Darcey Burke never disappoints
Can’t recommend it enough great read for a hot summers day

I just love a good caper, and this book included a good one! It embodied strong women, and the men that support fairness and equality. I’m sad that the series has ended, but it ended on such a good and satisfying note. Can’t wait to read the series again!

Reverend Hugh Tarleton does not like Society ladies and has very little use for their false piety and misguided charity. Okay, y’all. What IS it about a good defrocking that makes us all go into a frenzy? I mean, Hugh is a Rector and, therefore, not expected take a vow of chastity but STILL. I would be lying if there wasn’t something even *more* sexy about Hugh *because* he’s a man of the cloth. Shew, y’all. Is it just me? Hmm? Did someone let a cricket in?

Anyway, Hugh is a sexy lovemuffin who is always doing terribly adorable things like ruffling the hair of orphans and checking in on widows and helping street ruffians find gainful employment. (I know. He’s the WORST.) And Penelope? I instantly liked her, too. This poor girl has grown up in a loveless home with a monster of a Marchioness for a father who will marry her off to the suitor most able to fill his purse and further his status. AND YET she has not allowed any of that to dull her shine.

It’s all adorable hijinks and shenanigans and lovely banter and chemistry. Burke does an excellent job of gently ratcheting up the tension so that, by the time our dear Hugh stops being *such* a precious angel baby man and hauls Pen into an alcove, we are panting for it.

I really enjoyed this book and flew through it. It’s a fun, light regency romance that doesn’t try to bury the plot in unnecessary “mystery” but has grand fun being exactly what it is - rompy, Regency instalove. Hugh is a muffin, Penelope is a delight, and this book proves that sometimes the family you make for yourself is the one that matters most.

Kiss and Tell:
This book has amazing kissing, some good, old-fashioned, Regency fingerbanging, and p&v sex. Burke will make you wait until nearly the very end for the dirty dirty, but it’s worth it. So sweet, so sexy, and so tender without the dialogue ever feeling cheesy.

A great holiday read

One Night of Temptation is a quick entertaining regency romance. It has a little heat (there is one love scene), and of course Ms. Burke’s reliable writing shines as always.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A solid romance set in 1800s England. Lady Penelope is an upper crust girl who is betrothed to be married to a man that she hates and will do anything to avoid the marriage. Rector Tartleton is a man of faith who is willing to help anyone in need. When Penelope's plans go awry, the rector becomes her refuge and sparks ensure. The pacing is quick, the story plays out steadily, although I didn't care much for the insta-love.

I love a good historical romance and I thoroughly enjoyed this one :)

Rector Hugh Tarleton has no patience for the Society philanthropists who seek to bestow their pity and not much else on his oppressed flock in one of London’s worst neighborhoods. This is the 6th book in the Wicked Dukes Series alternately written between Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley. Not only do I love little short stories (I think this one was something like less than 200 pages) but I love that these stories have a feminist slant to them. So often you read historical books and you cannot help evaluate cultural differences compared against today's standards. I like that these books sort of mention that and move along those veins.

So this little diddy involves Lady Penelope Wakefield, daughter of a Marquess, whose parents have set her up to be betrothed to Earl of Findon, a man old enough to be her grandfather. Her parents are horrible people only caring about what the match could do for them and the power it would bring. The Earl is a nasty old man who is, ugh,-- just the worst. Penelope, in an act of sheer desperation, hatches a plan with another young lady to stage a kidnapping, that would be announced not only to her parents but the papers so that she can publicly ruin herself. Little does she know, you cannot trust everyone and Penelope's staged kidnapping soon turns into a real one.

Hugh Tarleton, the rector of a church in a bad part of town where Penelope's mother and her 'ladies' donate items, rescues Penelope from her botched plan. Not only does he swoop in and save the day, but he also sits down with her and listens to whyever a young virtuous young lady would choose such a scheme, and he helps her continue her original plan.

Both Penelope and Hugh find the other to be not quite what they ever imagined the other to be. Penelope, able to finally experience some freedom in her life, begins to question who she is, why she feels certain ways about things, and the actual necessity for things her parents have told her to value. In talking to Hugh, him not understanding all the ins and outs of society, he helps her understand how she could function outside of her privileged life. As the two get to know each other, the sparks start to fly and Penelope begins to wonder if she is going to pretend to be ruined, maybe she should actually do what she will surely be labeled as.

The book can be read as a stand-alone. You do get involvement from characters previously featured in the series and will miss some of the backstory connections, but you won't be missing anything pivotal to the plot.

I recommend this book for readers who like short stories, historical romances with a bit of a rebellious slant, and a sweet love connection.

One Night of Temptation by Darcy Burke is book 6 in the Wicked Dukes Club Series. This is the story of Hugh Tarleton and Penelope Wakefield. I have read the previous books but feel you could make this a standalone book.
Penelope's father is setting up a marriage for her to someone that could be her grandfather, so she set a plan in motion to avoid it. But her plan goes wrong which leads her to Hugh. Hugh tries to help Penelope which leads to them getting to know each other. When they think it is safe for Penelope to return home she does but then Hugh learns that their plan didn't work. Although he has no title to offer her which is what held him back he now doesn't want to loose her.
Enjoyed their story.

Pen and Hugh had chemistry right from the beginning of this book. I couldn't wait to turn the page and see what was going to happen next. They were so right for each other.. This series is so good, I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

I fell in love with ONE NIGHT OF TEMPTATION almost as quickly as Hugh and Pen became attracted to each other – and that’s not a bad thing at all. I don’t mind instant attraction as some people do. Sometimes a person just “knows”, follows their instinct that another person is someone they want to know and be with – there is nothing wrong with that. I see the draw that Hugh and Pen had toward each other not as strictly love at first sight, but definitely attraction and interest at first glance.

Penelope is facing a horrid future as the wife of an odious man old enough to be her grandfather simply because of her father’s political aspirations. She sets out to bring about her own “ruination” but reality quickly sets in when things do not go as planned. Hugh comes to her rescue and is the first person to actually listen to her concerns, her fears as he offers her what help he can. They are socially too distant for anything to come of their attraction – or are they? With a bit of help from Hugh’s friends in the Wicked Dukes Club who knows what might happen for them?

I enjoyed this couple and was delighted to run into old friends from the previous stories as well. ONE NIGHT OF TEMPTATION wraps up this series with a story that will touch your heart, give you a few chuckles, a definite sexual tension filled romance that keeps in mind that Hugh is, in fact, a rector and Pen is a society lady. I had fun with this one and I’ll admit that I’m sorry to see this series come to an end. Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke made this duo author series lively, entertaining, sensuous and full of characters that I’d love to have as friends. So when can we expect you ladies to pair up again? (hopeful smile)

A wonderful ending to the series, we are treated to Hugh and Penelope trying to find love. He's a third son and she's set up to marry nobility, so the odds are against them. And yet, they cannot resist each other.
Delightful, sexy and a great read.

A very quick yet highly entertaining, emotional, fun and witty adventure filled with scandal, romance, danger and undeniable passion .. was a thrilling read from beginning to end and I enjoyed every heart pounding moment. Great reading!

One Night Of Temptation, by Darcy Burke, is the last story in the Wicked Dukes series. Available at booksellers and on-line on 6-25-19, even though it's part of a series it works very well as a stand alone. I think you'll like the characters enough to backtrack to the beginning. This series was written by Ms Burke and Erica Ridley, 3 books each, intertwining characters must have been brain taxing, but they pulled it off.

Our female lead is Lady Penelope Wakefield, daughter of a marquess, expected to do what she's told and marry an old man, grandpa age & not nice. Pen hatches a plot to get away with a "friend", who double crosses her. Mr. Hugh Tarleton, parish rector in St Giles, saves the day just like a knight of old. He's got to be one of the most laid-back, sweet, helpful men I've read in a long time. He may be a rector but he has values that all people should aspire to, like The Golden Rules.

When Hugh hears Pens story he agrees to shelter her for 1 night, then she goes home. 1 night is not going to be enough, forever sounds more like it. Pen is a nice, thoughtful, lady who is ecstatic to find love, she didn't think she'd ever have that option. They're perfect for each other. Loyal, empathic, helpful, loving people who'll be terrific as a team and you just know the parish is in good hands. No rogues, no tiresome balls or visiting hours. This book is all about people, feelings, determination and love. I liked that. Happy reading.

She must escape this marriage. So she arranges to have herself kidnapped.
But the kidnapping turns real and she is saved by Hugh Tarelton, the minister of the parish in St.Giles. After hearing her story, Hugh decides to give her protection for 24 hours, hoping that will be enough for people to think she is ruined and therefore ending her betrothal.
They spend that 24 hours talking, playing cards and just getting to know each other.
Will all they do be enough?
This was a quick read. The story flows nicely. I have enjoyed the Wicked Duke series.

I was gifted this book. And I am I glad.
I think the very best thing I liked about this book is that i met the other characters In the previous books. Well this is fine as a standalone I love it when other characters are introduced.

This is the story of Eva and Hugh. A rector and a lady. Of course we have conflict. Others will tell you the story I will tell you the emotions. And this book is filled with emotions. It has villains you love to hate. It has a strong woman who is willing to fight for what she wants. You have a wonderful gentle man who suddenly find what he has been looking for. And you have an ending where you were stand up and cheer. I think we’ve already gone through all the characters from the Wicked duke pub. There’s no reason she had to say the end, we had an epilogue which I always love. Perhaps she’ll do a book and all the characters and the outcomes of their lives.

The Wicked Duke is a family!

Cinderella in reverse? Not the scullery maid but the downtrodden daughter of a marquess who's family has ensured here engagement to a rancid roue, the Earl of Findon, old enough to be her grandfather.
Careful planning has Lady Penelope Wakefield, daughter of the Marquess of Bramber, sneaking away from her dreadful companion whilst at the British Museum. Her plan is to be supposedly kidnapped, have the news published in the Times, setting her beyond the pale, compromised and therefore having the Earl refuse to marry her. Of course things don't go to plan and that's when Rector Hugh Tarleton rescues Pen.
Cupid's arrow does the rest and the story continues with Pen's predicament not resolving as she'd hoped and Hugh trying to think of a plan.
Hugh is certainly a most unexpected rector, but then his parish is in the heart of the rookeries, and so I guess we must allow him his humanness, because he certainly sees plenty.
I just loved the premise of the story, but unfortunately in the actual reading, I found Hugh and Pen's interactions somewhat wooden. Their conversations did not sparkle. The heart was there but that special something, that liveliness, was missing.
However, if your a fan of the Dukes Tavern series you will want to read Hugh and Pen's story.
I'm a little unsure as to why we focused on Pen's love of cream cheese, but when a poor little rich girl has so few opportunities of enjoyment I suppose this will do.
Of course the gaggle of denizens of Dukes Tavern we've seen already become involved in making things happen. Even though that is just a little to contrived, it does underscore the strengths that the tavern is and the sense of support, belonging and togetherness it is.

Like the other Wicked Duke books, One Night of Temptation was a whirlwind romance that was equal parts romantic and steamy. Hugh and Penelope were so much fun to watch. Their interactions were sweet with an undercurrent of desire that slowly heated the longer they spent together.

This won’t be a favorite of mine out of the series as much as I wanted to love Hugh because I adore that name. I think I would have been more invested or at least had a basic understanding of the motivation behind Penelope’s intense desire to flee with a bit more background on the family dynamics. Sure, her soon-to-be-betrothed was skeezy but I didn’t understand why she had zero relationships with others outside her family. Her family was micromanaging but it just seems as though she should have had someone. Hugh was a well-rounded character but towards the end, he kind of abandons his man of God routine for a few scenes. I ended up thinking of him as a normal joe rather than a church leader because it made the storyline a bit more believable for me. In the end, I think I'm just greedy and want the stories to be longer so I have more time with all these wonderful characters (the skeeze balls are not included.)

Overall, this was a sweet, uncomplicated ending to our time with the Wicked Dukes Club and all the delightful couples we have come to enjoy through the series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading both Ridley’s and Burke’s takes and I look forward to reading their future work!
