My little reader saw herself in Caillou and him trying to do things by himself. Diferent combinations have been shown off kids trying to do things by themselves and then being successful or not. when dad was encouraging and smiling, then Caillou did better, when dad said that Caillou might be tired, still Caillou tried and got himself ready for bed. Great accomplishment for a tired night.

Another charming episode from Caillou. In I Can Do It Myself!" the reader finds the titular character wanting to try things for himself, such as putting his shoes on and setting the table. I love how patient his dad is, even as Caillou occasionally gets frustrated.

Small children, perhaps even those as old as five, will love this book, as they are gaining so much independence at this stage. They'll find that frustration is common when new things prove difficult, but with a little patience, and a loving, calming presence from Mom and Dad, they can be very successful.

Highly recommended!

Thank you #netgallery for the eARC.

Caillou is such a familiar face within the young children world whether in books or on television. This book is about Caillou figuring out how to be independent and is determined to succeed. Sweet book.

This brightly illustrated book delivers an empowering message to young children: yes, they can do and try to do many things for themselves. Caillou wants to dress and undress himself, carry dishes to the table and help clear and more. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes less so. Caillou's dad is patient and encouraging. Caillou then is able to take chances. This is briefly contrasted with a child whose mom does for her what she wants to do. It is clear which is the preferred path for parents and children.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review. It is one that deserves a place on young children's home or nursery school shelves.

This is a wonderful story to help young children find the confidence to do things on their own. It also is a fantastic way to remind parents or caregivers to let children try things on their own so they can gain confidence in themselves. We live in a very fast paced world and sometimes can forget that children need to grow the capabilities to keep up and sometimes that means slowing our pace down to their speed of learning. I read this to the boys that I nanny and they loved watching Caillou learn to do things on his own. The rest of the day they wanted to do everything themselves. I recommend this book for children and the adults in their lives. I am grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 stars.

This is a great book. It shows kids that they can do these things themselves with practice and that it will make them feel good by achieving these goals which builds their confidence. It's great to have parents who let the child take their time in doing these victories because of the positive feelings it creates. It shows kids that you will be rewarded by positive encouragement if you try.

In this book, Caillou is seen as a great role model.

This was a really cute, short and relatable book for my son and I. He is at the age where he wants to be more independent as well so he related to Caillou really well while I related more to his dad in the story. I love children’s books that give my son the feeling that the things he’s going through as he gets older are normal. This book is a reminder for me and him that he’s becoming a big boy.

Caillou is such a cute little guy. This book focuses on a couple of things. Caillou learning to do things by himself and for dad to step back and let him.

Caillou is growing up and like all children “they want to do it themselves”. Sometimes as parents we are in far too much of a hurry to allow our children to try to dress themselves, or tie their own shoe laces, allow them to help us lay the table or get shopping with us.

I know life is a rush, but time with our children allowing plenty of time for tasks being fun with plenty of praise may not be realistic.

It takes longer! And it’s quicker and easier if we do it ourselves right?

This may be a short little book but a huge lesson we all could learn.

As a Montessori parent, I am thrilled to have found such a lovely book! I recommend this book to other parents! It's an easy way to understand how to support your child when the "I want to do it myself" phase emerges! It's also inspiring for children to see that building new skills takes patience, determination, and repetition. And I also like the emphasis on the role of the father.
I will certainly watch out for the other books in the Caillou series!
