This was a heartbreaker. Solid writing, a little bit more angst-y than I prefer, likable and relatable characters, strong family interactions. For anyone who’s struggled with starting a family and navigating all the social aspects of that - you’ll find some friends in this book.

Not My Daughter is a good, quick read. Definitely not a light story, but an important one, I think. The book centers around two best friends, Milly and Anna. It starts when Milly and her husband are having a hard time conceiving a child on their own due to Milly being in premature menopause. Anna offers her eggs so that Milly can carry her own child. Matt's brother Jack also offers his help to help them conceive, and soon a baby is made. When Alice is born, Milly has some intense baby blues and for the first few weeks wants nothing to do with the baby. She's soon put on medication and is ready to step up and be the mother Alice needs - only to find out that Anna has contacted a lawyer to see about getting custody of Alice. This understandably causes a huge rift which would have gone unmended, except years later something tragic happens and the doors between Milly and Anna open once again.

I enjoyed this book. While it was very serious and dealt with some heavy stuff, I was able to finish it in 2 hours. I really liked the characters. They were very realistically portrayed and easy to picture as the story was being told. The part with the Velveteen Rabbit made me tear up. All in all a very well written book, and I can't wait to read more by this author!

Wow, I was not expecting this book to be so emotionally driven! This is the first book I’ve read by Kate Hewitt, and I am more than impressed.

Milly and Anna have a friendship so strong, they’re willing to do anything for one another...and Anna does just that for Milly. When Milly learns that she can’t have children of her own, Anna gives her the gift of motherhood, along with Molly’s brother-in-law Jack.

But being a mother isn’t at all what Milly has expected and what happens when Alice is born nearly destroys a friendship. To make matters worse, at just four-years-old, Alice is given a diagnosis that no one saw coming and is heartbreaking for everyone.

By the end of this book I was in tears! So much love and so much heartache all because one woman dreamed of being a mother. And while the outcome was no one’s fault, I can imagine why many of the characters wanted to blame themselves for what happened.

In the end, I really enjoyed this book and I loved how it all came together, no matter much it hurt to read. I’ll definitely be adding kore of Kate Hewitt’s book to my TBR list!

This book was absolutely heart-wrenching page turner. The author digs deep into a subject that is common, yet rarely talked about, infertility.

Milly will do anything to have a baby of her own. Her best friend Anna offers to be an egg donor. The book goes through all the emotions of IVF, post partum depression, love and the ultimate test of friendships.

I could not put this down. I absolutely recommend this book. This is my first book by the author. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Hewitt.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
