Great start to a must read hockey romance series…

Jordan is sweet, funny and her ‘take it as it comes’ attitude was a wonderful contrast to Levi’s very stoic, hide any and all emotions at all costs persona. When Jordan had an opportunity to further her career she was not above using her not so cordial ties to Levi to score the interview of the day. What I loved about that though was how up front she was about it. No games, no intrigue. She was so honest about it that even Levi, who was determined to resist and all of her charms couldn’t fault her. Their banter was such a fun part of their growing relationship and so was the bro and girl power they found along the way. Whether it was Levi and the boys bonding in (and out of) the locker room or Jordan connecting with Harper in the conference room, the friendships they grew outside of their relationship was just as important – and so, so entertaining!

If you haven’t read Chicago Rebels you need to as it gives more background and a lot more time to spend with these unforgettable players. I know there is more coming in this series and I (secretly) hope Theo is next…

Great story! Well-written characters. Levi was such good guy. Jordan was lovely, inside and out. I enjoyed reading their love story.

I enjoyed how Levi was with his teammates and he seemed like a interesting good guy. But the relationship with Jordan was meh at best. they just had so little chemistry.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Author Kate Meader knows how to write excellent MM hockey books but this was not one of my favorites. I really struggled to get into it.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

I was super excited to find out that Kate Meader is coming out with a spin-off for Chicago Rebels series. The three sisters who own a hockey team were pretty and their men are all kinds of yummy goodness. I enjoyed reading their stories. So getting more of this world is way welcomed.

In this new spin-off, the stories will continue with the members of the Rebels Hockey Team. How many books Meader plans for this, I’m not too sure. This first installment starts with Levi Hunt’s story. He is recently picked up by the Rebels but this rookie doesn’t always play nice with others. He’s not scoring any points with the fans either. Because all that matters in the world of hockey, Levi is instructed by the owners to play nice with everyone including the media. He is paired off with Jordan, a sports journalist who is to follow the team and to report who Levi truly is. In return, Jordan is hoping for a story that will give her a big break in her career.

I enjoyed the Good Guy as much as the books from the Chicago Rebels series. It has a similar vibe. You will get the yummy goodness of the players and the characters from the previous books. Yes, the sisters are still very much involved.

The relationship between Levi and Jordan was hot, funny, and uber sweet. I love Levi’s grumpy sexy persona. And no matter how he avoids talking about his military background, it shines right through him. His relationship with Jordan gets very complicated as both will have to handle difficult situations in their workplace and their personal lives, not to mention a very uncomfortable past. It was entertaining to read their journey to a HEA.

Kate Meader again wins the Cup with a hockey romance about second chances and being worthy of more, complete with a strong female character who's willing to stand up for herself and what she wants and not wait around for her knight in shining armour with Good Guy, the first in a spin-off series to her Chicago Rebels series.

Levi Hunt is the league's oldest rookie, having chosen to serve his country in the Green Berets when most players are getting drafted. Having finished his tours, he's called up from the Chicago Rebels' AHL farm team. After his first game, while facing the media, he's startled to see a pair of familiar eyes and flaming red hair in the crowd: Jordan Cooke, his best friend and fellow Green Beret's widow.

She's all sunshine and determined to make it big as a female sports journalist. He's Mount Grumpy who's too serious for his own good. Thrown together by the Rebels powers-that-be to do an in-depth media piece on the Rebels' new star, they're forced to deal with their pasts and misconceptions in order to make it work.

I seriously love Kate Meader's books...I'm always treated to a hot-as-sin guy and a "takes no shit" strong female character that I find a lot of romances lack. Plus, hockey. Can't go wrong!!

I also loved the glimpse at characters from the Chicaco Rebels series plus from her firefighter series, Hot in Chicago.

5-stars. Can't wait to read the next in the series!

I have chosen not to read/review this title as I was not able to connect with it or recommend it to the readers of our blog page or those who follow my reviews on Goodreads.

I apologize for the delay in this, as sending the negative reviews is something I (clearly) avoid doing for an embarrassingly long time.

Thank you, as always, for the review title.

LOOOOOOOOVED this novel! I worked with Veterans for a decade, so I appreciate a good veteran plot line in a romance novel. I'm looking forward to more of Meader's books.

Good Guy by Kate Meader

I'm a huge fan of Kate and Good Guy is so much fun. Everything I know about Hockey I've learned from romance novels. If you're a fan of hockey romances, Good Guy is perfect!

I loved the Chicago Rebels series so I was excited that author Kate Meader was going to continue in that world, and while I liked some things in this story there were quite a few that didn’t work for me. I think I struggled with Jordan as a character even though Levi was a good guy .I wasn’t emotionally engaged to the story and it took me longer than I expected to finish it!

This was a new author for me, and whilst I liked, no, loved Levi, I couldn't connect with Jordan. Everything was her way or the highway, or at least that's how I interpreted her actions etc.
The book is written well, the author does a fantastic job pulling the reader into the story, and I certainly felt some emotions, occasionally annoyance, but predominately lust for Levi.
I will certainly consider reading more from this author.

3.5-4 stars...
*this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review*

“Good Guy” is the first book in the Roomie Rebels series. This is a newer author for me, but I loved the storyline of the book.
Jordan Cooke, who’s a young, widowed sports reporter lands a new gig...interview the rookie player on the Rebels hockey team. Making it “big” as a reporter has always been her dream, and being offered this opportunity to move up the ladder, is not one to miss. Unfortunately, the rookie player is none other than Levi Hunt, her former husband’s best friend.
Levi Hunt grew up without much, but his talent to play hockey. He put his hockey career aside, and entered the service, where he was a Green Beret. During his service, he met “Cookie”..as he liked to call his best friend, and the two had each other’s backs. Levi has been in love with Jordan ever since he and Cookie met her at a bar. He’s enjoyed her from a distance, and all that shattered when his best friend past away. Now, Jordan has entered back into his life, and Levi isn’t sure how to move forward.
The concept of the story was great. I found that there were a lot of introductions to characters, which confused me at times. I also had a hard time visualizing some of the characters. All in all, the chemistry was good, story was easy to follow, and it was a quick read. I’d definitely read on in the series!

Hockey player and ex Special Forces veteran Levi Hunt and journalist Jordan have a complex history. Her husband and Levi were best fiends, however he lost his life during while serving and Levi and Jordan shouldn’t have chemistry after his death right?

Who doesn’t love a hockey romance?

So excited about a NEW Kate Meader series and this one totally lived up to my expectations! I love a good hockey romance and Kate delivers! I love that the heroine is a strong woman. And the way their relationship came together was really well done - their history wasn't ignored, they dealt with the past but moved forward together in an interesting way. Can't wait to see what is to come with the series!

***Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Meader LLC and Kate Meader. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own.***

I absolutely loved Good Guy, by Kate Meader. Levi is a hockey player in the NHL who put his career on hold to serve his country. Jordan, a sports writer, is assigned the story because of her personal connection to him. He fought alongside her husband, was best man at their wedding, and buried him with her. Levi is stoic and serious and certainly doesn’t seem comfortable around Jordan, but his team’s management is making him do the story. She’s got to get him to open up if she wants to break out of the small-town reporting gig she has.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book. It was incredibly well written, and included lots of thought provoking, current topics like sexual harassment and women in sports. Don’t even get me started on Levi. Talk about mysterious! He was as intense and swoon-worthy as they come. I loved Jordan too. She’s a kick-ass lead character with smarts, wit, honesty and courage. The whole off-limits connection between them was irresistible and delicious.

This story made me a fan of Meader instantly. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

But is he really a good guy? You need to read for yourself how she discovers the best in him and herself as you take this journey of fiction.

I liked this book on so many levels! First I loved that it didn't focus on hockey, yet it was still a main part of the story. Nothing against hockey, but I don't want to read page after page of detailed description of hockey games :-)

The story of how Jordan and Levi know each other is heartbreaking. I loved that their connection went beyond just her husband. I appreciated the author's portrayal of guilt in the story and how real it was.
