I love the author's previous work, but this was a little dry for me. I appreciated the mythology woven throughout, but I just didn't connect with the material. Maybe I'm just not a Unicorn girl.

I honestly had a hard time reading this book. While I still remain a fan of the author (her previous work helped to get me through some tough scrapes) I found the writing to be a bit dry. While her inclusion of myth and lore was wonderful, i feel like the way it was written took away from the wonder and excitement that Unicorns truly inspire.

Over all I'd recommend this to someone who is looking for a touch of magic that can deal with a bit of dry writing.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of Tess Whitehursts' latest book, Unicorn Magic. I am a huge fan and have been since I began reading other books by the same author starting with Magical Housekeeping. Tess has the ability to help us connect with our inner child, you know, the one who liked to have fun, daydream and believed in magic before some of the world told us not to? She does it remarkedly well in Unicorn Magic. Do I believe in mythological creatures with spiked horns running around the countryside? No. Do I believe in the magic of daydreams, the power in thoughts and a wonder filled life? Absolutely! Many thanks Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd. and Netgally for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, so I will admit that when I first got this book, before I even started reading it, I was afraid this was for the much younger crowd. But, after reading the book, I found that Mx. Whitehurst wrote it for 7th grade and above.

Mx. Whitehurst has written a lovely book for those of us who see the Unicorn as Magickal, Divine, or Inspirational. I have been a lover of Unicorns and their playfulness (they belong in the fae realm after all) since I was a child. I carry the spirit of the Unicorn on my person in the form of an ornate Unicorn skull tattoo. And this book goes along with my magickal practice.

There are 11 chapters in this book. Each chapter titled with a quality that is part and parcel of the Unicorn and their DNA. Mx. Whitehurst further breaks down each section into subtitles that take you, the reader, and hopefully Unicorn lover, deeper into the meaning of each chapter.

The Unicorn Portal Keys are beautifully written and fun meditations for you to use to connect with the Unicorn and meet your Unicorn guides. Each key described as a key on the astral plane that opens up an area for you to return to when you need more guidance on your journey to walking the path of a Unicorn ally and magic-user.

The author gives exercises and meditation in the form of 6 lessons for each chapter. This part is titled; Living and Breathing. Some are simple writing exercises, or maybe creating some art. But you can do 3 of them, or she asks you to do 6.

I did have to laugh at one point in chapter 6 when Mx. Whitehurst wrote about the Unicorn Portal Key. She described it as a 5-pointed star surrounded by a circle and said it was the symbol of nature and magical power. I realize she didn’t want to use the traditional name for this kind of magic, but I did find it helpful to see it described in that way.

The initiation ritual is brief, but I can see how it would be very transformative for someone who is doing this kind of work for the first time. I do like that the author did keep that brief, but still detailed.

The only thing that I did have a tiny grievance on is the Herbal part of Chapter 7. Mx. Whitehurst writes about the affinity that Unicorns have with crystals, trees, animal and herbs. The only grievance I have is that she didn’t use any Latin names for the plants. Mx. Whitehurst talks about Mint and names spearmint and peppermint. The author mentioned moss; now for me, I think Spanish Moss. And I understand that all species of moss and fern will work in affinity with Unicorns. I still looked up Latin names for myself, to be safe in use and to make sure none were off-limits for use.

I want to thank Mx. Whitehurst personally for writing this book and working with Unicorn Magic. I am looking forward to taking my time and doing the Living and Breathing Part of this book, at my own pace. And working with my Unicorn Guides. Thank You, Mx. Tess Whitehurst.

Thank you to Llewelyn Worldwide for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Unicorn Magic’ by Tess Whitehurst in exchange for an honest review.

Its subtitle is: ‘Awaken to Mystical Energy & Embrace Your Personal Power’ and is meant as a practical workbook of “meditations, rituals, spells, and exercises that help you enter the realm of unicorns.”

I am rather fond of unicorns and so was interested in reading and reviewing this book, even though I suspected that it might be prove rather ‘sparkly’ and New Agey for my own taste. In this respect I was correct, though it still presents a number of useful exercises across a range of disciplines with its theme of attuning to unicorns.

Tess Whitehurst writes: “Unicorns, too, are fairies: they are among the most rare, magical, and sophisticated denizens of the fairy realm.” While this doesn’t equate to my own experience of unicorns I could see the aesthetic appeal.

The text contains a sprinkling of quotes about unicorns from various sources. Some pictures would have been nice though including them might have made the cost of production too high.

This was my first experience of Tess Whitehurst’s writing and I did feel at times as though I were being lectured to. It may be that she is writing in a more American style for self-help guides than I am accustomed to. While her writing is not quite on my personal wavelength, I am certain that this book will appeal to seekers who are drawn to unicorns.

Overall, she has a positive, upbeat attitude to her subject and is able to communicate with her readers well. The exercises and medications are presented in an accessible manner.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I didn't know what to expect from this book but I keep seeing it advertised and thought I would give it a try. Sadly, this book isn't for me. By the end of this first chapter I knew I wouldn't be continuing this book. The concept of unicorn magic just isn't relatable for me. I also do not understand how the exercises related to unicorns.

Originally I was interested in this book because I was looking for something that could help me learn how to calm down and stay positive. The concept of using Unicorn Magic to do this seemed fun and intriguing so I jumped on in with both feet.

In the first half of the book there were a couple (literally 2) good points that were made that could be related to everyday life.

This book lost me when it started talking about building a shrine to the unicorn. After that it just lost me. I just couldn't connect and relate to it after that and the book just became a little too out there for me.

I ended up finishing the book because I did get those first 2 good points and I didn't want to miss out on anything. Was it worth it? For me it wasn't as there was nothing new in the last half that really connected with me.

I would recommend Unicorn Magic to those who enjoy connecting with magical things in their everyday life and those who believe in the unicorn. If you're not really into magic and just want something different I don't know how much you'll actually enjoy this. However, like I said before it does have a bit of good advice so for me it was worth the read.

I love Tess Whitehurst. When I heard she was coming out with a unicorn magic book I was excited. In true Tess fashion the book is full of rituals and suggestions for ways to meditate. I can tell this is a book I’ll be referring back to often as I do with most of Tess’s books.

Whitehurst brings the ancient,, legendary unicorn energy to life in this exploration of meditations and rituals about these beloved creatures. Her book and the exquisite writing paints pictures in an alchemical way that makes the healing they transmit, real and entertaining.

Although the author's voice didn't really work for me, I love the concept of this book. It is positive and full of wonder and possibility, and I love that. Great exercises and ideas too.
I received a free digital copy via NetGalley, but the opinions expressed are my own.

Unicorn Magic is not something I've heard of until now. It's fun and interesting. It includes magical practices that you can stop and use while reading. A guide to meditation that helps to explore this kind of workings. Dreams, herbs and the use of crystals are all included. Unicorns have been around for a long time and many will find the fascination with using book book. I received this book from Net Galley and Llewellyn Publishing for a honest review.

There just wasn't enough substantial content to impress me. But girl good unicorn nostalgia for me through!

A book that I was more than interested in reading however for me it was a title that I sadly couldn't connect with in a meaningful way. Not that others won't but when I was a good way through, the practices didn't feel appropriate for me and an inner voice was telling me that it was sadly a title that I was just reading for knowledge in another area of the magic realm.

Tess' passion does show, it has exercises that will allow those who feel it appropriate to them to work through and develop an understanding but for me, sadly a miss.

This was fun and helpful to read and honestly calmed me down. It’s self care and mythicism combined with the power of Unicorns. I’ll be using a lot of these techniques in the future and will be recommending this book to friends.

Sorry for possible English mistakes.
This is an excellent book, it's seemingly simple esoteric methods are actually very well rooted into traditional magical procedures. Only here, you work mainly with unicorns. They will give their magic to your life, freedom, love...Insights you will gain if you do some of the rituals in this book will be of great value for modern life! And although at moments text sounds like a imperative orders about some methods with "do that or that" I am sure that intention behind that approach is good for beginners. The unicorns as very special magical beings will fit with great effect into your own system if it is needed. Very interesting book and I repeat it is very insightful about inner dynamics of magic.
