Going through my old ARCs and found this. I’ve never read anything in the Friends series so I went in blind as this is a prequel. Even with it being very quick read, I was not a fan. I found the characters to be unlikeable. I’m not planning on continuing the series.

I feel like I wasted so much of my time reading this book. Everyone in this book cheated on everyone and the level of betrayal was unreal. It took me way too long to read this and by the end I was annoyed and pissed off that I even read it.

Monica Murphy is a known author to me I actually met her at a book signing and she is super sweet and just darling.

ONE NIGHT is the prequel to Monica's book l JUST FRIENDS,
Honestly I didn't know how I would feel about this book prequel's aren't always to my liking.
This one was a bit different she gives up just a glimpse into each characters life and what they are like and
what their story is. I did enjoy the glimpse and love how you want to know about each character.

Monica Murphy has brought us A Just Friends prequel. There is a party at Jordan Tuttle's house and everyone is there including Olivia, Dustin, Emily, Cannon, and Amanda. We go through the party with each character as they try to make the most out of life. Olivia's plan is to have a great time with her best friends Dustin and Emily before leaving the following day. Dustin wants Olivia to see him more than her best friend. Emily is determined to hook up with anyone. Cannon decides he wants something that is more than just a hook up and decides that Emily is that person. Jordan is the popular guy who can get anyone and anything. Amanda finds her boyfriend and best friend enjoying one of the rooms upstairs and lands right into Jordan.

We just get a glimpse of who these characters are and Monica has set things up so that you are wanting more. Can Dustin and Olivia survive her absence? Can Cannon finally get Emily out of wanting to hook up with anyone? Will Jordan get Amanda after she learns about her boyfriend and best friend? The prequel is exactly that: it sets the reader up so they are ready and have the background knowledge of what happened to them before reading Just Friends. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and look forward to seeing what happens to them next. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Social Butterfly PR for this privilege.

I haven't read any of the other stories, but this novella was interesting. I liked how it gave you different points of views from each character. I was definitely interested in the characters and am looking forward to reading more of the series at some point.

What a nice find. This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written and the characters were fantastic.

I have not read the first book this book wasn’t too bad but it wasn’t that good either it was in the middle for me I don’t like books with a lot of sex in it and with horrible guys and girls just going along with it. So all in all I didn’t hate it or love it

I started this while I was in the ER — stupid me didn’t bring a book and needed something to do; thank you, Kindle app! — and was kind of surprised it was cute.

While I’m not 100% sure I needed to read any of the actual series to read One Night, since it’s a prequel and novella, it wasn’t hard to get into.

All the characters are naïve and basic teens, only interested in hooking up and such. We watch a handful of kids, each chapter from a different POV, during a single night at a high school party.

Olivia was a bitch and couldn’t stand the way she treated everyone, especially Dustin. And Olivia and Emily’s friendship? What a joke. Every character had flaws and there was no bounce back from that.

Here’s the thing, though. I’m actually kind of interested in reading the rest of the series. The only couple that remotely interested me was Amanda and Tuttle, only because it seemed like an unlikely pair.

If you’re into high school teen drama, want a quick read, then yeah . . . go for it. Otherwise, maybe don’t waste your time.

3 for neutral, will update if able to finish at a later date. I think I need to read the other book, in order to enjoy this one, because it never grabbed me.

I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

One night is a prequel. So it's a quick, easy read.
The writing style is great. The characters are welldeveloped and easy to follow their storyline.

While I was looking for a fun prequel to a series that I enjoyed, that is not what this book delivered. Livvy was so unlikeable in this book. I wish she had stook up for herself more. So much cheating! It was really hard for me to connect or root for these characters.

One night is about a high school party thrown by the rich Jordan Tuttle. Amanda who Jordan likes finally comes to his party, Olivia who is leaving for her dads house the next day, Dustin who likes Olivia, Emily who is acting weird and Cannon. Short interesting story Prequel to Just Friends.

This book is pretty bad and so are the other books in the series. There is too much sex in it for a high school book. The girls are obsessed with the guys and let them mistreat them and the guys are just awful.

I received a free e-copy through NetGalley from the publicists at Social Butterfly PR.

It’s the night before Olivia is leaving to spend most of the summer at her dad’s house, and she’s determined to make the most of it with her two best friends, Dustin and Emily. They’re meeting Em at a party at legendary football player (and bad boy) Jordan Tuttle’s house, but on the way there, Dustin makes it clear he wants to be more than friends. Meanwhile, Amanda is looking for her boyfriend at the party when she walks in on him with her best friend. Angry and upset, she finds herself alone with Jordan, who is–strangest of all–being nice to her. If one thing is certain, it’s that it will be a night Livvy and her friends will never forget. Trigger warnings: sexism, womanizing, sexual harassment, bullying, drug/alcohol use. NSFW content.

I mistakenly thought that since I’d enjoyed Murphy’s Pretty Dead Girls, I would also enjoy her Friends series, and I requested this prequel novella before I realized how wrong I was. One Night is both a little better and slightly worse than Just Friends, so let’s begin with the bad, which can be summed up by the kind of content it is. It’s rare to find a prequel or a companion novella to a series that’s worth reading; unless you love the characters or the world, they typically don’t add anything meaningful to the universe, and One Night doesn’t break the mold. It barely has any plot of its own, and we already know pretty much everything that happens from Livvy’s reflections in the first book.

It’s slightly better because it has more character perspectives. Though they’re all at the same party, we have chapters from Livvy, Dustin, Amanda, Jordan, Emily, and Cannon’s POVs. It’s a lot for a short read, but I enjoyed the way it kept things moving. It also made me realize that I may have liked Just Friends more if someone else had been narrating, since Livvy and Dustin’s chapters were the worst. He has a sense of entitlement to her that’s seriously off-putting, and Livvy seems to have a realization about him early in the novella that it took her most of the first book to articulate (a little continuity disturbance?). I still like Amanda, and I liked having a little more insight into Emily’s character. However, while fans of the series might enjoy it, I’m not tempted to continue.

This was a short prequel to the Just Friends series. The story was straight to the point and introduced us to a bunch of characters that I can only assume Just Friends will be about. Each chapter is a different person's point of view but them tend to follow the same time line and just switch whose point of view it is. Mostly, the story is about a bunch of horny teens drinking, partying and trying to get into each others pants. I personally wasn't a fan of several of the main characters which makes me not want to continue this series. Olivia is just a jerk who treats Dustin like crap. Dustin seems like he tries to be the good guy, but has his faults. Emily is just a slut who has to have some underlying issues. Cannon, Amanda and Tuttle were the only characters that I would be more interested in knowing more about and seeing where their story goes.

I had read quite a lot of long books and fancied a shorter read, so when I came across this one on my kindle. I thought I would give this one a go. I really like the cover and it certainly fits the book giving it a contemporary romantic feel. There is a “warning” with this book as there is adult content. To be honest with what programmes show on tv these days I don’t let the warning put you off. I would say older teens as a minimum age so I would probably remove the YA label and add NA instead.

The book is about a group of friends who each have their own problems, thoughts and romantic notions. The party at Jordan Tuttle’s house is the main venue of what goes on in the book. We meet Dustin and Olivia first as they are going to a party. Olivia immediately wants to know where their other constant friend, Emily is. When Dustin explains she is meeting them at the party she is a little shocked as the arrangement had been for them all to go to the party together. Though the three are all good friends, lately the “friend” label has been changing a little for Dustin and Olivia and they have been in Olivia’s words “messing about” a little. Olivia is worried that if they change from a friendship to a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship and things go wrong it will spoil everything. The whole is it more than a friendship relationship is further complicated by the fact Olivia sets off to her fathers home the day after the party for the rest of the summer. Olivia has grown to hate going to her fathers but her when her mum points out it will probably the last time, she will go for some time due to going to university etc. Olivia caves and agrees to go.

Everyone that’s anyone and everyone else too, is at Jordan Tuttle’s party. His parents are away a lot and his parties are somewhat famous or perhaps that should be notorious. The house is palatial inside with en suite rooms, a hot tub, swimming pool and more to be used. Jordan is a love them and leave them kind of guy but when an opportunity of something with a girl he would like more from arises should he take it or not. Can he get Amanda to trust him?

Emily is at the party when Dustin and Olivia arrive, she’s already had plenty to drink, or could she be high too? Emily tries to play up to Dustin, but he only has eyes for Olivia. Even though Emily is quite literally offering herself on a plate to anyone and everyone. Emily is becoming known as the girl that gives good “blow-jobs” to whoever shows her attention.

It’s as if there’s something weird in the air or the drinks because Cannon is also usually a love and leave them guy too, but he turns out to be a fairly sweet guy who doesn’t want to take advantage of a drunk Emily. In fact, he prevents others from taking advantage of her too.

The book is told from the different points of view of the party goers. The majority of the book deals with the party itself and what goes on and it’s fall out. There is also a smaller section that occurs when Olivia returns from her father’s home. It seems Emily has become very “popular” whilst Olivia has been away. There is also an introduction of a new character called Ryan who is a rather confident, if not over confident new pupil at their school. When Olivia meets him at Emily’s house, he is somewhat over familiar with her, and actually flirts with her despite knowing of her fledgling relationship with Dustin. Though Dustin does seem to have attracted the attention of a persistent girl whilst Olivia has been missing over the summer.

I enjoyed reading the novella. Monica Murphy created some great characters and I would like to read more and learn more about them.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing the book were
Really enjoyed reading about the different characters. Definitely adding book one to my “Want To Read” Wishlist
Hope to catch up with the characters that were at Jordan Tuttle’s party too.

To sum up the major parts of the book all happen at a party full of teens with crazy mixed up emotions and pre-fixed ideas about one another and a lot of alcohol and perhaps drugs too.
I did enjoy the book a lot and would certainly like to read more. I think this prequel novella makes a great introduction to what could be a potentially great series!

This is the prequel to the Just Friends series, and introduction to the characters, Olivia, Dustin, Emily, Canon, Amanda, and Tuttle. This is the night of Jordan Tuttle's party, the night before Olivia leaves for 6 weeks at her Dad's, and everyone is in attendance. This was well written, and a great introduction to the series, I look forward to reading further along in the Just Friends series.
