This book is great for reluctant readers, but I personally don't think it's Nic Stone's best story. Rico can come off as whiny and the love interest was that typical "absolutely perfect in every way" except he had a savior complex and didn't have Rico's best interest at heart.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the juxtaposition of the two characters, one poor and black, the other white and from a wealthy family. But then I liked how Nic Stone showed how even these characters who seem very disparate in their experiences could feel similarly about their futures.

Very cute book that I couldn't put down. Interesting premise of if people can make a relationship work if they are from two different social economic backgrounds. I liked that we get a brief glimpse of what Rico's life could have been through Jess and Ness. I liked how the romance was a big part of the story but did not really determine all of Rico's choices.

Rico is strong, resilient, stubborn, a great big sister, and a better daughter than she thinks she is. She’s proud. And doesn’t really know how, or when, to ask for help. Zan, Ness, and Jess aren’t what they would seem to be., and confuse and surprise Rico. A “quest” brings Rico and Zan together. But Rico’s pride might ultimately stand in her, and their, way.

I enjoyed this book. However, the digital galley I received was very difficult to read. It has missing words and phrases, and the "not for distribution" message on every page changed the font size of random words and very much distracted from the book. I know this isn't a plot/story issue, but it was very unpleasant. If I wasn't such a fan of this author I would have given up at the beginning.
