn’t pick her face out in a crowd if asked until a second meeting ends in a kiss. Clara brings Casper to yet another vet and meets Josh: the warm and compassionate new vet who believes he can handle Caspers spunkiness.
The book reads like a “dear diary” of a teenager not used to attention and not being able to grasp the nuances of of adult relationships. She plays around with one guy while missing the cues of the other one actually wanting a relationship with her. She believes she’s in a relationship that was never a relationship and almost ends up alone completely.
The cat has little to do with the actual storyline except when she uses the cat to describe her own feelings by playing them off as things the cat dislikes.
Overall the book is a good read and easy to get through as long as you can reminisce your own teenager angst to relate

Oh my gosh, I just loved this book so much! It’s a well written, light, funny, heartfelt romance. As much as I love Clara and her friends, family, and love interests, I think I may have loved Casper the cat best of all! He’s the epitome of grouchy, crazy cat, and a hilarious and integral part of the story. What a character!

I loved the ending and walked away from the book feeling happy for Clara and her love life. Romance comes in many flavors, it’s not a cookie cutter formula, and I think by the end of the book she finally realized that.

Five stars!!

So cute! 4 stars because there were moments that drove me crazy (in a bad way) when I wanted to shake her and Freddie, but otherwise the story was super! I loved Adam and Caspar!

I thought the premise of this book was both unrealistic and promising. Regardless, it was very unique.

We all have a friend like Clara—the one who’s obsessed with romance and pretty much approaches each relationship as if he was The One. With everyone dear to her in a loving relationship, all Clara wants is to find the man of her dreams—and one that won’t run from her obnoxious cat.

Enter Adam Warwick, a professor. A bike riding accident caused by Casper results in Clara meeting him—albeit he never actually sees her face. The next day while trying to escape her boss, she pretends to know — and ends up accidentally kissing him.

But, wait, there’s a second man. Josh Granger is the new vet who offered to take on Casper despite all the terror he’s caused other vets. He’s nice, understands Clara’s love for Casper, and has a great sense of humor.

In most ways this book was pretty predictable. However, I was still often surprised. I genuinely liked the characters and some of them were well developed. I absolutely loved the development of Adam. My only complaint (if I had to give one) was that the beginning was a little predictable and cheesy. I ended up getting super invested in Clara’s story and the ending was excellent.

Ten Things My Cat Hates About You is a fun read about a woman named Clara and her cat who chases away all potential boyfriends, and a grumpy professor of Classical Studies. Yum. This book is full of banter and loveable characters, and the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. If you love reading books set in England (or Cambridge, specifically), I'm sure you'd love this book. If you enjoy history and museums, you'd love it even more.

An incorrigible cat, a handsome vet and a very grumpy Professor, set against the backdrop of Cambridge and its colleges. Not a setup that I'm familiar with (although I do have the incorrigible cat and I'm told that I can be grumpy) but, non the less, I found this a story that I could lose myself in. Whilst Clara finds her way in life she has to balance her job in a small museum with an unexpected visit from her brother, whilst Casper terrorises the neighbourhood and scares away potential boyfriends. Well worth a read.
