This was a wonderfully sweet and clever graphic novel and a perfect example of how to impart values of love and acceptance in YA without getting preachy or sounding forced.

I loved that almost the entire cast of this graphic novel was female, and that they were all just so utterly themselves. The story, while largely character driven, also has a fun plot and a clever magical system.

And I LOVED the art...it was both traditional/classic and unique/original at the same time.

My only regret?

This is a perfect fall/Halloween read, and I just read it in July. Oh well, guess I’ll just have to read it again in October!

The best way I can think to describe Mooncakes is that it feels like coming home: from the magical setting and the tender tale of two people reuniting and rekindling their relationship after time apart to the warm, gorgeous style and use of colour that brings all the elements of the story together. An absolutely wonderful read that I'll certainly be returning to many times in the future.

This was a fantastic and adorable story. I loved every single moment of it. The characters were just perfect, the story line was fun to follow and the artwork was beautiful. I really enjoyed how diverse this book was as well. It was really interesting to see this world unfold and learn more and more things about it.

This was the cutest story I've read all year. I really enjoyed the bright colorful art style and overall vibe of the story. It was nice to see multiple LGBT+ characters and relationships represented on page. The story is fun and fast paced. It is something you can easily read in one sitting like I did!

The paranormal elements were really fun and I enjoyed the mix of werewolves and witches. The two main characters have a lovely relationship and there were a lot of great themes of family and friendship. I would love to read move adventures of Nova and Tam!

Mooncakes is such a sweet story. I love how inclusive it is, I love the witchiness of it, I love the art style. Everything about this graphic novel is wonderful. It's the story of a hearing impaired witch trying to help her non binary, part werewolf love interest defeat a demon. There is a lot of family drama mixed in as well, which is a great addition.

Mooncakes is a paranormal graphic novel following two Chinese-American childhood best friends, Tam Lang, a genderqueer werewolf, and Nova Huang, a hard-of-hearing queer witch, as they reconnect, fall in love, and solve a mystery involving a demon.

It's a cute and fun read, if really predictable; I especially appreciated how this wasn't only a story about a romance, but also about the importance of a supportive family, blood or found. Another thing I really liked were the small references to YA books, especially Asian-American YA books - I recognized The Astonishing Color of After, Forest of a Thousand Lanterns, Warcross and The Girl King, but there could have been others. It's so refreshing to see references to things I have actually read and that aren't necessary to understand the dialogue (which is my problem with many dialogues in contemporary American novels).

The art style wasn't my favorite - it's not the graphic novel, it's me - but I really liked the color scheme and the atmosphere; I think it's the perfect light fall read.

I loved this. It was sweet and queer. It had witches and werewolves and a "save the town" mission. It had same sex relationships and awesome use of they/them/they're pronouns. It spoke to the strength of family and friend relationships. This was just overall well rounded and plain fun. I think I have a lot of teen readers who are going to be super interested in this fall in New England tale when it drops in October.
