This book is pretty niche...but for someone like me who firmly fits into that foodie tattoo-lover niche it was a total joy! Beautiful shots of food and tattoos, biographies of some really interesting people and some new recipes to try. On a practical note, the recipes seem well laid out, with good instructions and I'm excited to try some. And from a reading perspective, I really enjoyed the laid-back tone of this book, which totally suits the subject matter(s)! What an interesting find.

If you're looking for a unique book concept look no further. The quality and variety of both the photographs and the recipes make this a great gift idea for the chef and/or tattoo enthusiast in your life.

Lovely photography, interesting recipes. The mini bios are interesting as well. I think this book is somewhat niche & may not have widespread appeal.

Knives and Needles: Tattoo Artists in the Kitchen is an interesting cross section of tattoo artists (mostly from the west coast of the USA) who are foodies and photographic gallery of their ink and a carefully curated selection of recipes. Released 28th Oct 2019 by Schiffer, it's 224 pages and available in hardcover format.

This is an extremely eclectic collection of recipes. The first one in the book is for a homemade pipe made from an apple. The contributor recommends acquiring some "grade A pot" and then cooking and enjoying the recipes from the rest of the book. The recipes are a mixed lot. There's a definite west coast USA and Mexican/Hispanic/Asian fusion vibe to a lot of them. There are a few vegan/gluten/sugar free recipes. Nearly all of them are simple enough for the average home cook to replicate and most of the ingredients are easily sourced and familiar.

Each of the featured artists has a short bio and a few action cooking shots as well as full color photos of their tattoos and some piercings. The photos are colorful and the tattoos are incredibly detailed and well done (in varied styles). The full body tattoos are tastefully semi-nude. Each of the recipes include a sidebar with a bullet list of ingredients. Measurements are given in US standard. They also include step by step instructions; some (not all) include yields. There's a table of contents, but no index.

This is an interesting intersection of two of my favorite obsessions: body art and cooking. This would make a great gift for a tattoo or cooking interested reader. It's definitely worthy of the 'coffee table' book category.

Four stars.

Tattoos and food?! Two of my favorite things all in one book! I love it! The tattoos are absolutely gorgeous and they give you a biography of each of the chefs. Also included is the recipe they make. I highly recommend this book if you're a foodie that loves tattoos!

I adored this concept and enjoyed reading about the artists. The bad point for me was a lot of the recipe ingredients I am allergic to or can not find in the small town I live it. As I said great concept. Just not for me.

I really enjoyed the way this book was set up, with all the wonderful photography of the art. I liked that the art was mixed in with the photography of the food. The recipes were clear and well written. This is a unique cookbook that would recommend any food lover to try.

This is one of the most unique cookbooks I have ever read. The format is as advertised. It is an interspersing of the arts with an introduction to a tattoo artist followed by one of their chosen recipes. As someone who is not immersed in the world of tattoo art I loved reading and getting to know the varying artists highlighted in the book. Each "bio" is unique and a fun surprise as are their chosen recipes. This is the perfect utility book in my opinion. It involves storytelling, beautiful photography and recipes you can actually make. I already have three people in mind that I will be buying this book for them!

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

Looking for an interesting book for your coffee table? Look no further, this artsy recipe/ tattoo handler book has taken a dive into two different categories in order to bring you a diverse creation.

What did I like? The recipes were a mix of hard to ridiculously easy, and each tattoo artist gives you a slightly talented dish from their kitchen.

Would I buy it? For the tattoo illustration alone, most of the recipes looked hard, but I have no problems staring at naked tattooed bodies.

Thoughts for the author? It was a cute idea, and a unique gift idea for people with tattoos that love to cook. Thanks for the copy, enjoyed the art.

Never judge a book by it’s cover or, a person by their tattoo’s
This is a very interesting book and dispels the myth that only a certain type of person has a tattoo!
The tattoo’s are beautiful works of art just on a body not a canvas. There are some fantastic example here. I found the people interesting and the recipes simple to follow. They are normal people so, some eat more healthily than others so it has a good mix,. A lot of avocado recipes which is great as it’s my favourite for lunch and I now have so different variations to try.
I would recommend this book to anyone working with teenagers and young adults as a starting point for many discussions about preconceptions.
