i really enjoyed reading this book, the characters were great and I enjoyed trying to figure out the killer.

I dove into this book without reading the description first, because I wanted to really experience the excitement of the story. I will say that I absolutely love this book! The storyline and plot I found to be extremely attention grabbing .and enticing. I found myself not wanting to put this book down at all, and when I was finished reading the entire book, I found myself sad that it had ended.
I gave this book three stars because, as much as I love this book, I did find it to drag a little throughout a few chapters, it seemed a little repetitive throughout those few chapters, but it did not last to long. Therefore, I felt the story kind of caught back up with itself after getting through the few chapters in the middle of the book.
I also felt like the rising action, was really good, but the climax did not give me the satisfaction the I felt the story was leading up to.
I do think the author could have added a clue to the fact that there are a few things throughout the book that may be a trigger for some people. Things such as, mental health issues, death, talk of suicide, overdose, and sexual harassment and assault. These are things that I believe the reader should be aware of, or given a warning that they are included in the book, before the reader dives in. Although I did not read the synopsis before reading the book, I did research afterwards and could not find any warning or mention of any of the triggers above.
Although, I did find a few things to be a little off and/or repetitive, I still truly enjoyed reading All the Pretty Things! If you are looking for a good book to read that you have time to read, because you won't want to put it down, then All the Pretty Things is the perfect book for you! It is worth the read!

I love a creepy story with a mystery embedded and this book promises to deliver, but comes up a tad short. I will say though that the YA audience for whom this book is intended will likely enjoy this story and it's a good entry for the genre.

The Book overall was a good book.. It kept my interest and I wanted to know where the story went.. I did feel like the ending just dropped.. I mean I was wanting to know what happened to certain characters so I felt it was just left lacking there.. However I did like the book and would read more by this author..

I don’t know what I was expecting from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was so great!

Not for me. Parts just felt icky and nothing was every resolved. Some of the twists at the end were nice but overall predictable. Plus nothing truly interesting until about 70-80% through.

I don’t know what to say other than, I love Emily’s writing! I was so beyond happy to get to read her book early.

This was an average YA mystery for me. It had a lot more potential, as I loved the amusement park setting, but the characters were unlikeable, and the solving of the mystery was nothing exciting. I expected more from this.

When I see a YA book marketed as a thriller, with a fantastic cover and an intriguing premise, I go all in!

Books that take forever to get going, are a major pet peeve of mine. So I was really excited when 5 pages in, one of Ivy's co-worker's has turned up dead, and her best friend is missing. The story starts off quickly, but then kind of falters from that point on.

Our main character Ivy became a total Nancy Drew character, right down to a successful Dad who is so busy she's basically raising herself. Her father was the only creepy thing about the story, but that too became an issue for me. I was so annoyed that very early on we can see what a creep he is, meanwhile Ivy who is supposed to be both smart and capable, has no clue.

I thought the story set in an amusement park was going to be creepy and amazing! I anticipated a really atmospheric ride, but it never really delivered. I feel like the author really could have done so much here with the setting, and especially the nightlife at an amusement park. This read much more of a kiddie park or the kind you find set up in a Wal-Mart parking lot, than an amusement park. And i was really let down by the potential.

In the end, I kept waiting for the big mystery, and the thrills, which never came. I really wouldn't classify this as a mystery. The small twists and turns there are, you can see coming from the first 30 to 50 pages of the book.

For me this book was so/so, and I was disappointed that it wasn't the thriller it was marketed as. I give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

The synopsis describes this book as an 'all new thriller about a boy who turns up dead under suspicious circumstances.' I would not classify this as a Thriller and the death of the boy, which wasn't really the main plot, didn't seem that suspicious, certainly not so much so, that a girl not even involved in the incident would make it her life mission to investigate.

Okay, I think I am getting too far ahead of myself. Let's go back.

High schooler, Ivy, spends her summers working at her Dad's amusement park, Fabuland, in rural New Hampshire. She mainly makes cotton candy, but sometimes helps out with other positions as well. After taking some time off to visit relatives, she returns to find the park in chaos. While she was away, one of the park's employees, Ethan, died. Her best friend, Morgan, discovered his body.

Morgan, apparently distraught from her discovery, gets drunk one night and climbs to the top of the ferris wheel. Authorities, fearing she may try to take her own life, contact Ivy and have her go to the top of the wheel to talk Morgan down.

Plausible?

Morgan promptly gets sent to a psychiatric ward. Ivy then begins an investigation into the death of Ethan. There were some moments of interest for me within this story. I wouldn't necessarily say this was a bad book, for me it just seemed like a poorly formulated story.

This is really, if you look at the actual biggest issue in the book, which I would not say is the death of poor Ethan, a hard-hitting YA Contemporary. Why it would try to be spun as a murder mystery is beyond me. The more I think about it, the more I am turned off by the whole thing. There were some fairly serious issues touched upon in this book, but in my opinion they were not handled well.

Yeah, that's really all I have to say. Sorry I can't provide more clarification. I certainly do not want to spoil anything for people who want to pick this one up. Let me be clear, just because this book wasn't for me, I know there are readers out there that will enjoy this a lot. Unfortunately, that just wasn't me.

When I first saw this book on NetGalley I thought the synopsis was pretty interesting. The synopsis says for fans of Sadie, and I loved Sadie. I also really love thrillers and murder mysteries. Sadly, I was disappointed with this book.

We follow our MC Ivy who is the daughter of the owner of Fabuland, an amusement park. During the summer Ivy works at Fabuland along with her best friend Morgan. While Ivy is away with her mother, a coworker of hers, Ethan, is found dead by Morgan. When Ivy gets back to the amusement park she finds that everything is different. Morgan isn’t talking to her as much and she doesn’t understand why. Ivy goes on her own investigation to find out what happened to Ethan and why her best friend seems distant. What she finds out is worse than she thought.

So the story was pretty good. The idea was interesting. What turned me off about this book was the writing. Mostly the conversations with the characters. They seemed forced and not natural at all. Conversations between the dad and Ivy were one of the worst. Like I said earlier, it was a good idea, but I just didn’t enjoy the writing. It wasn’t for me.

I'm a bit mixed on this one. On the one hand, I absolutely love the setting, the overall idea of the story, and some of the creepier moments in the writing. On the other, the 'mystery' aspect of this one missed the mark quite a bit, and gave it way more of a children's book feel than the YA / new adult vibes I think it was intending. I didn't mind the characters or the writing, and will absolutely check out more from this author in the future! I feel like this could've been refined just a little bit more though.

I have no idea how to rate this one. Well I enjoyed reading it and the writing was really engrossing but I didn.t feel for any of the characters. A bit predictable and nothing out of the extraordinary but still I liked it !!!

I love the cover Ivy's dad tells her Morgan is missing.The police are looking and it's been less than twenty four hours since she disappeared. It's been days since Ivy heard from morgan. Ivy's visiting her grandparents in North Carolina. There was news about an accidental death before the disappearance.

I had a hard time reading All The Pretty Things. All though the story was enjoyable, it wasn't really gripping, so it was easy to set aside and forget for me.
The story follow Ivy as she is returning from a vacation with her mother to find that a co-worker from her father's amusement park Fabuland had died and her best friend Megan is quickly unraveling after find him.
There is a large cast of characters employed at Fabuland, all potentially hiding a secret. As Ivy returns to work she begins to investigate all who were involved in the death of Ethan, but only seems to bring more harm to those around her.
The flow of the story in a little slow, but there is always a new clue to reignite the mystery. The characters are not any deeper than they need to support the story, so no one is very memeorable past Ivy. The hardest was the reveal in which it seems that everything tumbles into place all at once, but none of it is really addressed. To me the story fell flat and the ending was very disappointing.
An interesting premise, but forgettable. I give it 3 stars.

The premise was what really drew me to this novel, and unfortunately while it had some creepy moments, it wasn't really a success overall. The dialogue seemed off and forced and at times that made it hard to stay engrossed.

This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 4 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!

All the Pretty Things was YA small town mystery that revolved around Fabuland amusement park, Ethan’s death and reason behind Morgan’s silence. It was about workplace harassment, health risks at amusement park, motivated perception and ignorance.

Writing was easy, intriguing and good but not best. Setting of Fabuland- amusement park in small town, Danville was fabulous. Story was first person narrative from Ivy’s POV.

All the Pretty Things started with Ivy receiving news about her best friend- Morgan. She discovered dead body of coworker and classmate on her way to Fabuland. Soon they found Morgan but she wasn’t herself and was admitted in psych ward. She wouldn’t talk to anybody, not even to Ivy. She just vaguely pointed her questions about Ethan’s death. To find out what happened to Ethan and how it affected to Morgan, Ivy carried out her own investigation. And what she found out in process was disturbing that might change her life. The story was all about what was the mystery behind Ethan’s death and Morgan’s distressed state, Why she would shut out her best friend, and what Ivy discovered at the end.

Mystery behind Morgan’s state was clear. I could figure out what might have happened to her. Within few chapters I also could see who might have caused her distress. As for Ethan’s death that was tricky in first half but easy to figure in second half. First half was all about introduction of Fabuland, Ivy’s family, her friendship with Morgan, Fabuland employees who were mostly young high school students and Ivy’s class mates, her father’s nature and dreams, and mainly Ivy’s investigation. This part was a bit slow.

Characters were interesting but not in depth. We see the world and characters through Ivy’s eyes and we know them only with their connection to mysteries so it was really hard to know or connect with characters, even with Ivy.

Ivy was okay, she was mostly playing Nancy Drew and piping her thoughts on what she found out. I couldn’t exactly say if she liked working at Fabuland or not or if she was working their out of love for her father- It seemed like combination of all of these. I didn’t like her for judging her brother as he didn’t came back to work at Fabuland and for taking side with her father without knowing whole story. At one point she was developed for her age- responsible daughter and helping her father and other employees, while at some point she was naïve and saw the world and her family’s issue through what she perceived as child during her parents’ divorce. And I can’t imagine how she couldn’t see her father’s vulgar language and behavior. One thing I liked was her reaction to truths she discovered. It was realistic and her decision at the end was perfect.

Best part of the book was setting. Amusement park was described wonderfully. Roller coasters, carousel, spin rides, cotton candy, ice cream parlor, food zone, water rides, princess parade, and sparkly doughnuts- All The pretty Things were there at this park. And I loved new ideas in promoting the park, fun activities and giveaways. And beneath those pretty things there was darkness and shadiness that made the story atmospheric. I liked the way author represented workplace harassment and possible health risk and accidents at amusement park. Through Ethan’s story it was also shown importance of health assessment and parent permission for under age kid before giving them job.

In second half, Ivy not just solved mystery of Ethan and Morgan but also reason behind why her brother Jason wouldn’t join them this summer and never work for their father. Winnie’s story and revelation at climax was perfect. Loved Ivy’s development and the way she accepted her ignorance and took right step at the end. End was perfect. I loved that big revelation just before end, slight different from what I guessed but I enjoyed it.

Why 3 Stars-

It wasn’t exactly thriller. I would say it was more like cozy mystery with a bit darkness. Plus it was easy to predict who was culprit because there was only one person who behaved wrong and inappropriately.

Dialogues were not good. All conversations started with huh, uh-huh, umm…! I lost count how many times these words were used. It really made conversations dull.

As I said above in characters part, there was no feel or connection to characters. Book was first person narrative but I know and see everyone else except main character. Maybe because it was more plot driven but characters were important part so I was expecting to know them better, at least Ivy and Morgan.

Overall, All the Pretty Things was simple and quick read with had great setting and interesting plot but predictable and not exactly a thriller. If you want an easy mystery, love amusement park and mystery in it with a little creepy feel, go ahead.
