This book will take you on a roller coaster ride or an escape down the rabbit hole like the theme in Alice in Wonderland. I found myself questioning from the beginning the reality of the events as they didn't seem to be authentic or fit with what a therapist would be doing with her patients. One is a serial killer. I kept reading although, I had a clue thinking what would turn out to be. Holding on for the ride, the story evolved with lots of interesting characters, and their quirks or tales. This book is a different venture from this author's previous books. It is definitely an engaging page turner with a suspense driven plot with plenty suspicions and twists to the final pages to find out who is the serial killer.

Love it A LOT!!!
The book is AWESOME!!!! It lures you in from the start with just a few words and you find yourself addicted until the end! It has an air of mystery to it as you try and figure out what's really going on and who the killer is.. with each page you go deeper and deeper into the story and it becomes a race against time to find out who it really is!!! When the ending draws near and all is revealed you won't believe it... you are BLOWN AWAY!!!! I NEVER saw that ending coming!!! OMG!!!!
The author did a fantastic job for sure!
I love how the book was written.. it keeps your attention, it flows well, you get just enough detail and description without feeling bombarded by it! I really love all the different characters! They are very interesting for sure!
The book is VERY GOOD and you won't be able to put it down! You will find yourself wanting to read it again after just finishing!

This book wasn't for me. I was excited to receive a copy but I couldn't connect with the characters.

Pretty interesting book. I liked the story and the characters and all the twists. Even though it was easy guessing the ending and what would probably happen, it was still pretty good.

Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, it was thrilling and I loved the characters. The twist at the end was surprising. I will be reading more of Stenna Holme's books. Great writing.

Loved this book ! So interesting ! Great story line and plot ! I had a feeling what the ending might bring but I was not 100 % sure. Highly recommend this book. Part psychological thriller, part mystery, part suspense, and mostly how a tragedy can just totally ruin someone's life and what they are capable of doing to protect themselves. As with this author's other books, an excellent read. Time well spent on this gem.

This book was not for me. There have been several times where the use of multiple personalities or DID has been used in either a movie or a book I've consumed. Sometimes it works (the book, then movie, Fight Club) and sometimes it doesn't (the movie Identity and, unfortunately, this book). I don't mind the use of multiple personalities/DID as a twist or major plot point. What I don't like is when the entire book or movie was all a figment of someone's mental disorder. In Identity, we are left scrambling to find out what is happening to this group of main characters only to be told - ha, that whole movie? Didn't even happen! And that's exactly what happened here. Dr. Rycroft has three patients and any one of them could be a serial killer - who is it? Ha, that whole book? Didn't even happen! NO THANK YOU. The only good thing is that I saw this coming from the very beginning so it wasn't a complete surprise, although it probably swayed my thinking and had me suspicious and hoping the clues were wrong.

This was an ok book
It was obvious from very early in the book what the ending would be.
It was also so hard to connect with the characters also
A disappointment as I had expected more

I had a hard time staying with this book. I found it oddly written, with characters that didn’t connect, and rather banal conversations. I stayed with it because of a glowing review I read which told me the big super surprising, you’d never guess it reveal would make it so worth it. Hmmm. I had a feeling I knew where we were heading and yes, I was right. I really didn’t like this book. I am apparently in the minority, as there are a lot of 5 star reviews. I’m wondering if we read the same book. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

As a fan of Steena Holmes, I was excited to be able to read an advanced copy of The Patient. I so badly wanted to love this book, but I struggled getting through it. The beginning and the end were great, but in the middle, I lost interest and struggled with the characters. I didn’t like any of the characters and felt like I couldn’t emotionally connect to any of them. I will say that the ending was surprising, which is why I’m giving it a 3 star.

I love this author and find her books entertaining and emotionally interesting.

Dr. Danielle suspected one of her patients to be a serial killer when a string of murders rocked the town. Her best friend Detective Tami was her confidante of her fears.

Steena Holmes has written an swirling plot with an interesting arc which had me looking at everyone with a suspicious eye. The story was disjointed at some parts but soon pulled together making it a chilling read.

Absolutely different from the earlier works, the author shocked with the darker vibe happening in this book. The therapy sessions of her patients was different and quite intriguing.

This was surely one of my different, unexpected reads. Read it, stick with it, and enjoy it.

This book was a departure from the usual Steena Holmes book. This was a risk for her to take, but one I think more than succeeded. Small town counselor, troubled patients, and serial killer on the loose, taken together, make for a great premise. The added bonus of the town having an Alice in Wonderland theme makes for a wild and crazy ride. I did start to figure out who the killer might be, but then an additional twist left me reeling. Well done Steena Holmes! I can’t wait to see what she does next!

“The Patient” by Steen Holmes

What an incredible novel. This one will keep the reader at the end of their seat almost all way through this psychological thriller.

Steena Holmes does not disappoint with this novel, and every new book release is better than the one before.

Danielle is a psychologist who has three especially complicated clients that she has been seeing for years. Despite struggling with her own extreme stress levels, constant headaches and black outs, she continues work with them. One top of all this, there is a serial killer on the loose and she is convinced one of her clients is the killer. Question is who? Danielle begins seeing a counselor to work through all of her personal and professional issues. The insight she receives during these sessions is invaluable for both she and her therapist. Yet, they both come to different, yet similar, conclusions as to who the serial killer is.

The author has written a very enthralling novel that will keep your turning pages long after you should be asleep or making a meeting that you will miss.

While some may guess who the serial killer is, there is a bit of a twist that almost all readers will not see coming. A magnificent psychological thriller that anyone will enjoy and does not belong on a TBR list but but your next book list when the one you’re reading is finished.

With a very honest portrayal of families; dysfunction within the household and within ones self; abuse of alcohol, and mentally and physically toward others; criminal justice system; mental health issues and so much more. Steena Holmes brings alive every character and situation throughout the novel with flair of her words that makes everything relatable to the reader.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a great thriller. Danielle is a therapist trying to help three patients. She suddenly becomes suspicious that one of them could be a murderer. Then we realize Danielle has many secrets herself. Well written and very enjoyable.

It was an ok book for me. While the plot idea was very intriguing, the writing killed it for me. The characterization was another weak point with characters seemingly unrealistic and shallow.

Dr. Danielle Rycroft loves her job. She is s psychological therapist. She has recently moved to Cheshire, a town catering to the book, Alice iin Wonderland. This book just happens to be Danielle's favorite book. She collects books and items that have to do with Alice in Wonderland. Since she has moved to Cheshire things have been rather quiet. So far she has only three clients. Savannah a moody teenager, Tyler has paranoid delusions and avoidance issues. Ella, another client is also obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. She is very quiet, avoids eye contact and speaks very softly. Sometimes Dr. Wycroft has to read a few pages of the book, Alice in Wonderland to Ella just to settle her down so they can resume the session.
Danielle has made two very good friends in Cheshire Tami is a detective that works for the Cheshire Police Department. Sabrina, another of her friends runs a tea shop that has everything Alice in Wonderland.
Lately Tami has been extremely busy. There have been murders in town. The parents of children are being murdered.
Danielle starts seeing a therapist herself. She needs help. She truly believes one of her clients is the murderer. Right now she's not sure which one. Time is running out hopefully together they can help stop any more murders from happening.
A remarkable story, strong characters. A punch of an ending! Excellent!!
