Sadie and her family have inherited a house and an orphaned niece on an island. They move into the house to get away from some issues. The niece is Gothic and doesn't want Sadie to her guardian. One night their neighbor is found murdered, and the island police suspect Sadie. How will she convince them that she didn't do it?
This was my second read by Mary Kubica. I liked this much more than The Good Girl. At first, I thought I knew what was going to happen, but then Kubica turns things around.

** spoiler alert ** I had high hopes for this one since I remember loving The Good Girl, but unfortunately am not a fan. The characters were very hard to like (especially Sadie, the main character) and the plot was not realistic to me. It’s hard to be invested in a story where the main character does things that don’t even make sense and you’re left just shaking your head... (example: when she steals the keys, breaks into someone’s house, and never gets caught or returns the keys?)

Will this book deter me from reading other books by Kubica? No, I would definitely give another one of her books a try just because of how much I remember loving The Good Girl years ago.

Mary Kubica seems to be wanting to try to come up with the most ridiculous twist in her past two books. For those that read When the Lights Go Out, you'll know what I mean with that one, but this one wasn't much better. I have a hard time when I'm reading a good book that has captivated my attention, and then something comes out of the blue that not only did I not see coming, but also doesn't really fit.

Sadie is our main narrator, as she just moved to Maine with her husband and two boys. Her husband's sister just died, leaving behind her teenaged niece, Imogen. They move into her house to take custody of Imogen. This doesn't go smoothly, but is made more difficult by the murder of their neighbor about two months after they moved in. Sadie becomes obsessed with this (to the point where there is literally breaking and entering houses going on) and it's hard to believe that she is a doctor and the family breadwinner based on her behavior.

The other two narrators are "Mouse," a child being abused by her step-mother and Camille, who is sleeping with Sadie's husband. These do tie together by the end, but they way it was done just didn't work for me.

This was a fast paced, quick read that had a deeper plot than I thought when I began the book. I have read Ms.Kubica before and I knew I was in for a good ride!

I an really getting to be a big fan of Mary Kubica! Each book gets better and better! The Other Mrs. was simply fantastic! Remote island, creepy atmosphere and more secrets than you can shake a stick at! And those last couple chapters! WOW!!!

When I read a Mary Kubica thriller, I must have the whole day ahead to read because I will not stop until I finish. Once again in her latest, The Other Mrs, Kubica has produced a real page turner of suspense. Just when I thought I had figured it out, I was SO WRONG! Never saw the twist coming. No wonder I couldn’t figure it out!

Sadie has been through the wringer with a troubled son, a cheating husband, and a nervous breakdown on her high stress emergency room doc job in Chicago. When her husband Will inherits a home in Maine along with guardianship of an underage niece, he thinks it could be their “fresh start.” Sadie does not feel as enthused, and the niece Imogen is just another burden added to Sadie’s growing list.

When a murder occurs in their new neighborhood, Sadie is ready to leave, especially after being accused by the neighbors of having had an altercation with the dead neighbor…who Sadie has never even met having plunged back to work in an overly busy doctor’s office while womanizer Will is working part-time while also being a house-husband. It seems all the problems from Chicago have followed the family – including Will’s mistress Camille -- and are now multiplying.

Mary Kubica is a talented storyteller. A one-time high school history teacher, she lives outside of Chicago with her family. This is her fifth psychological thriller, and I have enjoyed them all.

The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica was a frightening ball of twists and turns. Not to give too much away but I'm here to tell you the big twist is mind-blowing and the writing climatic. I plan to read more Mary Kubica in the future.

Written in multiple perspective format to throw off the reader, The Other Mrs. has every cliche you could have in a psychological thriller. Without giving away vital parts to the book, all I can say is that the formulaic approach dulls out the suspenseful portions. The book is too similar to ones I have read before and does not have anything that sets it apart. As The Other Mrs. flips between perspectives, it is up to the reader to figure out who the other characters are. With too many side plots and a main story that is flawed from the outset, there was not much that I liked about The Other Mrs. For these reasons, I would not recommend the book to other readers.

The Other Mrs. gives you all the thriller vibes! This book kept me guessing most of the way through.
The ends and outs of this family were never ending.

This was the first book I have read by the author, Mary Kubica. What a roller coaster this book turned out to be! I was sure I had it all figured out but then was shocked to read how it all turned out! I really enjoyed this book!! I look forward to reading more by this author!

I loved this book. The atmosphere was everything I wanted it to be. I loved the plot and storyline in the book. I loved the characters in this story. It gave me all the feels I was looking for when I started reading this. I highly recommend this author. I loved the writing. I will be looking for other works in the future from this author.

Wow! Mary Kubica never disappoints when it comes to twists and turns.

I love a thriller with multiple POVs. This book is told mostly by 3 different people, a child named “Mouse”, and 2 adult women, Sadie and “the other woman” and then a 4th POV, Will the husband, comes in near the end.

Sadie and her family have to move to a small island town off the coast of Maine to take care of their niece after her sister in law takes her own life. One of the first nights there, their neighbor was murderer. Sadie suspects it is her slightly disturbed niece, but feels like the detective is determined to pin it on her.

Overall, this was an excellent read. I do read a lot of thrillers, so I guessed the twist about half way through, but it was still so captivating all the way to the end.

I really enjoyed this book. It hooked me from the beginning and the ending satisfied me.

I would recommend this book if you like a good solid thriller.

Sadie and Will move from Chicago to Maine to take over guardianship of Will's niece after his sister commits suicide.  We have a creepy old house where a death has occurred, a secretive niece, a son who seems to be becoming violent, a murdered neighbor and a stalker - along with tons of twists and turns.  There were some believability issues, but, overall, an enjoyable read.

The book is told from a few POV's Mostly Sadie's, but then we also have Camille (Will's lover) / Will and then a 6 year old girl name Mouse. I loved Mouse, but warning she has a mean Step mother (who she calls Fake mom) and there is a bit of abuse.

I have to say I liked the last half of the book better. Through most of the first half I just kept shaking my head and thinking.

Very suspenseful. Characters were well drawn and memorable. I liked the setting in Maine, as I live in New England. Mary Kubica is a very descriptive writer and I enjoy this. I know her books will keep me glued to the story until the very last page and this one was no exception. I could not put it down. I figured out the twist partway through the book, but still enjoyed reading it. I will recommend to patrons at my library.

Such a different thriller experience. I began this book with the premise that this couple goes through an affair and moves towns and then this murder happens in the neighborhood. While reading it I was constantly trying to figure out what was happening and who was the murderer but truly couldn’t figure it out until the twisting ending. This book was a little darker than I thought, so be warned, triggers for death, child abuse and suicide.

I think Mary Kubica's books are perfect for things like plane rides, where you just want to be absorbed in a story for awhile and pass the time. I guessed at least one of the twists pretty early on, but there was enough to keep me reading and enjoying it.

Surprises from start to finish! THE OTHER MRS. by Mary Kubica was attention grabbing from the first page, and though slightly disjointed occasionally between characters, it takes a reader on a diabolical ride to discover who really killed the lady next door ... and what's really going on inside this new house.

Sadie Foust paints a picture of herself that keeps a reader entrenched to see what's going on with her husband, her sons, her niece and most of all with the house that felt off from the second they moved in.

Will Foust comes across as the doting husband and father, but she hints at another side to him. Does he know more about the neighbor than he proclaims?

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a thriller that keeps you guessing from start to finish with intricate plot points, intense characters and diabolical terror!
