I overall loved this book but kept taking breaks and coming back to it. I love how the story flows as it switches between the past and present. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Hamilton has written a non stop thriller. It's about the future where mankind runs up against an alien race that has designs on humanity. My only disappointment was reaching the end of the book.

The reader is in the dark about a great many details until near the end of the book. It seems that this is Hamilton's way of helping to build suspense and helping to overcome the rather slow pace of narration. Even if the pacing is not exactly that of a thriller, Salvation Lost is sure to be engrossing for Hamilton's fans and others who don't mind a bit more leisurely stroll through a book.

So, wow, the story seriously shifts into gear with this second installment in Peter Hamilton's newest trilogy. This is galaxy-spanning, alien apocalypse mania. Instant galactic travel via quantum spatial entanglement, gender (and age) bending bio-engineering, extreme terraforming, von Neumann style self-replicating tech and more, even some cyberpunk vibes, mix with a thrilling story of humanity's fight for survival against an enemy of implacable, highly advanced alien zealots. Part War of the Worlds, part Battlestar Galactica and even part Ender's Game, this is a thrilling ride. Can't wait for the next book.

Salvation Lost by Peter F. Hamilton- The 2nd book in the Salvation trilogy- This is where the Shit hits the Fan! All the buildup of discovery and intrigue from the first book erupt into a full-on alien invasion, which gets more and more desperate and hopeless with every passing moment. Lots of action, surprise, and shock! The story rotates around from character to character, story-line to story-line, all centering on the overwhelming catastrophe happening to each participant and humanity in general. Sometimes, and I’ve thought this in the past, Hamilton could be tighter with his revelations, such as philosophical conversations that go back and forth way past their point, but for genuine wonder and excitement, he is a master storyteller. Now we have to wait until next year to see what else happens, but don’t let that stop you from reading this now. A great read!

Unfortunately this is not a stand-alone book and is a part if a trilogy series in which I've not had the pleasure of reading which I did not realize when requesting to review this book. Unfortunately it would have been hard for to grasp the story, characters and concept so I have decided to not finish the book "Salvation Lost" and will most likely be picked back up again in the future once I read the previous books in the series. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for taking the time to provide me an ARC of this novel.

Utopia isn't all it's cracked up to be. A futuristic society is teetering on the brink of doom when an alien race arrives, and humanity finds itself united in defending Earth against their incursion.

This book has some adult topics, and if children wish to read it, read it yourself first.

"Salvation Lost" makes me think of "Blade Runner" with a sharper edge. There's always darkness looming over you as you read these pages.
