Sophia and her mom make weekly trips to the Farmers Market. There is a lot to look forward to when going to the market. Sophia has 3 friends she regularly meets up with there. Each of the children have different things they love about the market and they each have favorite fresh foods they love to eat. And besides, it’s just nice to enjoy the company of friends.

The illustrations are lovely, especially the colorful, bright, tasty looking vegetables and the crowds of people.

There is a bit of alliteration in the book which I always enjoy.

This is a great introduction for kids to encourage buying local and fresh foods. The book not only speaks of the fresh foods, but also offers a peak into the life and culture at the heart of Farmers Markets. It’s about community, neighbors and friends too.

Meet Me at the Farmers Market is a delightful picture book about a little girl named Sophia who loves going to the Farmers Market every week.   While there we meet her 3 friends who all love coming too.  She tells us about all the people she sees and musicians as well as all the vendors and what they sell at their tables.  We even get to hear Sophia's mom make an egg joke that the leads to the vendor replying himself with his own egg joke.  After telling us about the vegetables, Sophia also tells us about other things that are at the farmers market too, such as honey, lemonade, and popsicles.

The watercolor pictures have a gentle and calming quality to them.  The vegetables:  bell peppers, melons, carrots, squash are drawn nice and large enticing young eaters to try them.

I can definitely recommend this book for young readers as well as story tellers who are looking for something to encourage good eating habits as well as teach about where our food comes from, how it's grown, and all the different ways it gets to us.
