I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There's nothing I liked about this book and eventually the one word being lower case in a title drove me crazy.

I was very excited to get this book thinking it was going to talk about being naughty and what happens. Which it did a little then The chair flys away. The pictures in this book scared all of the girls and they did not understand the story at all. Sorry but this gets 1 star from me.

One morning Robert and his sister Lucy are gobbling up their breakfast in a contest to see who will be first to empty their bowl. Lucy wins and Robert decides to get revenge by playing a silly prank on her which causes a huge morning catastrophe!

When Mum comes into the kitchen she is not amused at what greets her. Immediately she sends Robert to the naughty chair for a 15 minute time out. Then... Robert is not amused but understands that what he has done is wrong and drags himself to the waiting wooden naughty chair.

"I wish I could get rid of this naughty chair," he thought.
"It is really boring sitting here."

Suddenly the chair starts moving from side to side and lifts into the air. Robert and his dog Waggles hold on tightly as they zoom through the air. Where on earth is the monster chair heading? It seems to have a mind of its own and a pre-planned destination where it wants to dump its riders. Oh my!

The entire family learns a very valuable lesson that day. It is time for the naughty chair to have a time-out... a permanent time out!

The author points out to readers that there are consequences for your actions. Robert learns that his unacceptable behaviour can disrupt and hurt others and in return he must think about what he does and how he can correct his bad behaviour.

The illustrations are well done and full of expression and action. The ending of the book is open-ended leaving room for discussion and a feeling of suspense.... mmmmm.....what if?

I read this book to my two grandchildren, who really enjoyed listening to it. A good story with really nice illustrations.

Very rarely do I not get a children"s book and what is trying to be said. I have to say that this book is totally confusing to me, so i am sure it would be to a child. Robert gets mad at his sister and ties her shoes together. She falls and Mom puts him into time on on the naughty chair. The boy gets bored on the chair and wishes it would go away. Then the chair flies away. I don't get what the storyline is and message. The boy did something wrong and should have a time out. This just gives children the idea they can wish it away and not have to take responsibility for it.

This story moral was confusing and I think a kid would not get it, I don’t even think I fully understood it. I don’t know if the author was trying to be funny or if they are trying to say punishment for bad behavior is doing chores and time outs are not ok. Not a story I would ready to my children.

I liked the idea behind this book that a naughty chair isn't always needed but there was something missing for me which made the story a little lacking. The images were ok but I would have preferred them to be a bit brighter as my daughter didn't really take to them. 3 stars from me, good idea but can't see it being read more than once

Title: The naughty Naughty Chair
Author: Connie Jessop

One would imagine just about every child who has been in time out has wished to be released from the "naughty chair." The absolute longing for escape! Robert's naughty chair takes off,
only to then dump him and his dog in the pond. As my son said, "That wasn't nice."

My son and I read this book together. He is a beginning reader and he enjoyed it. All opinions are those of myself and my son. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

After a boy gets bored at the breakfast table (and a little tired of his sister's harassment), he ties her shoelaces together and gets sent to the naughty chair for a time out. What happens when the naughty chair is naughty and flies away, though? Jessop's story is cute but doesn't have the re-readability that I look for in a picture book. It would have made a great story collection though if we had heard stories of the naughty chair's travels. In the end, it seemed like they were trying to show a new take on The Phantom Tollbooth but fell short. This one just didn't work for me.

A flying chair doesn't really help with trying to discipline a child. Some kids would be afraid if they had such a chair that it might take off with them, too of course, others would see that the book was just silly.. Not my cup of tea at all.

I would not read this book to my kids. Did not like the use of the word "Darn" in a book for a small child. True, not technically a curse word, but totally unnecesssary in a book for little ones.

Thank you to Net Galley and he publisher for the ARC for an hones review.

What child hasn’t wished, while sitting in the naughty chair in timeout, for an opportunity to escape.
Robert gets his chance when his naughty chair takes off, only to dump him and his dog in the pond. Be careful what you wish for!

This book, with its delightful watercolor illustrations, will keep a young child mesmerized while
a parent or grandparent reads aloud. The writing as well as the pictures are humorous and entertaining. This book is a good choice for a preschooler or beginning reader.

Well that was one naughty chair. The story showed that even though main character thought his prank was funny, he was reprimanded for his behavior, to show that it was not acceptable. When he exclaims that he does not like the naughty chair it comes to life and if fact starts to act naughty. It was far fetched but it taught the kid a lesson about what his sister felt when he pranked her. It showed a lesson that actions can hurt others and may in turn hurt you.

Although it is a children's book I cant really recommend this for a class library, the drawings of the chair with eyes can freak out a child and I don't think the moral of the story is made clear about bad behaviour and time out.
Could be a good book but needs more polishing up,such as the pictures in the book, and being more clear for children as I found it a bit confusing.

Well here was a book that had only okay reviews.
I read it with an open mind and as ready to embrace an new author and a clever variation on discipline.
It starts with a typical sibling rivalry which the parent does not fully oversee or managed well.
When the naughty brother is banish to the naughty chair being taught a lesson takes on a new meaning.
The illustrations are perhaps over drawn. I prefer when the pictures promote further scope to be talked about when reading a story.
The bottom line is that this tale does not hold together it blurs to concept of being naughty. For me the moral or lesson is lost and the aim of the message confusing for me let alone a child.

I thought there was going to be a moral of some sort in this story, being a children's book. I do believe after the naughty chair did it's naughty thing, that maybe some kids might now be afraid of getting the naughty chair as a punishment and maybe this is what the book was hoping to achieve.

The illustrations in the book are okay although the chair with eyes is a bit freaky and the drawn children do look a lot older than kids.

It's an okay story but not one that I would pick for my children.

There are some strange picture books out there.

This is the story of a naughty boy named Robert who isn't so much "bold" as "bratty". After tying his sister's shoelaces together, he's sent to sit on the naughty chair for 15 minutes. He wishes he could get rid of said naughty chair. All of a sudden, it starts rising into the air. Then it flies out the door! For some reason, Robert thinks he's getting his wish (even though he's going with the flying chair). It dumps him (and the blameless dog) in the pond and flies off into the sunset. Mum decides there will be no more naughty chairs in the house (convenient, considering it just flew away), and she has to come up with other punishments for her kids.

There is controversy over whether time-out punishment is more helpful than harmful. This book doesn't really address that (although, if the chair dumps your kid in a pond, I'd lean toward "harmful"). I'm afraid that, as opinions about child discipline change, this book will seem like a dated relic. I can't quite tell if the book is advocating for or against naughty chairs; after all, most run-of-the-mill chairs don't have a mind of their own and potentially lethal designs on your kids. Still, if the chair hadn't dumped Robert in the pond, would Mum still have used that form of discipline? Probably.

I'm struggling to find something to like here. I guess the pictures aren't too bad, although the sentient chair with the creepy moving eyes is just plain odd. I think I would've rather read an origin story about the chair, rather than a mundane story about a boy who does a stereotypically naughty thing. I mean, who wouldn't want to know where an intelligent chair came from? Who built it? Why? Has it had other owners? Are they still alive (or have they all drowned)? How can it fly? Where does it go after it dumps children in bodies of water? Inquiring minds want to know.

There are probably some children who will get a giggle out of this, but unless they're familiar with the concept of a naughty chair, they might need someone to explain it to them. I'm afraid I didn't really enjoy this book. Maybe I'm just not a fan of anthropomorphized furniture.

While I liked the style of drawing this story wasn’t for me.

I found the story difficult to follow in the beginning. I also found the children drawn looked far older than children. I was having a hard time picturing them as kids, it was like childish teenagers.

Cool concept but it just didn’t work in my mind.
