Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance eArc. The book is written in the form of diary submissions so you really get into the characters heads. Sophie has it all, loving husband, amazing house but still wants more. She has an alcohol dependency which gets her into a situation that she could control if she would just stop drinking for a minute. She ends up waking up with bruises after a night out with no recollection of what happened. And has an affair with Michael a younger man she had met at a club that night. She starts getting phone calls and letters from someone that is trying to shatter her pefect life. She doesn't know who she can trust.

This was a quick and enjoyable read that kept luring me back to find out what was going to happen next.

Sophie is married to an older man, Richard, who was educated and refined. While Sophie loved her husband she yearned for more but what she got when she sought it was more than she could handle.

Sophie was perpetually drunk having taken up drinking after failed pregnancies that left her heartbroken.

The story reads as diary entries that you follow as Sophie's life unfolds in a series of drunken escapades that lead her into more and more dire circumstances.

This book was very well written. Nice and easy to read and flowed well. Had me on the edge of my seat. Wondering which way it was going to go. Great mystery can’t beat it.

Sophie Knight seems to have it all. A great career in accounting, a wealthy husband named Richard, and a nice apartment. Yet, she isn’t happy. She is a chain-smoking alcoholic. When she decides to go out with her friend Sylvie they meet a group of young men. The next day Sophie wakes up unaware of the events that transpired the night before. She is covered in bruises, and her dress is torn and soiled.
In a search for answers, she develops a relationship with one of the young men, Michael. He is gorgeous, conceited, and apparently just what she needs. In the midst of their relationship, she begins feeling as if she is being followed. She begins receiving notes, strange phone calls, and other threatening occurrences are happening. Her relationship with Michael becomes more than she bargains for, but the aftermath is so much worse.
This story is told in diary form, from the perspective of Sophie. This was an interesting read, however, I think the diary form of storytelling limited the development of the story. There also were some errors that I wouldn’t expect from a published (May 2019) story. I would rate it with three stars.
I was given an electronic copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. It has in no way impacted my opinion.

In her Words by J.S Ellis.
While she seems to have it all, Sophie Knight is looking for more. When gorgeous and carefree Michael Frisk walks into her life, he offers the excitement and passion she desires.
Sophie is willing to risk everything she has. After all, she is used to concealing things from her husband—like her alcoholism, her unhappiness. But soon she has more to hide. She wakes up one morning in an alcoholic haze and finds bruises on her body, but has no recollection of what happened to her. Was she raped?
When unsettling notes and mysterious phone calls start, Sophie wonders whom she should turn to. Is Michael the cause of the frightening things happening in her life, or is he the answer to her problems?
A good read. Different as it didn't have chapters. Little slow but I read it. 3*.

I wasn’t bored while reading this book and it kept me engaged, but the main characters were thoroughly distasteful. Their character and behaviour made it difficult to care what happened to them.

Sophie has a drinking problem that she manages to hide from her husband and everyone around her. But when she meets the handsome young Michael, she's lured in by his beauty and his magnetism. Is it worth sabotaging her marriage for a fling with a stranger? Paranoia sets in when she begins receiving strange notes and phone calls and of course she wonders if it is Michael behind it or does her husband somehow know? Lots of twists and turns in this one, dark themes and unlikable flawed characters but a great story nonetheless!

This was an interesting book right from the start because of the style of writing. It is written is diary format. I wasn’t a fan of it at first but as the story progresses, I began to enjoy it more. Sophie has a drinking problem she’s hiding from her husband and goes out one night with her friend. What happens that night is a mystery to Sophie herself as she doesn’t remember anything and wakes up with mysterious bruises. As she tries to get answers as to what happened, things get worse and she questions who she can trust. This book had some predictable twists but I still enjoyed it!

This is a very dark and twisty mystery about a older married woman who has an affair with a younger man. I enjoyed the story and it did keep me guessing, the only problem I had was keeping track of all the characters involved in the night in question.

It doesn’t seem right to read this book as an ARC because it reads like it was self published raw without any professional editing. The premise is interesting, but the narrative flow is chunky and the characters a bit flat. I’d be open to read it in published form to see if that makes a difference.

In Her Words is written in the style of diary entries by Sophie Knight. On the surface, Sophie appears to be happily married to the older Richard. Both with successful careers, they enjoy the finer things in life. Sophie has a drinking problem and after a night out, her life begins to spiral out of control. She awakes to find herself covered in bruises and can’t remember what happened. She sets out to discover the truth but quickly finds herself drinking more and getting involved with a younger man.
I thought the ending was very good , but found the rest repetitive and slow going. It’s a well written book and I’d recommend if you enjoy women’s fiction with a touch of crime thriller.

Aw this book had so much potential and I was enjoying it up to a point. Then the author literally stole a few scenes from Sex and the City. I couldn’t read anymore. It made me cringe.

Sophie has it all: money, handsome husband, nice home, good job - yet she is miserable. Her husband, Richard, is 50 years old, an insurance executive who has had a major heart attack 2 years ago. They have been married 11 years - she was 25, then. No children but two miscarriages.

Sophie is drawn to saxophone music from a club, nearby. Her husband, has just returned from a work trip to find Sophie hungover and sick. Last night she and Sylvie (her best friend) went to the club where the sax music came from. Sophie is an alcoholic. Her work as an accountant has been suffering for a while. She starts an affair with the sax player, Michael. - he is 21 years old (to her 37). Passionate, yet stormy, the affair breaks up and restarts. Even Michael realizes that Sophie is an alcoholic - it didn't take long...

But is Sophie willing to risk everything just to take a chance with Michael?
Will she be able to cut out her drinking?
Who is sending her warning notes? (presumably about Michael)
Who tried to break into her home?
Why are Michael's friends across the street at times - just standing there?

There is a lot of suspense at every corner and many questions that unearth during this quick, super read!

Recommend !

Many Thanks to The black Cat Ink Press and NetGalley for a wonderful read!
