To be completely honest, I found this book disappointing. It had some wonderful elements, particularly the characters and the back-story about life in Cuba before the protagonist rafted to the U.S. But it was billed as a mystery novel and never really achieved the pacing or sense of unknown-waiting-to-be-uncovered that one expects from a mystery.
