For a lot of people starting a family is quite easy. For other couples it’s like a dream that never seems to come true. Fortunately there are solutions like IVF or adoption, but not everybody qualifies for either. There is one option left: surrogacy.

I knew it existed, but I thought it were often family members or close friends who would use this method, not complete strangers. But why not? If people can help each other and they click straight away, there is no reason why it should not be possible.

Charlotte is one of the angels who decides to help a couple who have not been blessed with a baby yet. Because there is no real law around surrogacy, both parties draw up a kind of contract containing do’s and don’ts.

Charlotte and her husband Steve sometimes felt there was something not quite right with the intended parents, but they blamed it on stress. Finally it’s time to hand over the precious cargo, but when they loose contact, Charlotte and Steve start to get seriously worried…

This was a wonderful, amazing story. I laughed and cried with Charlotte and Steve is a perfect husband and dad to their daughter Alice.

I was totally blown away by the book and I was fascinated by it’s subject. I started googling surrogacy, because I was curious to find out what kind of laws we have in Belgium. Well, in a time where there are rules for almost anything, I was surprised we don’t have any legislation here either. It’s such a delicate matter, why is this not protected by some laws? Unbelievable!

I loved this book. The author’s storytelling was fantastic. I cannot wait to read more books by her hand. 5 stars.

Thank you

This is a brilliantly written debut novel. When I read the blurb I couldn’t wait to read it. I wasn’t disappointed. Once I started reading it I honestly couldn’t put it down.

Charlotte wants to help others feel the joy of being parents like she has herself. When she meets Malcolm and Brenda on a surrogacy website she agrees to help them. Handing over their twins is hard but Charlotte believes she is doing the right thing. That is until secrets are revealed and Charlotte wonders did she really know anything about the couple.

When the couple disappears she needs to find her babies.

A great read from start to finish. I’m so looking forward to reading more from this author.

I was immediately drawn to the premise of this book. It's intriguing and unusual but possible. Ruby Speechley does a wonderful job in weaving the narrative threads together and I kept coming back to it, eager to find out how it unfolded. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

It took a little while to get going but I was gripped once it did. Ive not read about this particular topic before so it felt unique, albeit a disturbing one. I'll definitely look out for more from the author in the future.

This is the first book by an author that really must be watched in future. It was gripping, thrilling and the whole time the solution to the twists is dangled in front of the reader, but never really within reach. It was a brilliant read and I can't wait to get my teeth into the next one! Recommended.

Okay, so first off, I'm going to post a trigger warning. This book focuses a lot on baby loss; miscarriages, still births, infertility and surrogacy. As someone who has had to deal with the loss of babies, some of this was a little upsetting.
However... I loved this book. I loved the synopsis, I loved how twisty it got and I loved how much it had me guessing til the end. I did correctly guess one of the little twists but everything else had my mind racing.
I believe this is the authors debut and I highly recommend it. I can't wait to read more.

This was a very enjoyable read and keeps you on the edge of your seat at times. The story itself was interesting. The characters and the setting was great and the style of writing was perfect.. easy to get into. This is the first book that I’ve read by this author, but I’ll be keeping my eye out for more in the future. I’d recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading this genre.

4☆ A Gripping, Poignant, Unique Thriller

SOMEONE ELSE'S BABY is a Poignant, Gripping, Thought Provoking, Unique Thriller.

When Charlotte decides to become a surrogate, she believes she's found the perfect couple in Malcolm and Brenda.
So when things start moving ahead and Charlotte falls pregnant with Twins, she is over the moon for the couple.

But things start to take a sinister and dark turn when Malcolm and Brenda disappear without a trace, taking the Twin Babies and Charlotte's final payment.

Charlotte is beside herself and fears for the children's safety. So its a race agsinst time to find the twins before it's too late.

SOMEONE ELSE'S BABY is a Compelling and Enthralling, At times Emotional,Thought Provoking Thriller.
It deals with surrogacy, the dangers, Motherhood, pregnancy, grief, miscarriages and Relationships.
The Characters are complex, relatable and very well written.
There are some sensitive subjects such as surrogacy and loss but it's clear to see the Author has put alot of research and sensitivity to still make an impact.

The plot is pacy, gripping, twisty, suspenseful, with a twist of mystery and plenty of thriller that made for a compulsive read that will get under your skin and certainly leave you questioning things!

Overall a fantastic debut novel I highly recommend reading.
I'm looking forward to discovering more from Ruby Speechley!

This book was not for me, but was well written and engaging. The topic, was too much, as a mother for me to handle! Recommend to others who are okay with tough subjects surrounding children!

This book touches on some tough subjects and harsh realities. While it is a thriller, fast paced and exciting, it is also heartbreaking and moving. You almost don't want there to be a resolution as much as you need there to be one. It was a little slow in parts, but generally it was a good thriller.

My 4* review for Someone Else's Baby by Ruby Speechley.

"She gave away her children. Now she wants them back.

Charlotte watched her Mum go through many miscarriages, and now she is a Mum herself she wants to help other childless couples become parents. When she meets Malcolm and Brenda on a surrogacy website, it seems that she has found the perfect couple. In their late forties, they’ve spent their life building a successful business and traveling the world, but there’s just one thing missing – a child of their own. When Charlotte falls pregnant with twins, the pair are overjoyed. And while Charlotte’s heart breaks as she hands them over, her reward is knowing how much happiness the two tiny babies are going to bring into their life.

But are Malcolm and Brenda all they seem? As secrets become unraveled, Charlotte is forced to face that she has handed her babies over to virtual strangers. And when Malcolm and Brenda disappear without a trace, Charlotte is plunged into a frantic search for the babies she carried – before it’s too late…"

This is a brilliant book dealing with a very relevant and emotive subject and does so in a very sympathetic way. The book draws you into the world of Charlotte and Steve and the fact they are desperately trying to have a baby to help another couple, however, Steve has ulterior motives of needing the "expenses money" for the babies and things then get rather complicated and sinister.

Early on in the book you are given hints that all is not what it seems with Malcolm and Brenda, but I was nowhere near prepared for the full impact of what Charlotte and Steve have gotten themselves into.

This is a great psychological thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend, however, I had to knock one star off for the final chapter, which I thought spoiled the ending a bit for me.

If a good book is one you think about constantly, then a great book is one where you come back to the hotel early whilst on holiday just so you can read the last 25%

Needless to say, this is a fantastic book, well written and very current. Highly recommended - a true page turner.

Charlotte has always dreamed of becoming a surrogate. After the heartache of living through her mother having multiple miscarriages Charlotte wants nothing more than to help a couple who have been through the ringer and need some help. When she finds the perfect couple, Brenda and Malcom she knows that these are the people for her. When she becomes pregnant everyone is so thrilled. It’s been a long time of trying. A nagging feeling sits with Charlotte and she doesn’t know why... but really how well does she really know Brenda and Malcom?

What a fun whirlwind of a book! I would definitely recommend this book to those into fast paced fun reads. I enjoyed the writing style, I loved Charlotte and found myself feeling her emotions. I appreciated the quick chapters

This is an enthralling story about Charlotte who wants to have a baby for couples who cannot have one of their own. She researches several sites online and finally chooses Brenda and Malcolm who are rich and have a beautiful home for raising a child.
Charlotte and her husband Steve have a young girl Alice, live in a one bedroom and do not have much money. So apart from helping this couple. Steve also sees it as assistance to their financial problems.
Then Charlotte suffers a loss and begins to wonder if she is doing the right thing, but Brenda and Malcolm are relying on them and they do also have the first payment, so feel obligated.
This story is a good one for a book club as it can raise discussions on not only morality, but can someone give up a baby.
