In general, I avoid books with the war theme, because I don't like it much. But there are a few that I'm glad I read them. Still come home is one of those books.

The story is told through three characters: a young Palestinian girl, an American soldier and a Palestinian worker. At the same time, in the same war, everyone's story is different and unique. Their story is their point of view of the war and life, but also love and marriage.

I liked the story as a whole and the intertwining of stories of three people. I must admit that parts written from Aaseya's point of view were for me by far the best.

One thing I found a bit distracting was that there were too many abbreviations and words I didn't know, and I had to look them up.

This is a story about war and how it affects different people told through the lens of 3 people in the same war, not all are fighting the war but all are affected by the war. It was a short, quick read that left me thinking about it long after I finished it. Even though one country may "win" the war everyone loses, some more than others. While it was a good story, it was a sad and depressing story, but it needed to be told.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This novel weaves the stories of two groups of people who are struggling to survive during wartime in the middle east -- American soldiers and a family reeling from experiences with the Taliban. Interesting and thought provoking novel.

I'm reviewing ON publishing date - this might be a first!

I love a modern war book - I'm not quite sure why, but it is a genre that really appeals. Maybe it's because of the complexity, where soldiers are expecting to 'win hearts and minds" while people are trying to kill them. Katey Schultz captures this duality well, as well as acknowledging, and writing from the point of view of non-military characters.

This book isn't about the action (although there is some) it's about the characters, and their internal conflicts. The characters and the book are nuanced, considered and interesting.

This book was both satisfying and left me wanting more - I would have loved to have more of Aaseya's story, and yet by not over explaining the book is even more powerful.

Thanks NetGalley and Apprentice House Press for the e-Arc in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book in parts but felt it went on a bit. There was too much narrative and not enough conversations between characters. It gave a very real account of the Afghanistan situation which was pretty grim. I also felt it jumped back and forth too much for me.

Still Come Here is a strong and developed reading experience. I would gladly use it as a mentor text for descriptive writing and development of characters.

Kudos to author Kathy Schultz for creating a fine literary experience.
