This is a sweet little book about clicker training chickens - simple instructions interspersed with the author's stories of her own chickens. I must admit I would want to have chickens in the house as the author described, so I guess I'll never make a serious chicken trainer LOL One think I really liked in this book was how the author was very specific with descriptions of how the chicken might react in different clicking situations. I would not get this book unless I already had chickens though because that very specificity works against generalizing the book to other animals.

Informative, but humorous at the same time. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was entertaining to say the very least.

This book was so detailed in its' instruction of clicker training! I have a small flock of backyard chickens and training them would be helpful. There are times, particularly in case of safety, where you would want to have chickens obey your commands quickly. I am new to the concept of clicker training, but this book incredibly details every step to get your chickens to obey commands. I will definitely try this out or maybe even have my 10 year-old try his hand at training. I would definitely recommend this book to chicken owners or dog owners for ways to train animals. Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

Okay, I have to admit that this really cracks me up. Training your chicken like a dog? I was raised around ranch animals and have many friends with chickens. I can honestly say that I believed the book. The ideas were sound and the steps are all there to help you.

This is a very insightful and interesting book. I really like the way the information is shared, it is very light and easy to read. Unfortunately the e-book ARC version I was provided with didn't have any of the photo's lined up in their borders. Most photo's were missing or a few pages late covering text I really wanted to read.
A great book for anyone looking to train chickens

We have some of the most tame chickens, so I am excited to use some of these techniques with them. The book had a lot of interesting information about chickens, as well as easy to understand instructions and steps.

A super cute book that's just been released on how to train your chicken. Loads of information not just on training your girls but on chickens in general.

A great book with lots of great tips for getting my chickens into their pen at night. My husband will have to find other entertainment than watching me chase the chickens!!!!

Click with Your Chick is a training and interaction manual for clicker training chickens (or other animals). Due out 13th August 2019 by Fox Chapel on their Companion House imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback format.

I've used some of the concepts the author describes in this very clearly written tutorial book to train our former pet rats. I don't know why it never occurred to me to use the same principles on our chickens. There are a lot of reasons to train one's chickens: bonding, interaction, the ability to get them to come when called (for example for veterinarian checks, medication, etc), and because it's a very fun thing to be able to do.

This book is clearly written and the author has an encouraging and positive voice in her writing. I liked that she not only elaborated on what worked for her, but discusses what didn't work and also some alternative methods. The introductory chapters cover the theoretical aspects of training, how chickens learn, and some background information about different poultry behaviors. There is quite a lot of emphasis properly placed on building trust and bonding.

The following chapters introduce the concepts involved in clicker training, preparing yourself and your chicken(s) for clicker training, and progresses through tricks and step by step tutorials for getting the desired results. Alternative tricks and refinements as well as extra information is provided in sidebars in the relevant sections.

Like most of Fox Chapel's book offerings, this book is beautifully typeset and formatted with very clear colorful photography that enhances and illustrates the tutorials perfectly. Kudos to the graphics department. The chapter headings and splash pages are full of really cute and colorful cartoon drawings of stylized chicken tracks, roosters, hens, and margin art.

This book does not include instruction about chicken keeping, medical or behavioral problems, building coops, feeding or management, or associated topics. The author states that those are exhaustively covered in other books on chicken husbandry and online. The author also has very definite philosophies on inter-species respect and what constitutes humane treatment. I found these opinions reasonable and attainable. Having grown up in a farming community on a smallholding myself, I believe that some readers will likely disagree with her assessments of humane.

To my knowledge this is the only book of its type currently in print in English. There are some chicken husbandry books which include a little on training with chickens; the converse is not available. This is a good and well thought out book.

Five stars.

We have several chickens, so when I saw this book, I was interested in seeing what it said. My main reason for reading it was that I wanted to learn more about chicken behavior to take better care of them, being able to train them was a bonus. Up till now, all the training I had thought about for our chickens was to make sure they stayed in the safety of the run. I figured in learning to train a chicken, I could better understand their behavior.

The book provides background on chicken behavior, social traits, and how to use a clicker and treats for training. Each step in the training process is outlined and then explained with the ways, places, and things you’ll need. The reasons for both the steps and details are given, so you have a firm understanding of what to do.

The instructions are practical and easy to follow. After reading the book, you’ll have a working knowledge of what to expect and how to handle training your chicken. I don’t know if I’ll be able to train all of our chickens, but I’m willing to try training at least some of them.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
