Once again, Lisa Renee Jones slays it. Most books by this author are suspense, this, however, was not and it was a nice change. One she did smoothly. She gave us a city girl recently single and a hot as hell cowboy.

Jessica a divorce attorney leaves Dallas behind after finding her man in bed with another woman. She rents a place out the country to start writing a book on all things divorce when on the way to her new place she hit a snag and a cowboy in a pickup truck that passes by is so nice to lend a hand. The two instantly have chemistry and to make things even better. He is her new landlord.

The cowboy's name is Jason, and he's had a rough time when it comes to love, after being burnt painfully by his past, it makes him wary and he struggles to trust, especially city girls.

Jason's grandma is a matchmaker, and fast becomes close friends with Jessica, and of course, matches them up and because of the chemistry between the two that is already there, it doesn't take much. But there are secrets he holds and hangups which he struggles to overcome. While these two grow with each other and discover each other as the story progresses, they also struggle. Jason struggles to let go of his past which would ultimately stop Jessica from being his future. Will he be able to overcome these things? Or will the wedge between the two remain and stop them both from getting a happily ever after that they both deserve.


I loved this book. It was fun, hot, intense, full of drama and angst. with that oh-so-good push and pull between the characters. I loved the grandma, and I loved the friendship Jessica had with her too.
The authors' style of writing is amazing, it's always sucked me in and this book was no different. I devoured this book with ease!

Loved every minute of it!
This was a 5 star read for me.

The Truth About Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones was a good read. Once you pick up this novel you will enjoy the story.

In a departure from her normal romantic suspense Lisa Renee Jones has written a country cowboy vs city girl rom-com. Take one grumpy, cantankerous, suspicious, quick to judge cowboy who is a former MLB pitching star and one feisty, sassy, adorably clumsy, high profile divorce attorney and budding romance author. Add in a cookie baking, 70 something, mischievous matchmaking grandmother and a hairless cat named Kelly. You've got the perfect recipe recipe for a delightful romantic romp. I found myself chuckling several times in the first few pages and throughout the book.

Jason and Jessica are about as compatible as oil and water. Their banter is witty, acerbic and rapid fire. Yep, a match made in heaven! She only wants to help and his pride keeps him from accepting anyone's help. Both of them have pasts that have left them mistrustful. No matter how hot they are in the bedroom, outside their personal issues may be an insurmountable obstacle.

This book and I definitely had a love/ hate relationship. I loved watching them "hate" each other. Their argueing was flirting, their bickering was foreplay and their connection was HOT!!
Cowboys make my heart race! A$$hole cowboys make me swoon!!! And yep Jason made me SWOON!! I loved him.
Now Jessica God love her the girl was a bit of a mess with no idea where her life was headed and what she was doing.
Then this A$$hole cowboy sweeps her off her feet right into the mud. Immediate sparks!!
He had a boatload of his own issues.
Watching them fight and love and fight again maybe this a great story! But the sweet meddlesome Grandmother made me smile and grounded them! She was my favorite part.

This was adorable! I liked both characters and rooted for them to get their HEA, no matter what speed bumps kept getting in their way. Jessica was so straightforward, honest basically to a fault and so capable and successful just as she was. She was very loving and trusting regardless of her bad past, and I liked how enthusiastic she was towards everything. Jason on the other hand had baggage as well, but his past tempered how he saw and interacted with everyone making him basically the tool for destruction in their relationship at every turn. He was a nice guy, don't get me wrong, he just could not get over his own issues- but he totally made up for it at the end.

I really enjoyed this very steamy contemporary romance, full of heart, angst, baking and baseball. I blew through it in one day and have already recommended it to a lot of friends. This is the perfect read for anyone who likes meddling grandmothers, the most delicious sounding baked goods, mischievous hairless cats, bad luck and great characters.

What a fantastic romance book. It has everything you would expect from the perfect romance. Angst, sexual tension, flirting, humor, and passion. Jessica is a divorce attorney who catches her fiancé cheating with his secretary. She doesn’t handle it well and decides to escape to a small cottage to regroup and write a how to divorce guide. Jason is a Major League Baseball pitcher who decides to hang up his glove and ball to run his family’s apple orchard. He happens to own said cottage Jessica rents. He thinks she is there to write a tell all book about him and wants her gone. She has no where else to go and she rented from his grandmother who she became friends with while booking the cottage. Obviously grandma wins out and Jessica gets to stay. Jason and Jessica fight at every turn. He doesn’t trust her and he makes her so mad. But of course they both find each other attractive. Their push and pull and banter is fabulous. Their desire hot. I love how they help each other heal. I love how they become friends. Their story is heartfelt and swoony. And grandma Martha is such a great addition to the story. Just love her and what comes out of her mouth. And Roarke is a great best friend to Jason. Can’t wait to find out his story. Another great book from Lisa Renee Jones!! You can never go wrong with any of her stories.

Are you interested in something different from Lisa Renee Jones, then this is the book to read! I LOVED reading The Truth About Cowboys! It’s a feel good sexy book. Jason is a baseballer that had to leave baseball to care for his family farm after his parents died in a tragic accident. And, Jessica an attorney that is having to take a leave after her fiancé was caught cheating by her and her inappropriate comments to a client.

There were a few times I wanted to slap Jason upside the head. He really has a habit of ruining a good thing!

There are some LOL moments and The Truth About Cowboys is a fun read. Jason's grandmother Martha, is a cool grandma!

Omg. This book! I love. Love. Love. Lisa’s books. She has a way with her stories and they are all so different but grab you. This is no exception...

Hot, former baseball player meets his match in a divorce attorney who is sick of the big city and everything/everyone that comes with it. She is off to the country to write her book.... there are fireworks (lots of different ones) but I loved it. The love/hate was strong and sometimes that is the best kind of love!

This is a little different for Lisa, but loved it!

This was just not the book for me. The writing was off IMO. It didn't flow the way I would like, and it was really wordy. I understand an enemies to lover book, but it seemed like they were way more enemies than lovers. Jessica seems really ditzy to be a lawyer. The way she acted at the beginning of the book seemed more young adult than grown woman. Jason was a jerk plain and simple. I understand having problems with a "city girl" because of his past, but he never really gets over them. He's constantly assuming the worst of Jessica, and she just puts up with it. I would have loved a turn around in him, and to be able to root for them to be together, but I couldn't. He's a jerk till the end, and with a simple apology, Jessica goes right back. Although this was a first for me from this author, I would be willing to give her another read.

If you love a good sexy cowboy meets a city girl, then The Truth About Cowboys is the book for you. From the first chapter, you can tell that Jason and Jessica are going to give each other a run for romance, which neither is looking for, of course. Well, that is until a good southern grandma works her matchmaking magic. These two have a great push-pull relationship and is just fill will chemistry.

I have always heard great things about Lisa Renee Jones’s books and now I can say that they are all true. Wonderful characters, plot, and page-turning book; I know this will not be my last from this author.

The Truth about Cowboys can sometimes be good but then you have Lisa Renee Jones version of it making you wonder if all we know about cowboys is false. We have Jessica coming out of a long romance she thought was going somewhere and Jason an ex-baseball players trying to be the cowboy his family wanted him to be. Two people who really are missing something from each other’s life yet afraid to really get into. Jessica is all about being independent even though she has always been in a relationship but at the same time doesn’t know how to well be single. An ex-divorce attorney trying to write a book about cowboys and romance is not something you expect from her yet she is determined. Jason seems to at every part in the book not know what to do with her. One minute he wants her out, then he is kissing her crazy and Jessica well not sure how to handle everything. The one thing about the book that made it funny was Martha, matchmaking grandmother extraordinaire. I loved how even these two are always bickering she is really the glue that brings them together. All in all it was funny to read and cannot wait to see what Lisa Renee Jones has in store for book 2.

Jessica and Jason were great together, and Martha was hilarious! The story line was very well written, flows very well, and is enjoyable to read.

It is an amazing read the chemistry Jason and Jennifer have together through out this book is amazing. Now I admit life kinda got in the way while I was reading this one so it took me a bit to read but Damon when I could couldn't put the book down at all. I hope there's more to come from the flying j ranch crew and well always more from Jason and Jennifer as well in the future

Book Review- The Truth about Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones

I loved how this book starts, Jessica driving in the rain eating chocolate after finding her fiancé. Then she meets Jason. Seriously humiliating for her. Of course, I feel for her from the beginning. She is definitely a kindred spirit.
Jason was an ass. I realize he had good reason not to trust her at first. He had definitely been burned by his ex. However, the author did a great job of conveying the sexual tension they had. I loved their interactions, their arguments and their explosive passion with each other.
Jason gave up his dream to run the ranch and felt stuck there, yet he wouldn’t admit it. His views were realistic and believable in the sense that anyone could feel the same in that position. Jessica is exactly what he needs. She is a great character. I find it funny that she was a divorce lawyer but wouldn’t stand up for herself when it came to her own life.
This story was a fabulous one where two people who had the same experiences in love, but different lives come together. He is a rancher living in the country and she is a lawyer from the city. They got along better than I thought. Jessica was the character that really linked the story together in that sense. She was awesome. Jason took his own sweet time figuring things out and almost messes everything up. I swear men are sometimes clueless. It was a great read and I can’t wait to read more! I give it a 4 out of 5.

When I pick up a Lisa Renee Jones book I am expecting intrigue, suspense, high-drama. You will get none of that in The Truth About Cowboys. What you will get is a broody cowboy and a city girl looking to lick her wounds and write her book. You’ll also get a spirited grandmother that you will absolutely fall in love with. So, a true romance, Texas style, is what you’ll get. No suspense … a little drama … a whole lot of hot male and a feisty woman.

Jason. Like I said, broody, sexy, hot, demanding. Oh, by the way, an ex-baseball player. A$$hole.

Jessica. A high-powered Divorce attorney turned author. Clumsy, funny, lovable and a baseball fan.

Martha. Grandma. Cookie baking wizard. A wise woman who sees more than anyone thinks.

I am not even sure where to begin. I loved this story so much that it’s hard to describe exactly why. The characters were well written and well defined. The story had so much in it … betrayal, loss and love. The interaction between Jason and Jessica went from antagonistic to hot and then back to antagonistic in a few short sentences. I adored how Jessica put Jason in his place. I loved how Martha stood up to all of them. I loved how take charge Jason was when he finally let his emotions get the better of him. And, there is a scene in the story that just had me laughing out loud and made me fall more in love with Grandma and her wonderful ideas (no spoilers here). What was the best though, was the way Jessica made Jason look at his life, look at the way he was doing things and making him realize that he could have everything … the ranch, baseball and the girl. I didn’t like Jason when he was comparing Jessica to every other city girl. I didn’t like Craig. That’s about all I didn’t like.

Lisa Renee Jones stunned me with this story and I cannot wait to read Tangled Up in Christmas, the next book in the Texas Heat series. I was amazed that this author is able to bring us such intense romantic suspense and then switch to a story that was romantic and feel-good, steamy with a little touch of dominance. I would have been surprised if Jason didn’t like his sex his way or no way. And a Texas baseball playing cowboy … wow, just wow. She hit on all my triggers. A good pair of wranglers or a pair of baseball pants … either view is okay with me.

So, do yourself a favor and pick up this book. From romantic suspense to contemporary romance, Lisa Renee Jones is a must read. You can’t go wrong with either genre that she writes.

City girl divorce attorney goes to the country to lick her wounds from a cheating fiancé. Ends up on the ranch of a recently retired New York Yankees pitcher who inherited it after his parents died. His grandmother is a meddling matchmaker .

The story has a slow pace and a lot of dialogue where not a lot happens. It's wordy, but also mostly told through banter between the two. It's a fine line for witty/snappy to needing a normal conversation between them.

The banter is one thing, but he’s stereotyped her as a city girl who doesn't belong there. They're at odds with each other so much it makes this an enemies to lovers (and back to enemies repeatedly) story. Here's the main thing - the words "city girl" are used 52 times. The word "city" alone is used 111 times. It was overwhelming and extremely frustrating.

Overall, I enjoyed the story in bits and pieces. The pacing and overuse of the same word(s) kept me from liking this. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Jessica and Jason’s story. These two both lost something in there past and now they have a new future unlike anything they thought they would have. He helps but makes sure she knows she should be able to do it herself. She falls for him but has been burned so she is not really trusting right now. The more they banter back and forth the more chemistry you can feel. Can they figure out there lifes before intermixing them with each other?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

4.5* Jessica, hot on her own betrayal from her fiancé and an epic cluster puck at her firm where she is a divorce attorney, is headed to escape from her life and write the book she has been wanting to do. It's when she literally gets stuck in the rain and mud that she meets, brooding, hot headed, former pro baseball player Jason Jenks on her way to her getaway cabin that the laughs begin. LRJ has switched things up in this book. It's light and funny and the connection that starts as enemies quickly becomes hot! But both Jessica & Jason have a lot of unresolved issues and that causes miscommunication, holding back on truths, and lack of trust. The push and pull continues throughout the book until they finally figure things out. Martha, Jason's grandmother is wonderful. I would love to spend the day with her and bake cookies. Jason seems tormented by his past and it effects him negatively and as a result he takes it out on Jessica. Once things finally get resolved you feel like you do have The Truth About Cowboys and a HEA.
