The poetry wasn’t bad, a bit abstract at times, but not bad. Very readable. Someone really needs to fix the cover, though. The cover looks like it’s from a bad Wattpad fanfiction.

I have to say, I was very disappointed in this one. The poems are really bland and doesn't feel lyrical even if some sentences ended in rhymes. It was very repetitive and cringey too. It feels like she's writing down her thoughts whenever they cross her mind rather than poems even for an instapoem while some feels more like a story telling.

The author feels very confrontational, rude and derogatory at some of them despite her writing a poem to keep the "pride" in check.

Overall, I understand the message and warning in some of the poems but I didn't like any of the delivery that it was really hard for me to read through the whole book.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with the digital copy for an honest review.

The poems are on the long side - some are up to four pages. There area few that are under five or six lines. A few different social issues are written about. Good if you like longer poems. They are story-like.

I thought the topics this poetry collection touched on are very important and significant. However, I can't say I loved it. I'm not a big fan of this type of poetry in specific, but i's good for what it is. Just personally not my favorite.

Ewana Hines writes with a clear voice in lyrical verses. Excerpts from an Abstract Mind is the perfect choice for readers looking for a poet who tells a story like it is a song.

I liked the breadth of subject matter in this anthology, but the writing lacked depth and I found the imagery underdeveloped, the phrasing awkward. I think the title holds great promise, but the content falls short.

I tried really hard to like this book, but finally gave in to the fact that it is just not my style of writing. Not to say that there was anything wrong. The poems flowed and expressed feelings wonderfully.

This wasn't good. The ideas were simplistic and explored in uninteresting ways, the imagery and phrases used cliche, and the images scattered throughout the text basic stock imagery that didn't contribute anything to the poetry. Definitely recommend a pass on this one.
