A riveting story which kept me reading. There are a lot of suspects in this story and a lot of lies and secrets. I thought that some of it is a bit unbelievable but it is still a good read.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I'm not a huge fan of books set in the US which is my fault, not the writers', mainly because I don't understand the hierarchy of the police departments or the different names for the stages of school but this book didn't really relate too much to these, it was far more about the family and how events one night affected the individuals therein.
Ava and Robert have a seemingly perfect home and family life; Robert has made his money with a successful internet app and the business he now runs based on that. Maybe the fact of Robert's success in life being in the public eye caused them to be the focus of the break in that happened that night - or maybe it was just opportunists seeing a big house and expecting a successful raid. Sherriff Nate Carmichael's investigation would find uncover the truth.
Nobody should have been home that night if things had gone according to plan - another line of enquiry for Nate and his team to follow - and had that been the case then this would just have been a straightforward case of burglary rather than an attempted murder charge.
As Ava starts trying to work things out in her head, she realises that the pieces aren't fitting together quite right and maybe the family were deliberate targets. Arrests and accusations are made which shake Ava to her core and make her question the very foundation of her life with Robert. How well does she know her family after all?
The story does take some rather incredible twists and turns from here on, with Ava putting herself and best friend Laurie in some questionable positions given the traumatic experience she has just gone through and this was the point in the book where I kind of lost interest.
I kept going in order to find out whodunnit and why, but the unbelievable events needed to link the plot points together completely spoiled what could have been a pretty good book. A promising first third and an interesting overall plot were let down by the middle section which needed a far more convincing method of detective work to solve the case. If you can excuse that side of the book then it will be a decent read but sadly not one for me.
My thanks to the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this ahead of publication.

Oooh I liked this - a lot!!
It had all the things I love in a book....murder, lies, drugs, cheating, secrets! Ava and her husband Robert are the victims of a home invasion, resulting in their daughter June being critically injured.
With red herrings galore and a whole heap of suspects, I found it pretty hard to put down.
It was a rollercoaster of a read, and I will actively seek out further books from sarah Alderson.

You know that feeling you get in your gut when you're on a rollercoaster?!?!? It's an odd mix of excitement, fear, nausea, and for some of us a: come to Jesus moment! LOL
This book manages to make you feel all of these things and more!
Do you know what it feels like to truly trust someone?
Do you know what it feels like to be betrayed?
"She's not a monster. She's my daughter. I know her... Don't I?"
This book opens up with a scene straight out of a nightmare!
And leaves you wondering if it was in fact a dream, or, a horrific memory???
I thought I knew what real betrayal looked like until I read this book!
There is not one truly likable character in this entire story. But, that's okay. I personally don't read this genre thinking that most/if any of the characters are going to have very many redeeming qualities.
I think it adds more spice to the mix when the characters are this heavily flawed!
Each one of them has something to hide. Each one of them is lying to the other for one reason or another.
Some of the lies are told in order to save the other from knowing something really bad. It was always my opinion that a little white lie told every now and again didn't cause any harm.
However, the lies told in this story, and the consequences they held have me wondering if my opinion was in fact false.
"My family was built on a lie. And lies have broken us apart like bullets ripping through flesh, and splintering bone."
This book will even make you question the morals you were taught about telling the truth!
"The truth is tricky: you open the door to it, thinking it will act as a salve, that it will set you free. And instead, it leaps at you, teeth bared, and rips out your jugular."
WOW!!!
What do you do when everyone around you seems suspicious, shady, out to get you and your family?
What do you do when the closest people to you seem to wear a different face in the dark?
"It's as if Nate's laid little maggots of suspicion in my brain and they're starting to burrow."
I am a proud bibliophile, I read at least 4 to 5 books a month. My absolute favorite genre is- mystery/psychological thriller.
This was my first experience with this author. And it will definitely not be my last!!!
Thank you @NetGalley and the wonderfully talented Sarah Alderson for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
If you are looking for a fast passed, hang on to the edge of your seat, buckle up Bobby, it's gonna get bumpy read,,, then you have found the book for you!!!

Thank you to the publishers for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Pros:
This book had me hooked from the first page, it had a very great story line and enough to keep you intrigued to find out 'who did it.' The outline of the characters was just enough to make you feel sympathetic for what the main character's going through.

The Cons:
It was one of those novels , halfway through reading, where you have a fairly good idea of who was behind the whole thing. That it was just too coincidental in parts.

I would still recommend this book to others and would definitely read it again!

A home invasion is a scary thing, but if your whole family is attacked and your daughter ends up in the ICU it means your whole life changes in an instant.  This is the nightmare Ava Walker finds herself a part of when two men burst into their home and terrorise them all.

As Ava tries to remember what happened she realises there was nothing random about that eventful night and begins looking into every possible reason someone might have to target her and her family. Gradually she begins to understand that everyone involved, including those closest to her, has secrets they're keeping and she is the only one who seems to want to discover the truth.

This is a brilliant book, the synopsis drew me in but gave no real hint as to how much I was going to love it. There were twists and turns throughout; some I saw coming and others I had no clue about until they were there in front of me.  Ava was a great main character and I was rooting for her throughout. There were more mysteries to solve than just whodunnit and the whole story came together in a very satisfying way. Although this was the first book I've read by this author it absolutely won't be the last.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys novels which are family based or have more than one mystery to work out. This is definitely a book to take a chance on.

This is a decent domestic thriller about a home invasion that unravels family secrets. However, although I was hooked at the beginning, the latter part of the storyline seemed to drift and I lost interest. It’s neatly wrapped up in the end though. For me, an OK read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 1/2

Ava and her husband Robert seem to have a perfect successful life. They live in their mansion with her 12 year old daughter June, stepson Gene and their eldest daughter Hannah is studying in New York. One night though armed men break into their house, leaving Ava and Robert injured and June in a coma. Soon it becomes clear to Ava that it was not a random attack and her family was targeted but in finding the who and why secrets come tumbling out that might end up destroying the family she’s trying so hard to save .

In Her Eyes by Sarah Alderson is a fast-paced plot with well-developed characters that does not let up at all.Lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end . Highly recommend !

I would like to thank Hodder and Stoughton, Mullholland Books & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

This book started so well with terrifying scenes of masked robbers invading a family home. I was immediately drawn in to the story..
The story continued at a relatively fast pace which made me want to carry on reading and ended withi twist upon twist. A dark and tense read.

This book was definitely unputdownable. It read very quickly and I don't want to stop reading. Definitely something I hadn't read before and was a total roller coaster ride. I felt the writing was lacking a bit but I still loved it

A home invasion gone wrong or is it? Who are the bad guys? A very fast page, thrilling, and shocking book! I kept turning page after page to find out what happened next!! This is going to be one of my favorite thriller novels of 2019!! Definitely a suspense filled exciting book that should be made into a Hollywood movie!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This is a thriller you need to read!  There are so many twists and turns, you'll be dizzy! Very well-crafted and written, as you can follow along, and the plot isn't outlandish just to try and make it work.

The central character and narrator is Ava, who is married to Robert.  Their children are Hannah (away at college), June who is 12, and Gene, who is Robert’s 26-year old son from his previous marriage.  Ava met Robert in college, soon became pregnant and dropped out at 19 to marry and raise a family. And life has been good to Robert and Ava, or has it?  Every day Ava is thankful for June’s health, as she is a cancer survivor. Hannah is a good daughter, but Gene has been involved with drugs in the past and has no direction in life.  Robert has made a gazillion dollars with software apps, and Ava seems uncomfortable with the ostentatious mansion they live in. She knows they need to do something about Gene, but Robert seems resistant.  And with Robert burying himself in his work, the couple barely see other and have grown apart. Little things, compared to what lies ahead.

A violent home invasion tears the family apart.  Ava and Robert are brutally beaten, and June lies in a coma.  Robert becomes the prime suspect, but Ava can’t reconcile that with Robert’s nature.  As she searches for answers to who and why, Ava’s world is turned upside down as she realizes she doesn’t know the people around her.  And when she thinks she knows, more secrets are revealed, the plot takes a turn  and everything is turned upside down once again. You really have to read to the end, and you will be kept guessing the entire time.  Right down to the last line in the book, so no peeking!

In Her Eyes is a fast-paced thriller that begins with a home invasion. When someone gets seriously injured, the family is left wondering if it was a home invasion gone wrong...or something much more sinister.

Ava and her family live in the type of home she and her husband had always dreamed of. It’s a nice neighborhood and they have a security system. So, how do the home invaders get in? Why has her husband been spending almost all of his time locked in his office? And what secret threatens to consume Ava?

With lots of twists and red herrings, this one may provide some unexpected surprises for most readers. The author fooled me on one of the twists, and it was truly shocking.

Well written and definitely worth reading if you like thrillers that make you suspect every single character.

This novel of suspense had a terrific start – it grabbed me from page one and kept me turning pages. It grabbed hold of my emotions with the 12 year old in a coma. The “why” kept me turning pages as did the intensity of the plot line and it did move in a straight forward time line which I always appreciate.

About half way through the story devolved into lies and secrets so if that’s your genre, you’d really like this one. The characters changed their hats (from white to black to white and back to black) so many times, the reader needed a program to keep up with who was good or bad in the current chapter (which would have been the opposite of the previous chapter). So if you like being confused about the good guys and the bad guys, you’ll like this book. And finally the ending of the book sinks into depravity, even involving incest.

I appreciate the ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, but it’s just not my kind of story.
