This was one creepy read friends! We have 3 main narrators, Sadie (married to Will), Camille (Sadie's former roommate and wanna be the wife of Will), and Mouse (a young girl who plays a pretty big part of the story, tho you don't know it at first).

Sadie is a doctor and she and her husband, Will, with their two sons, move from Chicago to a small town in Main after his sister commits suicide. They live in her house and are left with taking care of her 16-year-old, very troubled daughter, Imogene. Imogene is pretty disturbed and full of hate and resentment. Not long after moving in a neighbor is brutally killed. As the plot moves along Sadie begins to suspect a murderer might just reside right in her own household.

Some twists and turns move the plot along and make for a dynamic read. I don't wanna spoil anymore. Many thanks to NG and the publisher for a digital copy to read for review. Highly recommended!

I was excited to get my digital copy, as I’ve read some of Mary Kubica’s books in the past (The Good Girl being my favorite). I had some trouble getting into this novel and then the storyline just didn’t seem believable to me. It was a classical twisty story . 2.5 stars

While this wasn't my favorite of Mary Kubica's books, I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Her writing is wonderful and I always enjoy it, but I think this storyline just wasn't my favorite. Still a good read, and I think a great book club pick!

Sadie and Will move to Maine for a fresh start. After Will’s sister ends her life, he inherits her old house and gains custody of her teenage daughter. Sadie is a doctor and Will is a college professor, with two beautiful boys, and their life appears to be perfect. But things are far from idyllic. Will is a philander, and Sadie is still seething from a past affair. Imogen, Will’s niece, is hiding a big secret, and she’s chosen Sadie to unburden them one by one. At the same time, their beautiful next-door-neighbor is found dead. Who killed Morgan? It could be the husband. It’s almost always the spouse. But — in a head-scratching twist — the police turn to Sadie as a person of interest. Why on earth would they think she has something to do with it? To make matters worse, she appears to have a stalker. Well, not her per se, but Will. The woman is interested in Will, but she’s targeting Sadie. If that wasn’t bad enough, Sadie’s older son is showing some rather disturbing behavior. Their move to Maine has only made things worse for this family.

You know when you see a profile photo on social media and it looks so perfect that you almost — ALMOST — forget that their life is a sham? Nothing is as it seems in THE OTHER MRS. This book kept me reading from beginning to end. I write this kind of fiction. I know all about red herrings, dark secrets and unreliable narrators, but I was still pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I don’t want to give away anything, but this book goes in-depth into various tough issues, such as abuse, mental health issues, personality disorders, and emotional manipulation. Mary Kubica handles these subjects with the accuracy and dignity they deserve. I must warn some readers that the abuse scenes are disturbing. There’s no violence in these scenes, but they’re nevertheless disquieting. The suspense carried me throughout the book, and I’m glad to see that Kubica, after many books, finally gets some love from Hollywood: a film deal with Netflix. Can’t wait to see what they do with it.

Downsides? There are some plot holes, some things left unexplored and unexplained. I got an Uncorrected Proof for this book, so it’s possible that she fixed these things in the final copy. I’ll give the author some love by buying and reading the final copy. I will edit this review if she fixed those areas. Other than that, this is an absolute must-read. I wasn't a fan of THE GOOD GIRL, but Kubica won me over with this gem. Perfect read for this current lockdown situation. Five solid cinnamon and almond milk iced lattes.

I love everything from this author. This title was more difficult to get into the flow of the story. I plan on revisiting at a later date!

Sadie, her husband Will, and their two boys relocate to a remote island off the coast of Maine in order to take care of Will’s niece, Imogen, when her mother dies unexpectedly. They inherit a creepy old house and are looking for a fresh start and a new life away from their troubles back home in Chicago. Told through multiple points of view, strange things start to happen in their quiet neighborhood. When Morgan is murdered, everyone is on edge. Who killed Morgan? Why does Sadie find herself as a person of interest in the investigation? Who can she trust?

I really enjoyed the creepy setting of this story. The characters are isolated during winter in Maine and live in an old gothic house full of mystery. This really set the tone for the loneliness and inner turmoil Sadie feels. While I did guess the basic twist in this story very early on, I was actively engaged in guessing the rest of the plot. This book is very suspenseful, full of red herrings and eventually put a new spin on the average memory loss story. I think this is Kubica’s best book since her debut, The Good Girl. However, I wish she would have spent more time unpacking the ending, as it feels very rushed and I still have a few lingering questions.

I was a big fan of Mary Kubica's "The Good Girl," and this follow-up did not disappoint. It was a quick, suspenseful thriller that kept me turning the pages to the very end.

I just finished reading The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica and I gave this book 4.5 stars, this book was good. The twists and turns was unexpected for me and different too. The book was about Sadie and Will Foust have only just moved their family from bustling Chicago to small-town Maine when their neighbor Morgan Baines is found dead in her home. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie.

But it’s not just Morgan’s death that has Sadie on edge. And as the eyes of suspicion turn toward the new family in town, Sadie is drawn deeper into the mystery of what really happened that dark and deadly night. But Sadie must be careful, for the more she discovers about Mrs. Baines, the more she begins to realize just how much she has to lose if the truth ever comes to light.

I just heard this book is coming to Netflix and becoming a Netflix Original Film and I can’t wait to watch. I totally recommend this book it was very and suspenseful

There is a particular resolution that a writer can provide to a mystery or thriller novel, and I personally find it to be a huge let down for several reasons. 1.) It's been done before. Lots. 2.) It's so unbelievable and unrealistic that even if it was a fresh new idea, I would still roll my eyes.

Was this entertaining? I guess. I kind of wanted to know what was going to happen. Were there other issues along the way (in addition to the ridiculous ending) that caused me pause as a reader? Yes, definitely. I was already put off by the time I got there.

The only reason it gets two stars instead of one is that the twist AFTER the twist was actually kind of a surprise. Overall, I just can't recommend this one.

I am a huge fan of Mary Kubica's Novels! I was super excited to get my hands on an advance copy of her new novel The Other Mrs. It started off creepy and it continued to get even creepier! This book is a dark and twisty psychological thriller that I couldn't put down! I kept trying to figure out what was going on and just when I thought I had figured it out there was a huge twist! I loved it!

I was plugging along and around the half way point I was so bored I decided to skip to the last few chapters. ugh.

Let’s just say this book didn’t work me and I wouldn’t have requested it had I know what the “twist” was all about.

Mary Kubica is back with another psychological thriller where a move for a fresh start is not what the family gets:

Sadie, her husband Will and their two sons move to a small town island in Maine, where the only way on and off is by ferry. They are moving there as Will's sister committed sucide and they need to take care of their niece who they do not know and they are needing to get away from Will's other Mrs. They think that by leaving Chicago and her behind that they will get the fresh start that their family needs. Then just a few months in living there, there is a murder up the street and everyone is a suspect, especially the new people who just moved into town. Sadie finds herself drawn into the investigation, trying to figure out what happens, but she has this every present feeling that someone is watching her and that she has the most to lose.

I have read quite a few books by Kubica now and I think that this is my favourite book so far and I think this has to do that the plot within this book was much more complex than the other books that I have read by her. I think part of this is that she has changed up the format a bit. All of her previous books that I have read had two time frames that were slowly getting closer and closer together, where this one is all in the same time frame, except for one of the characters is from the past. In this book there is the murder up the street, the death of her husband's sister, inheriting a grieving niece, Sadie and having the feeling that her husband is still cheating on her and well the police suspecting she has something to do with it all. There are a lot of facts to sift through and this is further enhanced with the multiple points of view, which I enjoyed.

There are three main points of view; Sadie, Camille and Mouse, and they all add something different to the story. But at the same time they all present the same thing that they want, love and acceptance. Sadie wants to be loved by her husband, Will, and be the only woman in his life, which she is sure she is not. Camille wants to be loved by Will and be the only woman in his life and will go to great lengths to achieve that (see the similarity there) and Mouse a young girl just wanted to be accepted and loved by her step mother, but that seems impossible. I think my one problem with the multiple points of view was there were times where they gave too much away that I was able to figure out the vast majority of what the big twists were going to be. However, I still enjoyed the intricate ride that Kubica takes you on. Oh and its in a small coastal town where gossip is a job i swear, what more could I ask for.

This was a great book and I highly recommend it if you like the mystery and psychological thriller genres. I was really impressed with the plot that Kubica created and I think her novels are getting better and better. I look forward to see what she comes up with next.

This kept my attention and was twisty enough that I really enjoyed it. Definitely a strong thriller. I"m usually pretty stingy with stars, but I think I'll round up to a 4!

This was my first read by Ms. Kubica and it will be my last. To say I was disappointed, is putting it mildly. I finished the book, but, it took over a month to get it read. It started out boring and slow, but, I was hopeful it would pick up. While the author did a good job with all the twists and turns in the story, the character development was seriously lacking. Especially with Dr. Sadie Foust, a trained medical physician. A physician that goes through years of training, including, learning about psychiatric abnormalities and disorders. Thus, the aspects and particulars regarding her character were simply, unbelievable.

Secondly, there were grammatical errors with the relation to the writing of the character, Mouse, a shy six year old female child. There was no fluidity with the writing of this character. Mouse's character was written, at times, as if she was living in the past. While, at other times, as if she was living in the present. Confusing at best. In my humble opinion, this did not make for good reading material. It didn't add to the complexity of the novel, but only served to confuse the reader, thus causing frustration instead of enjoyment.

Lastly, there was no closure with the character Imogene and her late mother, Alice. In fact, there were so many different scenarios going on in this novel, many were left hanging and unanswered by the end of the story-line.

I had such high expectations for this book and was excited to have an opportunity to read it; as it had been hyped up tremendously by the publishing house. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed.

This dark psychological thriller takes you on a wild ride. There are so many twists and turns. I thought I had it figured out, but that ending really surprised me. This was my first Mary Kubica book and it won’t be my last.

The Other Mrs. was typical Kubica fare - dark and twisty. I had a hard time buying the story however; it didn't ring true to me and I had a hard time getting invested.

I really enjoyed The Other Mrs! I wasn't totally sure what to expect going into the book, and I ended up being pleasantly surprised. I sped through the book, trying to get answers to my questions! When Sadie's neighbor dies under suspicious circumstances, she can't help but wonder what happened, and who the potential killer might be. She lives in a small town, so she's convinced it has to be someone she knows. When evidence starts pointing toward Sadie herself, she falls deeper down the rabbit hole of Morgan's death. 

The story was told through three primary voices: Sadie's, a woman named Camille who seems to know and despise Sadie, and a young girl referred to as Mouse. It's not initially clear how these three storylines will come together, so I loved trying to figure it out. Sadie was our main narrator, and I enjoyed her chapters! I keep writing and deleting parts of this review, because I don't want to give anything away, and I truly think that the less you know about this one going into it, the better! That said, I'll keep this review short and sweet. 

I had a lot of theories about what happened to Morgan, and a lot of suspects. Eventually I figured out some of the pieces of the puzzle, however I didn't completely figure it all out, so I really enjoyed the ending of the book. I felt like the writing was quick and engaging, and there were enough questions raised and puzzle pieces provided throughout the story to give the reader the opportunity to play detective!  

Overall, I rated this one 4 stars, and highly recommend it for fans of domestic suspense! I haven't read all of Kubica's work, but this is my favorite of those I have read by her so far!

Sadie Foust has had a sense of foreboding ever since she first saw the house they had inherited from her husband's sister. Along with the house came an extra responsibility in the form of her niece, Imogen. Sixteen years old, surly, disrespectful, goth, and overly fond of expletives. Not exactly the example Sadie wants to have for her own two boys, Otto aged fourteen, and Tate, aged seven. But what can she do? The poor girl is grieving after the very recent suicide of her mother in this very house.

When Sadie, a doctor, learns of the murder of one of her neighbors, she is even more uneasy. The house is situated on a tiny island off the coast of Maine. Winter is drawing in, days are short, and the thought of murder being committed so close, in such an insular community, ratchets up her stress levels.

This is not exactly the 'fresh start' that she and her husband had hoped for. They left behind some troubling memories in Chicago. Her husband Will's extramarital affair, her son Otto's expulsion from school, not to mention her own employment disgrace...

Sadie feels trapped on this tiny island and she misses her former city life in Chicago. One of the local, older nurses at the surgery where she works treats Sadie with disdain and disrespect. One wonders why Sadie puts up with her behavior... Then things go from bad to worse when disturbing events seem to cast the Foust family under suspicion.

Sadie is not the only woman in Will's life. He also has a mistress. Her name is Camille. Camille was once Sadie's roommate in college. She seems mentally unbalanced and stalks Will. Think "Fatal Attraction" type of behavior...

And then there is Mouse. Mouse is a little girl. She and her Daddy live together alone until one day Daddy bring home a woman. He wants Mouse to call the woman Mom. Mouse will never call this woman Mom. In her head she calls her "Fake Mom".

MY THOUGHTS

I have to say I love an island setting. It is just something about the whole insular vibe. Knowing that the number of suspects is limited, and that the person responsible for the murder could be any one of the people you see on a daily basis. Add to that the fact that winter is approaching, the days are short, the temperature getting colder every day. To say the novel is 'atmospheric' seems inadequate.

A page turner, "The Other Mrs." keeps the reader on edge throughout. Not only were you wondering who could have killed Sadie's neighbor, but you were also wondering about Mouse and speculating what a little girl could possibly have to do with the story-line. Then there was also Camille. She seemed deranged, but was that only back when she and Will had an affair, or is she still around???

And Sadie, she seems unreliable. Other people, including her own children, see her doing things and see her in places when they couldn't possibly see her. She was at work. Wasn't she? The stress of the move coupled with the stress of the murder seems to be causing her to have sleepless nights and disjointed days.

The characters in this novel were not at all likeable, but they were endlessly fascinating. The pace was fast, with the tension ramping up the whole way through. About 2/3 of the way through, I had strong suspicions as to what was going on, but that didn't stop me feverishly turning pages to see if I was right. And I was right, but I was also very wrong! This is a story of manipulation.

This book has a twist that I definitely didn't see coming.

This is my first Mary Kubica novel and after reading this one I have to wonder why I have waited so long to try her writing. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys domestic, psychological thrillers. And if you like reading an unreliable narrator, then this book is definitely for you.

Loved it. There were so many twists and turns and clues to be had. Get ready for a roller coaster ride.
