Rober Dugoni's A Cold Trail is part of his Tracy Crosswhite series, and it is a book that every reader should have on his or her list. On maternity leave and in her home town, Tracy is enlisted to help the acting sheriff with a case... she just can't help herself. It's a solid mystery filled with favorite characters from previous books: Faz and Vera! I think everyone needs a Faz! Highly suspenseful mystery while keeping the Tracy and Dan's developing relationship on the forefront, A Cold Trail is a fabulous read!! Highly recommended.

I have loved the Tracy Crosswhite series since I discovered it years ago and I get excited when a new release is announced. I was super excited to receive an advanced copy, so thank you netgalley!! The characters in this series are well rounded and dynamic. The character driven plot in this series holds my interest. A word of caution: It is necessary to read the series from the beginning. There are MANY references to past events infused throughout the book. Additionally, the layers upon layers of questionable police findings in the old cold cases that Tracey peels away are somewhat tedious, and pacing is adversely effected. But, the pacing picks up again for the explosive climax! The denouement is satisfying.

One of the nice things about reading a series is character, storyline familiarity. Its comfortable, like spending time with family and friends.

One of the downsides to a series is it's all so comfortable, lol. And I feel compelled to read the next one to check in with my "friends" This is why I try to refrain from starting a series

I have to admit that I haven't read the previous installations in the series - but I certainly plan to after this one (I don't mind going back to the beginning).

Tracy Crosswhite, her husband, Dan O'Leary and their tw0 month-old baby are back in Cedar Grove, where they grew up, while waiting for their house to be remodeled. And of course, while there Tracy becomes involved in three - count them, three - cased: one very cold, one a little less cold and one that's hot, literally; simultaneously, Dan is involved in a case involving the revitalization of Cedar Grove. Between them, what they find in Cedar Grove is greed, envy, jealousy, treachery and murder in a town that has been slowly disappearing.

Throughout the book, we get insights into Tracy's life, growing up in Cedar Grove and her continued regrets as to what happened to her sister and how it affected her family.

Piece by piece, the cases begin to fit together.

This version may have been an Uncorrected Proof, but I did not see any areas that could stand improvement.

Highly recommended for those fans of the previous books, and could even be read as a standalone.

I know some people don't care for a series, however when I 'meet' characters and like them, I have to continue.
This is how I feel about the Tracy Crosswhite series. I assume you could read this as a stand alone but seriously think you'll want to read the others. 1. Love the characters, they feel real 2. Enjoy the mystery (love a great mystery) 3. Amazed by the direction the author takes...always surprises. Robert Dugoni writes a great mystery! Tracy Crosswhite & husband Dan O’Leary have returned to Cedar Grove for a short stay while their Seattle home is renovated, with their two-month-old daughter, Daniella, in tow. While difficult for Tracy after the death of her sister, she and Dan do want their child to know her parent’s roots. With nanny, Therese, present as well, Tracy is still trying to decide if she wants to return to detective work or become a stay-at-home Mom. While police work is in her blood, she worries of the inherent danger of the job. Dan, meanwhile, is assisting a client with some legal issues pertaining to his business in Cedar Grove.

While out on a date night, Tracy runs into retired Cedar Grove police chief, Roy Calloway, who appears to be back in uniform. Puzzled, Tracy stops into to see him the next day and learns that active chief Finlay Armstrong has been sidelined after the house fire that had killed his wife, Kimberly. The fire has been ruled arson. An autopsy has revealed that Finlay’s wife died of blunt force trauma to the head. She also learns that Kimberly had been writing a book about the murder of teen-ager Heather Johansen, which had been attributed to the murderer that had killed Tracy’s sister Sarah all those years ago. This is complicated by the fact that Finlay Armstrong had dated Heather all those years ago. After a discussion about the case, Roy asks Tracy for her assistance with the murder investigation.

Torn between mothering and assisting, Tracy finds herself interested in the case, and agrees to assist, much to her husband’s dismay. It’s in reviewing her sisters old high school diaries that Tracy inadvertently finds her first clue. As Tracy begins her present day investigation, another murder is linked to the case – but how do these pieces fit together – and why? Meanwhile Dan’s case uncovers some pretty interesting information that may somehow tie his case into Tracy’s investigation. But the deeper Tracy digs, the more unsettled a killer gets – and that killer will do anything to keep his 25-year secret safe…

I have loved this series since I first discovered it, and this latest addition is no exception! Reminiscent of JT Ellison’s Taylor Jackson series, this series delivers with great characters, a believable mystery, plenty of suspense and a fabulous heroine in Tracy! I couldn’t put it down! Robert Dugoni has been added to my ‘must read’ author’s list!!

I have been a fan of the Tracy Crosswhite series since the first book and have enjoyed all the books in this series. This book did not disappoint. I love that the story took you back to Tracy's hometown. I also love that it gave a deeper look into Dan's life which he has been a character in the series for awhile but haven't focused on him. This book was great and continues to make me excited about to books to come in this series.

“A Cold Trail” is Robert Dugoni’s seventh novel in his Tracy Crosswhite series, and this talented author does not disappoint the reader with his creative talent of weaving a tale that engages and keeps you guessing until the end. Detective Crosswhite and her lawyer husband Dan, have moved back to their hometown of Cedar Grove while their home is being remolded to make room for their new daughter, Daniella. While Tracy is contemplating returning to work, Dan is involved in a case that appears to have many layers, and after a visit with the local police chief Tracy decides to help him out with an arson investigation. The more Tracy digs into the crime the more dangerous life becomes for the new mom and she must decide what is best for her and her family. Mr. Dugoni has a quality in his writing that grabs your imagination and holds on for the whole ride. I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

A Cold Trail is the most complicated of the first six Tracy Crosswhite stories. I listened to all the earlier stories on Audible and wonder if that colors my perceptions of the stories. But looking at the stories, individually, it is clear that the Tracy Crosswhite story has become that much more complicated, It ALWAYS involves her sister, Sarah Crosswhite and her connection to this story is not even one she knew at the time.

So this book was not the cozy sitting on the boat, tanning, lightweight story, I expected. It was all of the past stories. It isn't that it couldn't stand alone, just that it is much richer for not being a stand alone story.

This series gets better and better.

A new book by Robert Dugoni always makes me happy. Another Tracy Crosswhite story makes me even happier. Spoilers ahead.....


Now that Tracy is on maternity leave and is wondering if she can balance being a cop and mother, she has a lot of time on her hands to grasp what she wants to do. So while her and Dan's house is being renovated, they go back to their hometown of Cedar Grove. Dan is working on a trial involving some businesses there and Tracy somehow gets involved in a policeman's wife's murder and the cold case that she was working on. Her involvement doesn't bring happiness to the town though, because of the last time she was in town she stirred up trouble looking for her own sister's murderer.

This was another good story by Dugoni. Its always nice to get back into the lives of characters that you've been reading about for awhile now. See how their lives change and the many different cases that they end up involved in. I'm never bored with Tracy and the side characters. I always recommend Dugoni's books, not once have I been disappointed in them. Now we see what happens next.....

I gave this book a 5 star rating! To be honest, I have never read any book in this series until now. I enjoyed it a lot and will be reading the other 6 and possibly reading this book again!

The book cover really captured me from the moment that I saw it. It captures the feel of the book perfectly.

I have read and loved all of the books in the Tracy Crosswhite series. This time around, Tracy and Dan have returned to Cedar Grove while their house is being remodeled. While Dan works to help a merchant keep his store, Tracy gets a chance to work a cold case that may be connected to a recent murder.

I loved this book as much as the first book in the series, My Sister’s Grave. I love the small town feeling that the author invokes while reading this book. It reminds of the small town I grew up in. He captures the demise of the town very well. You can almost see the empty downtown area and feel the desolation, hear the chatter of citizens as they gossip about their neighbors, and knowing just about everyone you meet.

The author has a way of moving you forward in the story, but then takes you back and lets you see how an incident happened. This is one of my favorite things that Robert Dugoni does in his books. It always makes the story more interesting to see how something took place from the perspective of the murderer and the victim.

I also enjoy how many of the characters continue from one book to the next. They all start to feel like family and each book is a family reunion. The author continues to let Tracy grow in her relationship with Dan and allows them as a couple to have good and bad moments which makes them seem more realistic.

Nothing but good vibes for this story. A well written whodunit with a surprised villain. I only wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I can’t wait for the next one.

I am always eagerly waiting for the next installment in the Tracy Crosswhite series! In this book we see Tracy adjusting to being a new mother, while balancing her career that she loves. Full of suspense and thrills, once again Robert Dugoni did not disappoint!

Another 5 star book in Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series! This has quickly become one of my favorite series. There is never a dull moment and I never want to put them down. I always look forward to the next book in the series. If you aren't reading this series, then you definitely should be! Highly recommend!

This is the seventh book in the Detective Tracy Crosswhite series, I have read them all and was very excited to read this latest installment.

Tracy and her attorney husband Dan have temporarily moved back to Cedar Grove while their home in the big city is being renovated. Tracy and Dan both grew up in Cedar Grove, a small town that is still slower paced than the city they now live in and everyone knows each other. They want their new daughter two month old Daniella to know where her parents grew up and to learn about her family history. Tracy is still on maternity leave, she hasn't decided if she will return to work. Part of her doesn't think she can give up her career but she also knows how dangerous her job can be and she has a child to care for now.

Retired Sheriff Calloway (also best friend to Tracy's father) is back as acting sheriff because the new Sheriff Finlay is on leave. His wife Kimberly died when their house burned to the ground, but the medical examiner finds that she actually died of blunt force trauma to the head, prior to the fire. Sheriff Calloway is also dealing with a old 1993 case, the unsolved murder of eighteen year old Heather Johansen. There is one more unsolved murder, a attorney named Matthews. Matthews was was looking into Heather's murder, he was hired by Heather's parents. The Johansen's however, fired Matthews when he told them some of the rumors he uncovered about Heather. .

Sheriff Roy asks Tracy to help him investigate the three cases. Tracy jumps at the chance which Dan is not too happy about. Meanwhile Dan is representing a merchant from town, Larry Kaufman. Larry Kaufman is suing the town of Cedar Grove. Soon Tracy's cases and Dan's case start to reveal some strange coincidences. They are seeing their hometown in a new light and not happy with the level of corruption they are finding.

Mr. Dugoni has once again delivered a wonderful page turner. He brings the characters to life, there are always enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. I was very surprised at some of the turn of events, especially when the bad guy was revealed. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book by Mr. Dugoni.

I love this series and A cold trail didn't disappoint. The story was well crafted and pulls in the past without alienating the reader who has not read any of the previous books in the series.

The now happily married and new mother Tracy is on baby leave from her job and the couple is temporarily living in husband Dan's parents' cottage while their home is being remodeled in the Seattle area. Cedar Grove, Washington is thus the location where both grew up and where the 1993 murder of another young girl calls for new investigation after others are killed after looking into it in concert with other suspicious happenings in the town.
"How could so much evil exist in one small town"...
A major real estate scam is linked to the dangerous events, and Tracy's husband Dan is the lawyer bringing the activity to light in the courtroom as attempts on Tracy's life eventuate.

3.5 stars from 5 for me as I have liked a couple of these books more than this highly emotional one.
