Your not-so-typical story of a genie but with a refreshing twist. Harper takes the old genie-in-a-lamp trope and turns it on its head. Hazel, isn’t your average wish-granting entity. She’s got sass, she’s got flair, and she’s in a bit of trouble.

The story kicks off with Hazel trying to keep a low profile – not easy when you’re a djinn with a past. The plot thickens when she crosses paths with some less-than-friendly types from the supernatural world. There’s action, a bit of mystery, and, of course, some magical mayhem.

One of the cool things about this book is Harper’s world-building. It’s vivid without being overwhelming – a good mix for those of us who've seen our share of fantastical universes. The supernatural elements are woven into the story in a way that feels fresh yet familiar.

Hazel as a character is a win for me. She’s got depth, humor, and a knack for getting into trouble. Her journey is a mix of self-discovery and navigating the tricky world of magical politics. And let’s not forget the supporting cast – they add spice and humor to the story, making the whole thing a lively read.

This was a really fun read - well written and engaging. I don't normally read this genre of book, but I thought I'd give it a go. It was very enjoyable - pure escapism and I would recommend it if you're looking for something lighthearted and quirky. I will enjoy reading more in the series in future.

I had no idea how much I would enjoy this book. Sadly the cover had put me off for a while thinking it would be quite childish but once i started reading I couldn't stop. The heroine is fun and feisty without being a back-stabbing snide mean girl. She is well-rounded and hilarious and the Devil's Advocate is brilliant.
I love the world building and the hierarchy of the Faerie careers. I'm just sorry it took me so long to get around to reading.

Saffron Sawyer aspires to rise from the magical world’s bottom rung. But when her wish to join the renowned Office of Faery Godmothers is granted, bullies make her first day on the job unbearable. And to add to her misery, she discovers that someone is abducting her coworkers one-by-one. Desperate to prevent another kidnapping, she scrambles to piece together the clues. After teaming up with the handsome and powerful Devil’s Advocate, she uncovers a strange connection between the disappearances and her lowly former gig. But when Saffron learns her promotion was only a ploy, she vows to ruin the devious plan. Can Saffron muster enough magic to trap the villain before she’s sacked or stolen?
So, I wasn’t really sure what to expect with this one. The title kind of says it all. It’s a quirky story about a quirky godmother. I happen to like quirky so it really had my attention. I really liked Saffron and I liked following her through her mission in this story. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Ok. I'm in between on this read. It was funny and definitely creative!!! The fairy saffron she is a dope fairy yes like in drugs!! She makes the humans under her care have good highs and tries to get them to go to treatment and not kill themselves basically!!! But saffron what's more. She gets her wish which turns out not so great except for the devil she meets without knowing who he is. Now here is my problem the book moves way to fast from one thing to another and it leaves me wanting more from my characters. A fun read to waste some time or if want something you don't have to really get into.

Fun and Quirky. I loved our gutsy heroine Saffron, who seemed to dive into things head first. The story was engaging. It was fast paced and fun. All in all, I enjoyed the book and I look forward to more in the series. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments and it was a fresh take in the genre.

Saffron may be the best drug faery ever, creating hallucinations to guide addicts back to sobriety or at least sanity, but her own ambition is to join the august company of faery godmothers. The most wonderful job she can imagine is to grant the dearest wish of her human client. When she at last receives a coveted invitation to join that elite organization, she is thrilled . . . until she discovers that faery godmothers are going missing and she is to be the bait for the kidnapper. Her welcome is anything but warm as the other godmothers, male and female alike, ignore, spurn, or attack her. To make matters worse, the darkly sinister and intimidating Devil’s Advocate arrives to investigate the situation.

Saffron’s personality shines through the story. She’s warm and funny and earthy, and compassionate in a way few other faeries are. The story achieves a nice balance between dramatic tension, action, and quieter but no less fascinating events. The magic is innovative, the setting (London) a quixotic blend of mundane and otherworldly, and all the characters grow and change. I especially love stories in which both the protagonist and her adversaries reveal hidden depths, becoming more complex and appealing (or revolting, as the case may be). Needless to say, I’m looking forward to the next adventures of Saffron and her friends.

Wishful Thinking is the first in a new series and it’s an entertaining enchanting well written read with an interesting story and characters. I would definitely read the work of this author again.

I liked the book, its plot and humor at times. I just wish the storyline was more developed in detail. This book fell for me like YA book more. I still loved it even it felt like I am reading just a paranormal book for young adults.

When I saw the title of this book series, I thought "You know what? This might be fun to read!", so I requested an ARC via Netgalley and was granted an early copy. Unfortunately, I didn't get to it before its publication date but no matter, I finally read it and can talk about it.

Wishful thinking follows a dope faery who has always wanted to be a godmother faery in order to grant wishes to people. It's the most elite type of faeries and she never had a chance to become one until one day, she's interviewed and hired as the new godmother. However, she's not hired because of her talents or skills. In fact, she's hired as bait but no one tells her that at the beginning. Five godmothers have been kidnapped and therefore, Saffron (the sassy FMC) tries to figure out the mystery.

I usually find urban fantasy books quick and addictive, and overall, I enjoyed this one. However, I can't say I'm hooked and want to read the next one in the series even though I wish I did. This book fell a little flat for me. It's a middle of the road kind of book for me.

(Thank you so much for letting me read and review an ARC via Netgalley)

I read this author on my friends recommendation, and found it to be funny, with some mystery and romance to add to the supernatural. I will definitely be reading more.

I honestly loved this book. So many times I find myself leery about starting yet another PNR series, but this one was easy to fall in love with. Great Plot. Lovable characters. Heart-pounding action. Just great. Can't wait to read more from this series!

The premise of this sounded good and it could have had some potential if it werent for the terrible writing. This story was just all over the place, there was no character development, and the description doesnt point out what this fairy was originally but shes a dope fairy. Yeah, thats right dope fairy she and her apprentices get humans high and makes them see some messed up stuff. Granted that stuff happened in the beginning of this book but that beginning was enough to make this book hard to get through. This wasnt my cup of tea at all. 2⭐

This book is so funny and irreverent, I adore it. Helen Harper's world of faeries is so awesome, and it's so cool how there are all these different sorts of faeries. It reminded me a little bit of the set up for Tinker Bell and the Disney Fairies books, how there are tinker fairies and light fairies and water fairies... They're all fairies but have different jobs they do, just like in this series by Helen Harper. Though I don't think Disney has Dope Fairies... :)

Saffron is spunky and sassy and hard working AF, and I want to be her best friend. There are several side characters in this book that I also really enjoyed - some of them are TRULY hilarious. I love that there's a little romantic friction between Saffron and the Devil's Advocate, Jasper. As someone who is primarily a romance reader, I am totally down for some well-done romantic subplot! I love that this urban fantasy has a little romance, a little mystery, and a LOT of faery fun.

This is the first book in the very long winded series How To Be The Best Damn Faery Godmother In The World Or Die Trying, and it can be read as a stand alone since the main plot is "solved" within this first book. It also opens up a larger story arc that I assume will continue throughout the series, and I can't wait to read the next book, Wish List.

This book blew my socks off! There was just the perfect combination of cursing, magic, sexual chemistry, and relatable workplace characters that I couldn’t put this book down. As the start to a series, you’ve got me ready for book 2 (and 3 and 4… you get the hint)!

Saffron Sawyer is not in the most glamourous job when we first meet her, but she is doing her best for her clients. As a dope fairy, she guides them on a journey of sorts, but ultimately the choices are up to them. Her ambition has always been to become a fairy godmother, but the position is coveted and the wait list is long. There is also a bit of a class system in the fairy world, leading the same families to have several generations of fairy godmothers, not leaving room for newcomers. All of that changes on the day her boss informs her of a surprise interview to become one of them! It seems her dream has come true, but, as with most jobs, it’s nothing like she expected.

The fairy godmother workplace is filled with anxiety over some missing employees, leading to them being overworked, suspicious of everyone, and not exactly welcoming to poor Saffron. She manages to make the best of it, though, focusing on her clients, but also getting drawn into the mystery of who is making fairy godmothers disappear. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that she ends up in close quarters with an attractive Devil’s Advocate. All of the twists and turns had me eagerly (digitally) flipping pages only to be surprised by how it all ends. I loved the characters, and most of all this world! I can’t wait to read more and get to know them all even more!

I can't say that WISHFUL THINKING was an indepth, all encompassing story, but it was fun, fast paced, and had some mystery woven in.

I enjoyed getting to know Saffron. She's smart, a bit quirky, and has a strong sense of loyalty to others, even towards those that want to see her fail.

There isn't any romance in WISHFUL THINKING, but there is the start of a romance and I enjoyed witnessing the connection and partnership between Saffron and her love interest.

I was entertained with WISHFUL THINKING and will keep an eye out for future books.

I gave it 3.5/5 stars

I have been waiting so much for Knox's book - we know him from previous books and I loved his moments in them.
Knox's love story is heartbreaking, as he knows his loved one from his teens, which means it was some kind of second chance romance!
Adriana is a fierce woman that can be strong, but also has a soft side, but is it for real?
I LOVED their interactions and how they cooperate in this book. The tension was palpable and strong. Chemistry and everything as well as the case will be high and intriguing - kept my attention all the time.
