When I first became a Cecelia Ahern fan, I was hesitant to read P.S. I Love You because of the subject matter. However, something pushed me to check it out and then I loved it! (I didn't feel like the movie did it justice though). When I first heard about Postscript being published, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy! Was it worth the sixteen (seven for Holly) year wait? I can attest that it was!

The story was a good follow-up to P.S. I Love You. It was nice to revisit Holly's story and see what she has been up to, as well as check in with her family again. I'm glad Ciara got even more time in the story, since I really liked her in P.S. and even think she should have her own spin-off novel. I felt like Daniel should have been reintroduced somehow, as well. (Harry Connick Jr. played him in the movie.)

I liked the idea of the P.S. I Love You club and how Holly was resisting getting involved but kept getting pulled into the fray. I found myself caring about the people in the club, especially Ginika. However, I felt like one of them didn't get as much closure. I had a feeling of where one aspect of the story was going (and was right), but the rest of it was surprising.

This was a sweet story overall and it gives new insight about grief.

Movie casting suggestions, since I wasn't fond of the P.S. I Love You movie casting:
Holly: Hayley Atwell
Denise: Rebecca Hall
Ciara: Jessica De Gouw
Sharon: Jodie Whittaker
Gabriel: Michael Fassbender
Ginika: Aparna Brielle
Paul: Ben Whishaw
Bert: Ron Cephas Jones

Postscript is Cecelia Ahern's sequel to the international bestseller P.S. I Love You. When I heard the announcement about this book, I absolutely could not wait to read it, and it did not disappoint!

Seven years since Gerry's passing, Holly has moved forward and created a new life for herself. She has changed and grown in many ways, so when a group inspired by Gerry's letters comes seeking her help, she is forced to confront the past all over again. Will Holly find a way to let the past and the present co-exist, or will it all be too much for her?

Having recently endured my own devastating loss, and having re-read P.S. I Love You, I related to Holly now more than ever. I must say it was a pleasure to re-visit her story, and it provided me with an ounce of hope in my own life. The writing flowed seamlessly, holding my attention from the first page through to the last. The character development made me fall in love with Holly all over again, as well as some of the new characters introduced for this story. The plot is the perfect blend of love, heartbreak, hope, humour, family and friendship. For me, it also showed me that those we love stay with us and help guide us even after they are gone. While I am not usually a fan of sequels to beloved books, this one is an exception. In my opinion, the time gap between the release of the books, and the gap in the plots allowed for each book to maintain its authenticity and stand on their own, and yet continue an absolutely magical story.

This is definitely an emotional story that isn't necessarily for everyone. If you have read the first book, then I recommend checking this one out. In my opinion it's definitely worth your time. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but most importantly it will make you realize that each day is a gift. By no means it is necessary to read P.S. I Love You beforehand, but I strongly recommend doing so, as it definitely adds to this story.

Content Warnings: death, grief, divorce

Favourite Quote:
"It wasn't all for me as I'd believed at the time, it was his own way of trying to continue his life when life had exhausted all avenues, and death was moving closer to catch his fall. It was his way to saying not just to me but the world, remember me. Because ultimately, it's all anyone wants. Not to get lost, or left behind, not to be forgotten, to always be a part of the moments they know they'll miss. To leave their stamp. To be remembered."

The sequel to PS, I Love You
by Cecelia Ahern

I really enjoyed P S I love you so when I saw this sequel I knew I had to read it.

This is a review of a SAMPLE, not the entire book.

The book opens 7 years after Holly Kennedy's husband Gerry, died from cancer.

We see some changes in her life of course.

Holly gets involved with a P S I love you Club and helps some of the people.

Her life is still a bit of a mess and it's nice to see that she still feels much love for Gerry.

I laughed and cried even over this sample and I had to go get the book so I could read the entire story.

I have read and enjoyed so many books by this author and this sample was every bit as enjoyable as her other books.

Bring tissues and settle in if you read the entire book.

highly recommended 4***

Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publisher.

I have been in love with Cecilia Ahern books since i picked up a copy of PS I love you in a second hand book shop as a teenager.

I eagerly awaited the publication of Postscript to follow on the journey of Holly Kennedy and see if live had been kind to her.

This book got me in the feels and made me cry lots of ugly tears. It really was emotionally heart wrenching.

I loved reading about Holly and following along on her journey of grief and learning to heal.

Cecilia Ahern has such a way with words and none of her books fail to disappoint. Her writing style is skillful and unique. Her characters are always relatable and loveable.

I highly recommend this book! It will make you feel all of the feels.

So I haven't read Book 1 and I didn't watch the movie either. I've read that it doesn't matter as the author does a great job of catching you up at the beginning of Book 2 and so reading this as a standalone is fine.

However that also meant that I didn't have any emotional connection to Holly going in. And in all honesty, I thought she was a pretty terrible person. Until the end and while there was some redemption, it was too little too late for me.

So readers probably want to start with Book 1 so the emotional ties are strong and can carry you through the bad behavior of the MC in Book 2.

P.S. Bring Tissues

P.S I Love You was one of my favorite books so I was super excited to get this ARC.

The writing is skillful and seamless. The characters are well-drawn, genuine, and kind. And the plot is the perfect blend of hope, heart, humor, drama, and palpable emotion.

It’s been seven years since Holly Kennedy’s husband Gerry passed away from brain cancer and six years since she received his last letter. Holly thinks she has moved on with her life, she has a new partner Gabriel and she works at her sister Ciara’s vintage shop called Magpie.

A group of terminally ill people start a group called the PS, I Love You Club, they want Holly’s help, advice and she’s not sure if she can do it. It takes her back to the saddest, hardest time in her life and it’s still very difficult for her to deal with. Reluctantly she meets the small group, each person wants to leave a lasting legacy behind for their loved ones and Holly decides to help. Holly makes friends with the members of the group, each person is special, has a story, are loved and not always by their family.

Postscript is a fitting ending to Holly and Gerry's story, by helping the others, she not only brings peace to a group of terminally ill people, she makes a difference to people who are in the same heartbreaking situation she was in and it's the right time for her to move on. You will need a big box of tissues, Cecelia Ahern does it again and five stars from me.

I love this book, it is always great to return to old favorite characters! Well written and sweet story! I really enjoyed this!

Postscript picks up after PS, I love you, but about 6 years after the final letter. Holly is in a new relationship with a man named Gabriel, and she’s planning a move. Now, at the request of her sister, Ciara, she’s agreed to share her story about Gerry’s letters via a radio podcast discussing grief. Once aired, people want to know more about the contents of every letter and how Holly coped. Why? They want to write their own letters to their loved ones before they leave this earth. This conjures up the past which Holly has strived to put behind her, but could it be the exact thing she needs to truly heal?

You never know what to expect with sequels, but this book turned out to be so good. Once again, I fell in love with the writing beginning with the epilogue and pretty much devoured the book. It was wonderful reading about all the characters from the first book again and seeing how their lives have progressed. Not only that, new characters in the story make it incredibly emotional, and once again the author has done a beautiful job adding in the perfect mix of emotions here. The topics were thought-provoking as well, leaving me to contemplate what we can learn from others who’ve had to rebuild their lives after loss, and also the healing power that comes from the people around us.

Something fans of the first book will appreciate is that parts of the time Holly and Gerry spent together (previously unshared) are brought out in this book, continuing their story, even though Holly’s moved on. Holly reminisces on some of the plans they had before Gerry got sick and also what it was like letting him go in his final days. She’s constantly reflecting throughout the book and I loved that. This book is very much a continuation of her journey, but also shares the journeys of others who are preparing to leave their loved ones behind.

Postscript is perfectly set up to begin as a stand-alone for those who haven’t read the first book, although I would highly recommend starting with the first if you can, because there’s so much you’ll miss out on if you don’t.

From the very beginning, to the beautiful, surprising end, Postscript had me captivated. If you’re a PS, I love you fan, don’t miss this one!

I loved PS I Love You, when I read it many years ago and I remembered the story, more or less, just not the characters, so it took a little while to get reacquainted with Holly and her circle of friends and family.

It didn't take long for me to start crying. This story is heart-wrenching. So many lovely characters all dying and Holly trying to help them with their PS I love you letters. I was literally in tears several times while reading this book.

The story takes place 7 years after Holly's husband Gerry died and finds Holly at a new stage in her life, getting ready to move in with her boyfriend Gabriel when a dying woman asks for her help. At first Holly is not at all open to the idea of helping anyone else, she is still very emotional about it all, even 7 years after Gerry's death, but gradually she has a change of heart.

Seven years after the death of Gerry, Holly is convinced by her sister to talk about Gerry’s letters on a podcast she hosts. After the podcast goes out Holly is contacted by a group that has been inspired by her story. The P.S. I Love You Club, need Holly’s help to leave behind something after they pass away. Reluctantly Holly begins to help the group, discovering that she is not only helping them, she is slowly healing herself.

I really enjoyed revisiting Holly. This is such a beautiful book with an important message about how losing someone you love doesn’t mean you lose them forever, they will always remain in your heart.

I am always skeptical about sequels to books as i am often disappointed but oh how i was wrong. such an emotional and thought provoking read. It is beautifully written, highlighting the roar emotions that are still there years after. If anyone wants a book that will make you sit up and think, make you laugh and make you cry (alot) then this is most definitely one for the list. Superb writing and sequel.

A beautiful and heartbreaking sequel which had me both crying and laughing. We see the woman Holly has become and how her life continues to be influenced by Jerry, his passing and his letters. I enjoyed Holly's introspection and growth as she reflected on her understanding of Jerry and his motivation, and also of her own choices.

What a read! I really enjoy reading Cecelia Ahern and this book was no exception! I liked being back with the characters again although it brings the heartbreak back.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
