This is my fai4 and honest review in exchange for this ARC. I am a big fan of Ms Burke but i found this book a bit of a disappointment. Do not get me wrong, the writing is as good as ever. The story just seemd to be a bit hurried.

And this is already the last of the Wicked Duke series! I loved all of them, both written by Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke. The last story is about Lady Penelope Wakefield, who is unwillingly betrothed to a man, old enough to be her grandfather. Because her parents are only interested in their good fortune and name, by marrying their daughter of to the best option, she doesn't have a say in her life. So, she comes up with a plan to have herself 'kidnapped' and then she will be spoiled for her betrothed, since he was adamant she should be an untouched virgin. When Lady Penelope will be gone for at least one night, then nobody can guarantee her virtue any longer. However, since she has little to no friends, she ends up being kidnapped for real!
Fortunately she is saved by Hugh Tarleton, the rector of the Church of St. Giles. We had already met Hugh in the previous parts of the series, when he was having a drink with his friends in the Wicked Duke. Hugh doesn't care for society and all the snobs there. He wants to be there for his parishioners and has little patience for all the snotty society figures who look down upon the commoners.
When he learns of Penelope's faith, he decides to help her hide for one night, to help her follow through with her plan. What he didn't realize, was that he feels attracted to the strong and friendly Penelope. How can two cruel people have brought up a wonderful woman like Penelope? It takes all of his willpower, not to spoil Penelope in their night together. But when it looks like Penelope's plan is going to fail, Hugh has to decide, whether he will step up and confront society or not... Find out for yourself in this wonderful read! This story surprised me in the very best of ways. When it started off, I had no idea how it was going to get us where it looked like we were going. First off, we have our clergyman hero. All Thorn Birds references aside, I was a little concerned by the possibility of intimate encounters with a man of the cloth. The author handles the situation with a deft skill I can only admire. But this paled in comparison to the obstacles of our heroine’s parents, the fiancé her father wants her to marry, and the very large difference in the social stations between Penelope and Hugh. This was all handled with some delightfully clever plotting that brought all the previous books’ heroes and heroines back to play. What we get from this is the adorably sweet, yet still a little spicy, story of Penelope and Hugh overcoming the odds. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and I find I’m reluctant to say “goodbye” to these characters.

Book 6 in this fine series features Lady Penelope Wakefield and Rector Hugh Tarleton. Desperate to avoid marriage to the man selected by her parents, Penelope stages a fake abduction, assuming that she will then be ruined and her intended will reject her. Her fake kidnapping turns real, but is thwarted by Rector Tarleton who takes her in for the night. Characters from the earlier books in the series make brief appearances, with the dukes and their wives serving a “deus ex-machina” function to expedite the happy ending, but the romance between Hugh and Penelope develops realistically, albeit slowly but surely. Penelope’s overbearing father and status-conscious mother are broadly drawn stereotypes, but are such minor characters that it doesn’t impede enjoyment of the story.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I loved that Hugh was a rector, yet the heroine tempted him . Of course it was true love and HEA. This entire series , including the books from Erica Ridley, have been well worth reading. They are easy to read,, by that i mean they don't bog you down and are lighthearted. I would recommend anyone who wants a quick read, with HEA in regency romance should give these a try.

This wickedly wonderful story is another in the Wicked Dukes Club by author Darcy Burke. If you are familiar with this series, you will find it refreshingly romantic with appearances by some of the familiar characters in this very well written series.
This is the story of Lady Penelope Wakefield and Rector Hugh Tarleton.
Lady Penelope is the daughter of the Marquess of Bamber. She’s just turned twenty-one and has not gotten an offer of marriage, so her father has begun the process of bethrothal to the Earl of Findon, a man old enough to be her grandfather. She’s determined to escape her fate, so she hires someone to pretend to kidnap her. She figures if she stays out overnight, she’ll be ruined,
and the marriage will be off.
Hugh Tarleton is a rector in St. Giles parish, a rough and tumble area. He’s not exactly the picture of what you think of as a “man of the cloth”. He’s handsome, large build, and very muscled. He’s also gentle, patient, and honorable.
Hugh sees her being kidnapped for real, and steps in to protect her. When she explains her problem and what happened, he decides to help her as much as possible. The more time they spend together, the more they fall in love.
That’s the setup. Of course, there’s much more, but I don’t want to spoil the story for you. Grab a copy and curl up for a wonderful and heart throbbing read. Author Darcy Burke has added this truly marvelous love story to her Wicked Dukes series, you don’t want to miss it!

One Night of Temptation is the next book in the Wicked Dukes Club and is a historical romance whose main characters are of differing stations in society. With a domineering marquess for a father planning her engagement, Lady Penelope Wakefield decides to run away instead of marrying someone old enough to be her grandfather. She runs straight into the arms of kidnappers until the dashing rector, Hugh Tarleton, comes to the rescue. Determined that Penelope be ruined to avoid marriage, the duo stay in an inn over night where the lady tempts the do gooder Rector. Lady Penelope returns home to find nothing is changed and no one knows of her kidnapping. Hopeless in love and hopelessly mixed matched socially, Hugh and Penelope will resort to extreme measures to find a HEA. A love story that goes from acquaintances to hopelessly in love from 0 to 60, the sweet story moves fast and features the characters from the series in the peripheral. The Lady manages to tempt the Rector to set aside his morals for "One Night of Temptation" and causes my biggest dilemma in liking this story because the sainted Hugh seems to fall a little quickly into temptation. I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to see things don’t always have to go as planned! Penelope and Hugh find love in the most unexpected way. Wonderful romance.

This book is the last of the 6 books in the series by a pair of best selling authors. I have read and enjoyed all six but the last two book had an interesting twist to their premise.
Rather than pairing two young people of the aristocratic class these have seemingly crossed over. There is the fact that in this one the Rector was born into an aristocratic family but being a third son he was expected to find his way in the military but chose instead the clergy.
Although this twist seemed to throw me off as I am used to the usual rather than the unusual this was still a very enjoyable book and received 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization.
I received a digital ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this novella which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Rector Hugh Tarleton (The last of the "family" from the WDC) Lady Penelope Wakefield ( being forced to marry an old lech friend of her father's) She has a plan to preserve her freedom but she is rescued by the rector... I was so happy to touch base with all the other members of the WDC and their wives... There are laughs, tears, angst, mean folks and steamy stuff all leading to a very HEA...and end to a wonderful series that I hate to see end.

The cynic in me would love to point out that this book is so much over the top. I mean. A rector with a parish in St. Giles of all places. And a Lady. But it was done very well, and I ended up being charmed despite being a a bit of a curmudgeon.

Hugh and Penelope were a lovely couple! Hugh is a lovely addition to a series with perfectly normal, average, and, above all, nice heroes.

This unlikely couple meets when Lady Penelope's plan to ruin herself to avoid marriage to a lecherous marquess her father has picked out after her failure to attract a suitor on her own goes terribly wrong. They only spend an evening and a night together, but because Darcy Burke is a great writer, even I ended up believing in their happy end.

This is a truly lovely series, with genuinely nice people you want to spend time with. If you're looking for a lovely collection of short novellas, I can only recommend this series!

This last book in the Wicked Dukes series by both Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley was a great ending to a delightful series.
I love historical romances that have a hero/heroine who is not part of the peerage. A commoner, and in this case, a Rector. When Lady Penelope tries to escape an unwanted marriage she finds herself in an unlucky situation. Rector Hugh Tarleton comes to the rescue. From there they discover their mutual desire to help those in need and their desire for each other.
The relationship that developed between these two characters was sweet. They talked a lot, asked great questions of each other and learned about each other in such a short amount of time. I loved seeing all of the series characters come together in the end to help them wed.
Looking forward to more stories from these great authors.

This book is a very nice,sweet romance between Hugh, a Rector and Lady Penelope who has cold unloving parents. They meet when Pen tries to run away for a night so she does not have to marry a man her father is forcing her to marry who is old enough to be her Grandfather. Hugh runs into her while she is in trouble and he is kind, caring, honorable and very protective of her.
This is the final book of the “Wicked Dukes Club” and it was a nice end. The characters from the other books appear and help Hugh and Pen. Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley did a great job with this series. I really enjoyed every book.

Excellent tension between a true blue hero and a heroine whose attempts to rescue herself from an arranged marriage hit a significant snag.

Lady Penelope has developed a plan to help her get away from the odious man that her father has found for her to marry. She has been deceived by the ones which are supposed to help her and is now being kidnapped. She is rescued by a Rector, named Hugh Tarleton. He is handsome and kind. Penelope and Hugh find that they have more in common than either realize. They fall in love, but Hugh is considered beneath her. With the the help of all the friends, whom Hugh considers family from The Wicked Duke, it becomes a reality. I really loved this book. Since Hugh is a Rector, I wondered how it would be handled. I loved the way Hugh held on to his character and still won the girl. It was a great story. I received this book from Net Galley and Darcy Burke Publishing for a honest review. This is the last book of the Wicked Dukes Club, which is sad because I have loved the series. The series started off awesome and ends with another awesome book. The book has an unusual hero, Rector Hugh Tarleton, who is so good and kind. Hugh rescues Lady Penelope from an attempted kidnapping and then helps her by keeping her safe throughout the night while she tries to end her engagement. I loved seeing Penelope grow into a strong, independent woman. Hugh and Penelope were such amazing characters! I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books appear at the ending since the men from the club helped each other to find their HEA. This is a MUST read series and I know I will be rereading it again. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A great ending to a fantastic series. This is the perfect ending to this series of the Wicked Dukes Club. You always wonder how an author will handle a rector hero in a story. This was done with great respect and lovely writing. Hugh and Penelope fall in love quickly but Ms. Burke’s storytelling compels you to believe that their love was fast and ardent. A very romantic story.

I’m sorry, but Lady Penelope is such a bore, where is her inner strength in speaking for herself, she sits and allow her parents to run rough shoes over her. I personally find Penelope could have put up more of a fight with her parents instead of doing everything they ordered, she is such a softy and eager to please person, argh, she makes me angry. All in all a delightfully entertaining read.

This is the last book in the "Wicked Dukes Club" and it's another enjoyable read. Rector Hugh Tarleton is a kind and caring man who tries to help those less fortunate. When he rescues Miss Penelope Wakefield from an apparent kidnapping, he is drawn to the young woman. As she reveals why she was in a bad neighborhood, Hugh begins to understand her plight. Throughout their night together, Hugh cannot deny his growing feelings for Penelope. Can he rescue her one last time?

Ms. Burke has written another story with such likable characters. As a rector, Hugh holds himself to a higher standard and I was happy to see this didn't change throughout the book. This is a quick read. I read it in one sitting and loved how the HEA ending came about for Hugh and Penelope.

Since her father has lost patience with her and arranged an odious marriage to a man twice her age, Lady Penelope Wakefield must take things into her own hands if she hopes to gain her freedom. Everything is going to plan until her friend betrays her and she winds up in the midst of a true kidnapping and is rescued by an attractive, if a bit arrogant, rector.

Rector Hugh Tarleton has lost his patience with members of high society who offer pity to his parishioners and not much else. Despite being highborn serving in one of the worst rookeries of London, Hugh is well respected and takes the kidnapped daughter of a marquess under his protection. Since she was taken in and betrayed by someone at his church, Hugh feels responsible for Penelope's safety and very soon she has him reevaluating his preconceived notions of society ladies.

As they spend the night forced together in close quarters, their chemistry ignites and Hugh begins to wonder just how he'll bear returning Penelope to parents who clearly don't appreciate her. One night will never be enough, but he knows she'll never be allowed a future with him. Unless she can take a chance on changing her fate.

This was a fun read and it was nice to see more of the quiet and kind Hugh and to see Penelope stand up for herself and create her own family. This has been a delightful series and this was a wonderful conclusion with all of the characters together again. I'm sad to see this one end.
