This was a lovely collection of fables, each a few pages long. They were nicely simple, with easy to understand concepts and important messages. The settings and characters were a diverse mix, from several different cultures each mirroring different 'traditional' fairy tales. From an adult reader's perspective, some of the stories were a little weirdly paced, but that's not so important when they're intended for children. I could absolutely imagine reading these stories to my nieces before bed, and I fully intend to buy them a copy of this book once it's released.

I love this! I will be buying this for my sort-of-niece! The art is gorgeous, the stories are engaging and have a great theme of princesses and warriors as strong protagonists, rather than the damsels in distress. I know that sounds run of the mill and like every sort of "give them a pink sword, now THEY'RE the heroes!" sort of book for girls that has come out since I was a kid in the 90s, but this book is genuinely quite well thought out and represents different cultures and different aspects of what it means to be a girl in the world. And I really cannot stress enough how gorgeous the illustrations are!!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book to read! I requested it based on the title- I love fairy tales and I'm always looking for stories to read to my 6 year old daughter. What could be better than fearless girls? This is a very interesting collection of stories from different cultures around the world. I like that it is so diverse, I think it's a great collection for budding fearless girls to read. I will say that the age range probably skews older than my daughter- the language is rather dense and would probably work best for 8 and older, but that just means in a couple of years my daughter will be able to enjoy reading this with me!

Thank you so much to Arcturus Publishing/Arcturus Digital for sending me an ebook through NetGalley to review of Fairy Tales for Fearless Girls written by Anita Ganeri.

This was a really fun read, this whole book is female empowerment and I loved every single story in this.

Each character was unique and told a totally different tale, some were the girls being hero’s, some were warriors, some were proving to the men around them that they can do what they can do, others were cunning, smart and independent.

These fairy tales take you all over the world to Russia, India, China, Japan, South & West Africa, Natives in Canada and many more giving you tales of brave girls in cultures you don’t always get to read stories about. This made these stories even more enjoyable to read as the character and cultures made the fairy tales different to any others out there.

I highly recommend this book it sends out a great message to young girls that nothing and no one can stop them, that they can do what they put their minds too and they are smart, brave and talented. Reading this book gives them not only a thoroughly entertaining read but can also inspire them and give them great female hero’s to read about.

I also must point out the beautiful art work throughout this book for each story illustrated by Khoa Le, they really added to the story as you could see the characters and the events that were happening.

These heroines don't sit around waiting for a prince or a Jack to save them; they get on with things themselves, using wit, strength and bravery to overcome obstacles and save the day. These are lesser known stories; I read a lot of folk tales, and I was only familiar with one of these. (Mollie Whuppie, if you're curious.) The illustrations are fantastic and add exactly the right tone. This is a lovely collection and will be very popular.

I love fairy tales, mixed up fairy tales, mythical fairytales, and so this title appealed to me in so many ways.
We talk a lot about girl power and being true to who you are as a woman but our old favourites still paint women as the weaker sex, the ones who must sit and wait for the prince to come rescue them.
In the authors introduction, she explains that this is not that type of book- this is about women who are fierce, determined and active in changing their lives and the world around them. More often than not, they are braver, stronger and more powerful than the men in their stories.
They are all truly excellent and I devoured them. They were well written, short but intense and I enjoyed the differences between cultures.
I highly recommend anyone with a daughter to get this book and share it frequently.
I will be buying this title for my school as I think it will fly off the shelves....girls are looking for more from their heroines now and this book gives them more!

Thank you to NetGalley and Arcturus Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Though I am not the target audience for this book I really did enjoy the message that it was putting across. Fairy Tales for Fearless Girls is just that, a collection of diverse females who are strong and incredibly brave. It shows their sacrifice, their strength and most of all the confidence they have in themselves.

I love Disney but I must admit that the traditional stories didn’t help with woman empowerment instead it taught girls that you need true love in order to survive and strive. This book does the complete opposite, it takes girls from all around the world and shows that they don’t care about social norms and to quote the introduction “couldn’t give two hoots about doing what is expected of them”.

I really liked this, and I love the message its giving to young girls.

Thank you for Netgalley and Arcturus for an advanced copy of this.

Whilst we are not short of stories of brave young girls/women of late, I really like the multicultural and multinational aspect of this collection. There are a number of these kinds of books around but I have not yet seen any with such a diverse collection of stories. In additional, there is a strong sense of family and sisterhood woven throughout the stories which I greatly appreciate.

I am not the target audience for this collection but I enjoyed it none the less! I read the collection in one sitting and thought the art was lovely and fitted well with the writing.

I will say, there was a few mentions of beauty throughout some stories which I think could be completely removed as they do not add value and hark back too closely to the female stories of old. They are few and far between but it is something I do not enjoy or think necessary, however it did not damper my enjoyment of the other stories.

4/5
