Kate Meader made my summer by revisiting Chicago with a new bunch of sexy hockey players.

I love that we get to see how the couples from the last books have been doing.

Meader will always be a one-click buy for me.

I liked this. I didn’t love it though, and that was mostly because I wasn’t invested in the connection between Levi and Jordan. I actually liked them individually, I enjoyed their personal journeys and I really appreciated a glimpse that the things women reporters have to go through in male-dominated sports.

I think it was the fact that I didn’t quite buy into Jordan’s feelings for Levi. I think there was a bit of repetitiveness when the story dove into the obstacles facing these two, and ultimately I wasn’t all in on their HEA. It was cute, but I wasn’t emotionally engaged, so it was easy to put down and finish just when I had time. I have adored Ms. Meader’s writing in the past, absolutely loved the Chicago Rebels series, so I wouldn’t say no to this spinoff, but this particular book was just ok for me. However, if you’re deep into hockey romances featuring love after spouse’s death (esp if that love is with his best friend), you may enjoy this more than I did.

Levi Hunt put his NHL hockey career on hold to serve his country. While deployed, his best friend is killed and he’s devastated. Returning home to attend his service, Levi reconnects with Jordan. The girl who got away, his one BIG regret. Prior to Jordan marrying his best friend, he had eyes for her but never asked her out. His best friend beat him to the punch, asking her out first. So she’s now off-limits! After his passing, Levi gets caught up in emotions and kisses Jordan. Yet another regret...

Jordan put her career on hold after marrying. While she didn’t regret it, she now finds it difficult to make it in the male-dominated career of sports reporting. Not only do woman sportscasters have to put up with their counterparts thinking they can’t possibly report on sports as they do, but they also have to endure sexual harassment. If they report an incident, they’re viewed as “not tough enough”. When Jordan catches her big break, she does everything she can to get the story in order to be taken seriously. Little does she know her story is her biggest regret.

Such an amazing story! Kate Meader takes serious topics and weaves them into an amazing storyline. Sexual harassment, homelessness, service dogs, are all difficult topics on their own. I loved that Levi was so protective of his friends at the food bank. Levi didn’t want or need the attention or accolades. I enjoyed Jordan’s antics and her ability to get Levi to open up. Once Levi realized he was a better teammate, player, and friend once he opened up to the idea that he deserved a good life—wow! What a transformation! I can’t wait to read about the other Rebel players! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Levi served his country with pride and then is attempting to have his hockey career back. His team the Chicago Rebels want to capitalize on his mystery and hired a reporter to do it. JOrdan has a past with Levi that is hard to understand and emotional difficult to deal with.

Meader has depth to her characters and brings to light issues with veterans that needs to addressed.

Loved Jordan’s and Levi’s story. Their past and how they both perceive it slowly unfolds in the book, as they fight each other, come together, shift away and ultimately realize they are meant to be. Levi in particular carries much guilt related to Jordan and her late husband. The author also does a great job on the hockey background and Levi’s relationship with his teammates and how he slowly grows into that role. The unconventional leadership and decisions of the Rebels makes for a exciting team, on and off the ice.

Ms Meader is one of my favorite contemporary authors and I absolutely loved this series which brought together 3 estranged sisters to create a family and a winning hockey team for Chicago. I thought the series over so I was pretty stoked to find this new book in the series.
Levi has a lot of baggage the least of which is the fact that he's the oldest rookie in the hockey league not to say that his diversion from professional hockey to serve his country makes excellent PR for his team. It's great fun to catch up on the characters that we met and loved in the original series even as Levi goes through his own transformation much as those players once did.
Jordan Cooke is the reporter chosen to work with Levi to create the right story for the team. While the owners and managers of the team know that Jordan and Levi have history no one really knows the truth. Will Jordan give up her chance at love in order to make her career? what a choice.
Another excellent entry into this series and another win for the author.

Luke and Jordan have a history. Luke was Jordan’s husband’s best friend. They were both Green Berets. The night of her husband’s funeral still lives vivid in Jordan’s mind. Will Levi ever open up to her enough to let her in as a journalist much less a friend?

I read every book in the Chicago Rebels and this is a spinoff series. I really enjoyed this book, however at first I struggled with the concept of this book. The more I read though I couldn't put it down. Jordan and Levi were just so well written that I could not, not love them.

Jordan and Levi knew each other previously. Levi is ex military, Green Beret. Jordan was married to Josh who was a Green Beret and same unit as Levi. Where the book starts is about 5 years after Josh has died. Levi is now playing hockey and is considered the oldest rookie in the NHL. He played hockey in college but decided to go into the Army instead of playing hockey professionally.

Even though Josh and Levi were very close Levi was always rude to Jordan except for the night of Josh's funeral. That night they were both drinking and full of grief. Josh and Jordan kissed and then immediately both called it a mistake. Jordan is trying to make it into the world of sports reporter. She applied for a job and she was hired for the job because they wanted her to use her connection with Levi to get the scoop on him because of his hero/oldest rookie status.

Jordan tries to talk with Levi his first game that he played very badly in and he is in shock because he has not seen her since the kiss 5 years ago. She explains to him she is a reporter and she got the job she has with CSN because of her connection with him via Josh. Levi pretty much makes her getting a story from him very hard at first. Ignores her calls, texts and goes out of his way when he sees her. Then they have one steamy interview and all bets are off.

I was afraid this book was going to be all about Josh and Levis grief of Josh and together. I was wrong, yes Josh was a factor but not constantly brought up. Levi though is just an all around good guy who hides it by being quiet and glaring. Although he cares for everyone around him and loves Jordan.

I really enjoyed this book. I received an advanced copy for an honest review.

Kate Meader launches a new series (connected to her Rebels series) with Good Guy. I was eager to read Good Guy because of the ex-military/sports aspect. The hero didnt disappoint at all. He truly was the epitome of a good guy. I liked him right away. The heroine was a different cup of tea, I started out not a fan of her at all. It is to Ms Meader's credit that she managed to make me care about the heroine by the end of the book! There is a slight out of balance feel to Good Guy, but I think that's due to it being a series launch; a lot of back story is included, and there are a lot of characters to introduce (or reintroduce for fans of Rebels). I will definitely read the series.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

Rookie Rebels #1, Yay Kate Meader!!! I am happy there are more Rebels, I love Kate Meader's books.

Levi Hunt truly is a good guy a former Green Beret a talented hockey play who could have gone pro but instead enlisted when he got out despite his age NHL and the Rebels called. All Levi wanted to do was leave his life the Special Forces behind him, he didn't want a lot of publicity only doing the obligatory interviews when needed, but then the bosses tell him a reporter is going to be following him around for a profile piece. Jordan Cooke loved Josh but she had put her life on hold for him when she married him and she can't spent her life grieving so she decided to finally live the life she wanted. She's making her way up the sports media chain with her podcast growing in popularity she's even been asked to fill in for the hockey writer on a larger network, all she has to do is follow Levi Hunt around for a month. It should have been an easy job, and the only way she got the job was because her history with Levi but the last time they saw each other Jordan had just buried her husband.

Jordan always assumed Levi didn't like her little did she know Levi has been half way in love with her since the moment he saw her, which happened to be moments before Josh did. Levi tries to avoid her but she still manages to insert herself into his life even uncovering the secrets he would rather remain hidden. The sexual tension builds until finally they both give in but with Jordan's reputation on the line they agree to keep it secret until after the article is published. But misogyny runs rampant when another sports reporter sabotages Jordan to the point where it not only damages her integrity as a reporter but also her relationship with Levi.

Overall, such a good read. I loved how sweet Levi could be and how Jordan was so determined. I loved their past history with each other and the female friendships and how they all stood by each other especially when the shit hit the fan. I really enjoy reading Kate Meader books, she's so great at character building and developing the friendship between the characters. I loved how we continue to see Remy and the OG Rebels.

First I want to thank NetGalley, and Kate Meader for the ARC of good guy. This was my first book from this author and I loved it. I loved Levi and Jordan. They shared a kiss in the past that was all wrong timing and now it's awkward but it was really fun watching their relationship unfold. He's a sexy hockey player her also serves his country and she's the widow of his best friend who also died serving their country. I was really invested from start to finish so safe to say I enjoyed it and the bantering between the two was fun. I recommend this one. It's the first in a series so can't wait for book 2

I enjoyed this hockey romance but ultimately the heroine fell flat and so I didn't find the story as convincing.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was an okay read. It's my first book by Kate Meader, but I really think I should have started with her previous hockey series. I think I might just do that and read Good Guy again. I might come back and rewrite this review.

This is book one in the new Rookie Rebels Series a spin off from the Chicago Rebels and what a great start the Good Guy is to what looks like yet another must read series for hockey fans, it’s a book that will steal your heart as you get you know Levi and Jordan whilst reading their love story.
Levi is a Special Forces veteran making his pro hockey debut, a man who put his hockey career on hold so he could serve his country but now he is back with the Chicago Rebels and his bosses expect him to cooperate with the press and that means talking to Jordan who is not only a sports writer determined to get her story but she is also his best friends widow.....
A couple you can’t help loving and feeling for because they have gone through so much in the past but now it’s the present and maybe they can learn from each other as they trust each other with secrets they thought they could never share. This book will appeal to lovers of Sports Romance and Second Chance Romance, it can be read as a stand-alone but I’m sure once you read this one you will want to catch up with the other Chicago Rebels. Looking forward to more in this series.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
It’s official! My new favourite sport in sports romance is ice hockey! These men are just YUM. This book not only bought the yumminess factor but also the woman empowerment factor. The heroine is a woman in a male dominated field and the author did not back down in writing about it. Even better was that it was written in a way where it wasn’t shoved down my throat and didn’t overpower the storyline.
.
Our hero has returned from military life to enter the world as a civilian but also a pro hockey player civilian. Our heroine is a sports journalist and is sent in to write “the” article on pro ice hockey’s new mystery man..... and also her dead husband’s best friend.
.
I loved the spin in that it was the hero who had issues coming to terms with his feelings for his best friend’s widow and our heroine owned her feelings and there was no sense of betrayal. I thought this was written beautifully and her feelings for her first husband were not pushed to the side either. The hero was so full of feels I couldn’t help but fall for him- beta hero dream goal right here! Looking forward to the next in the series!

I've never seen a single hockey game in my entire life, but I love this series so much.

Green Beret war hero has been secretly in love with his deceased best-friend's widow for years? Said widow is a sports reporter tasked with getting him to open up about his past for the media? SIGN. ME. UP.

Loved!

I mean, it's a continuation of the Chicago Rebels series (hockey players!!!) with a slight crossover with Hot in Chicago series (firefighters!!!) thrown in for flavor, so my at least liking it was probably pretty much a given, but still.

So. Good!

Both Jordan and Levi are starting over. He's recently out of the Army (Special Forces) and going back to his other career choice, NHL hockey, where he immediately becomes a known thing because 1) he's the oldest rookie of his class and 2) I mentioned the Special Forces thing, right? Jordan, a widow of five years, is trying to make it big in sports reporting. She'd put her career on hold while married (moving from base to base not being conducive with the reality of making it big as a sports reporter while female) but now an opportunity has opened up and she can't say no. Because she knows Levi already--he served with her husband and was not only his BFF but also the best man at their wedding.

Teensy little complication--he hates her. Or does he?

I enjoyed the push and pull between Jordan and Levi, and I freaking loved the camaraderie that Levi developed with the rest of his team, especially "Superglutes" Theo Kershaw (please tell me he's getting a book!). Ms. Meader did a fantastic job with Jordan's past--it's been five years, and though she loved her husband and thinks of him every day, she's ready to move on; no vilification needed. Woot! Even Levi's guilt had more to do with his sense of self worth than the fact that she was his best friend's widow; I really liked how that was handled. Zero percent of my widow-story rage triggers were triggered.

Plus, hockey. And snark with a side of banter. And more hockey. And a dog. I'm not sure what else could possibly be needed...

Good Guy is the first in a new series, and would make an excellent introduction to the author. (But you did see the previous mentions of more hockey players and firefighters, right? Read this and then get on that backlist ASAP. Trust me on this!)

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I was excited to read the first book in Kate Meader’s new series the Rookie Rebels. The two main characters, Levi and Jordan care about each other but are afraid to show their true feelings. I found it easy to connect with the characters and I enjoyed reading their story.

Levi gave up his dream of playing professional hockey when he joined the military and became a Green Beret. Now, at the age of thirty, he can’t believe he has the chance to play professional hockey with the Rebels. The Rebels are not your typical hockey team, they don’t do things by the book, they do things their way. Levi is different from the other hockey player and everyone is interested in his story, but Levi is reluctant to talk about himself.

Jordan’s husband died in the military when she was only twenty-three and now she is a reporter trying to make a name for herself. Levi was a friend of Jordan’s husband and she is not happy when she is assigned to get Levi’s story. Jordan isn't sure what to do, she doesn’t want Levi to think she is trying to take advantage of their past relationship. To make matters worse, their is a spark between Levi and Jordan, which they find hard to avoid. I enjoyed this heartwarming hockey romance by Kate Meader.
